Winners of Rafflecoper & New Releases

Mia moves from the shadows to the spotlight when her matchmaking plans go awry in this contemporary M!X novel from the author of 30 Days of No Gossip.
Mia is used to feeling overlooked: her perfect older sister gets all the attention at home, and the popular clique at school are basically experts at ignoring her. So when it’s time for the annual Student Council chocolate rose sale, Mia is prepared to feel even worse. Because even though anyone can buy and send roses to their crushes and friends, the same (popular) people always end up with roses while everyone else gets left out.

Except a twist of fate puts Mia in charge of selling the roses this year—and that means things are going to change. With a little creativity, Mia makes sure the kids who usually leave empty-handed suddenly find themselves the object of someone’s affection. But her scheme starts to unravel when she realizes that being a secret matchmaker isn’t easy—and neither is being in the spotlight.

COVER REVEAL: LOOKING FOR LOVE

Fans asked, and Ashelyn Drake agreed. Mike from the Campus Crush companion series needed another story. The final installment of the Campus Crush series, Looking For Love, will release on March 17th. Because this is a companion series, the books stand on their own and do not need to be read in order.
Right now, you can read the other books in the series for FREE. Find them on Kindle and Nook as individual books
or all together in one boxset. (The boxset does not include Looking For Love.)

And now for the cover of Looking For Love!

Mike Hannigan is looking for love in all the wrong places. Maybe that’s because having his heart torn to shreds by who he thought was the perfect girl left some emotional scarring. But that’s about to change.

Summer Patterson isn’t like anyone Mike’s dated before, and he can’t help but be intrigued by her. Now if only he could keep his foot out of his mouth long enough to win her over. But when a secret involving Summer brings Mike’s past crashing back to the present, he’ll need some backup from his best friend and wingwoman, Mindy, to sort out the mess.

Will Mike find love before he leaves Timberland College for good?

Add it on Goodreads.

*This is a New Adult title and is not suitable for younger readers.*

Face/Mask by Author Gabriel Boutros

Blurb:Montreal in the year 2039. Like most major cities, the air is poisonous. On the other side of the planet, thewar on terror rages with no end in sight. A devastating attack on Canadian soil leads to the installation of a militaristic administration. Civil rights are curtailed and the justice system is rife with corruption. In the middle of this decaying world lives Allen Janus: husband, father, bureaucrat and backstabber. In a moment of petty vindictiveness he will betray the people who love him, setting the lives of everyone in his family on a tragic course.
Gabriel Boutros, author of The Guilty, brings you a story about how lies can entrap both the deceiver and the deceived.
Prologue  October 17, 2039:
When the time came Richard knew there would be a high probability of serious injury, not only to the Cons, but also to innocent by-standers. He’d told them he didn’t want anybody to get hurt, and that, despite his big talk a few days earlier, he believed they should remain a non-violent movement. But Suzanne had spoken to him quietly the night before in her kitchen. She held his hand and gazed into his eyes as she told him how proud she’d been when he’d spoken up at the last meeting. She was glad he understood that some pain was necessary, or else people wouldn’t react.“The sheep,” she said, “will keep walking down the chute unless something scares them. Only then will they open their eyes and see where they’re headed.”Richard didn’t respond. He knew that even scared sheep couldn’t stop themselves from going to slaughter, but he didn’t want to contradict her. She saw his hesitation and asked him if he was afraid, with a look that told him she would only accept one answer.“Of course not,” he lied, looking down to avoid her searching gaze. “I just want to make sure I’m doing the right thing.”“What else can we do, Richard? The public is so apathetic they can’t be shaken out of their torpor with clever slogans and colourful signs.” She brushed the hair out of his eyes and bent her head to look into his face.“Without some pain they’ll never see that the administration is run by militarists and elite industrialists who are happily enriching themselves while families are poisoned by the very air and water around them.”Now Richard stood inside the library’s entrance, remembering her words, and smelling her perfume like she was still holding his hand.  He watched as his fellow students trudged in and out of the building.  Most carried small waist-packs containing their study discs and some nutri-snacks under their coats. He worried that somebody would wonder why his pack looked bulkier than everybody else’s. Surely nobody would expect him to be carrying an actual textbook around. But nobody gave him a second look.In the street, in front of the RCMP station that was next door to the library, several patrol cars were parked. He watched as two Cons, their air-masks hanging from their belts, chatted amiably while they leaned against their cruisers. They were happy about something: one of them laughing out loud while squeezing his colleague’s arm, before they both strolled into the station.Richard wanted to imagine that they were laughing about an arrest they’d made, maybe some innocent and harmless old man, but he couldn’t. It was easier to hate a faceless administration than it was two buddies sharing a laugh. Whatever passion he’d felt in Suzanne’s apartment had dissipated. This would have been easier for him if his heart was still full of anger, but there was no turning back.He looked at the antique digital clock on the library wall: it was 9:45 AM. They’d told him to plant the bomb at 10 o’clock, five minutes before the planned detonation, to minimize the risk of discovery. But his heart was beating too rapidly, and he could feel the sweat pouring down his face. He was sure he’d faint if he had to wait much longer.Nobody’s going to find it anyway, he told himself, as he placed the waist-pack behind a bench near an exterior wall. The detonation was set to expand outward, toward the police detachment, and not inward where the students were crowded into a tight space. Still, the chances of some of them being seriously injured, maybe even dying, were fairly high.  He repeated to himself some of Suzanne’s arguments that he’d memorized as a mantra: All shortages are tools of the administration; hungry people pay more for food; there’s always someone else to blame. He took a deep breath and told himself that it had to be done. After this act of defiance the administration would have to take them seriously. And Suzanne would know that he was a real man. He just hoped that nobody he knew would get hurt.

Happy Release Day to Me!!

Happy Release Day to Me! Now Available!
Blurb:
Sixteen-year-old Leocadia arrives home from school to find her mom’s bloody body. Unaware that the killer still lingers, she rushes to her mother’s side, only to be grabbed from behind and then everything fades to black.
After a year of retrograde amnesia and battling personal demons, Leo’s dreams are getting worse—she’s starting to remember. More bodies are discovered and they seem to be oddly linked to her mom’s unsolved homicide.
When Leo allows her friend, Henry to drag her into the haunted Lucien Mansion, misty ghosts appear, ghosts that just might lead to her mother’s murderer.
Will Leo let her memories threaten her into a relapse or, will she fight to find her mother’s killer – only to become his next victim?
Excerpt:Moonlight played tricks with my eyes as we circumvented gravestones like an obstacle course, and pluming fog licked our legs as misty ghosts danced on marbleized stones. My breath shuddered as Henry bypassed me, leading the way. “Hurry—” he whispered and nudged my shoulder.I picked up the pace and cranked my head to the left. Dark moving shapes appeared in the distance and moaning floated past my ears, probably the wind or just my imagination? Goose flesh pebbled my skin as I stumbled over an urn. Henry lugged me up urging me on. “What are we running from?” I gasped quietly so not to wake the dead.  “Them—over there.” Henry jerked his chin, the lenses of his glasses captured raining moonbeams. “I think it’s cops.” His hand reached back, palm up. I latched hold. “Why would police be patrolling the cemetery?” We whipped around a mammoth tombstone, a squared foundation for a glorious angel. He halted and threw me unceremoniously to solid concrete. My heartbeat migrated up my esophagus. Henry covered my mouth with his hand. “Sh-h...don’t breathe so loud.” My pumping lungs slowed as I stabilized my swallows of air. Henry squashed his body into mine. A tad too close. His speedy heartbeat harmonizing with my own while cold leached into my back. I cringed at the discomfort of my head pressed between his chest and the stone.

Happy Release Day to my Friend and Awesome Author Julie Flanders! I love her cover!
Book Blurb:
The midnight sun bakes Fairbanks, Alaska as residents gather for the annual summer solstice baseball game. Amidst the revelry and raucous shouts of “Play ball,” a spark alights and a jogger bursts into flames. Detective Danny Fitzpatrick, still reeling from his near death at the hands of vampire Aleksei Nechayev, watches in horror as the man burns alive.
Someone is burning Fairbanks and its residents and leaving nothing but smoldering embers behind. As the city sweats under a record-breaking heatwave and unexplained fires claim more victims, Danny and his colleagues struggle to find an arsonist who can conjure fire out of thin air.
To Danny’s horror, the only one who may be able to help him stop the arsonist is his nemesis Nechayev. Will the vampire help in the hunt for a witch?

An Excerpt of Polar Day:
“Detective, there’s a man on the phone who said he wants to speak with you about the fire case. He wouldn’t give his name but asked for you specifically.”
Danny rolled his eyes. Some nutcase, no doubt.
“Go ahead and transfer him,” he said.
Danny heard the click of the call coming to his line.
“This is Detective Fitzpatrick,” he said, propping the phone between his shoulder and his ear and he typed on his keyboard to bring up more surveillance footage.
“Hello, Detective.”
Danny’s fingers froze on his keyboard. He felt a chill wash over his body despite the boiling hot temperature in the office. He would never forget that voice. Aleksei Nechayev.
“Hello? Detective Fitzpatrick?”
Danny took the phone from his shoulder and sat up straight in his chair.
“What do you want?” he asked.
“I suppose I shouldn’t have expected a friendly greeting.”
Danny remained silent and noticed Tessa looking at him with a questioning expression on her face. He waved a hand as if to suggest the call was nothing and turned his back to his partner, relieved when he heard her get up from her chair and walk away from him. Still, he kept his voice low.
“I asked what you wanted. Why are you calling here?”
“I’ve just read about your new case that has Fairbanks buzzing. Or burning would be more accurate, wouldn’t it?”
“And?”
“And I wanted to hear more about it. Who do you think is behind it? How are they doing it? Oh wait, you don’t know the answer to that question, do you?”
“I’m hanging up. Don’t call here again.”
“Oh, come on. Don’t you even want to know how I’m doing? Where I am?”
Danny paused and looked at the caller ID on his phone. The number had been blocked. “You’re not here in Alaska, are you?”
“In the summer, are you kidding? With that sun I’d be burning up just like your victims. No, don’t worry; I’m far away from you on the other side of the world. I’m in Sydney, Australia to be exact. The Southern hemisphere is much healthier for me this time of year.”
“Okay. So I’ll ask you again. What do you want?”
“You got my postcard from St. Petersburg, didn’t you?”
“I did. And I sent an anonymous tip to the police that I had reason to suspect one of the most wanted murderers in the world was there in their city.”
“Right, of course you did. And I imagine you’ll be notifying the Sydney authorities as well. But before you do that, you might want to give it some thought. And you might want to look up an incident that happened to several St. Petersburg officers not long after you made your report. It was a terrible thing, really. A bloody mess. But Katya and I had a ball.”
“You son of a bitch.”
“I could say the same about you. I tried to send you a friendly greeting and you set the police on me.”
“I don’t have time for this. I’m working.”
“I know. That’s why I called. I want to talk about the case you’re working on. What do you think about it? Do you think a monster is behind it? A literal one, I mean.”
“You mean one like you?”
“Well, no. Trust me; my kind wouldn’t be setting fires. We hate them even more than you do.”
“So I’ve heard. Wish I’d known that when I went to Coldfoot.”
“I guess you should have done better research. Luckily for me you didn’t.”

#IWSG

This is a wonderful Group where Writer's Support each other. Thanks to Alex J. Cavanaugh and the many people or minions that help with this endeavor. This month, Alex's awesome co-hosts are Gwen GardnerDolorah, Sarah Foster, and M. Pax!
Press Here to add your name to the list.

In the beginning of the month I was totally insecure. My WIP had been hovering around for months. So close to the end, yet, my characters decided not to speak to me. Again, that doubt of being a writer surfaced. Again, I thought I fried my brain and my imagination had dried up. No more stories. Again, thoughts of quitting.

Determined, I saddled up to the computer, dug my heels in. And little by little words were composed. I completed my goal of finishing the ms by the end of January. Needless to say, it's the first draft. Many hair pulling months of editing lie ahead.

My 4th book, Don't Forget to Breathe will be released this Saturday, February 7th. It's a new genre for me. A YA haunting murder mystery. And the doubts are beginning to churn, along with my stomach.

Do You Have Insecurities?

Prah & Constantine Review #yalit #paranormal #romance

We're Baaack!!! It's time for the Prah & Constantine February Review.

Together we chose Moonless by Crystal Collier

Blurb:

MOONLESS is Jayne Eyre meets Supernatural!

In the English society of 1768 where women are bred to marry, unattractive Alexia, just sixteen, believes she will end up alone. But on the county doorstep of a neighbor’s estate, she meets a man straight out of her nightmares, one whose blue eyes threaten to consume her whole world—especially later when she discovers him standing over her murdered host in the middle of the night.

Among the many things to change for her that evening are: her physical appearance—from ghastly to breathtaking, an epidemic of night terrors predicting the future, and the blue-eyed man’s unexpected infusion into her life. Not only do his appearances precede tragedies, but they’re echoed by the arrival of ravenous, black-robed wraiths on moonless nights.

Unable to decide whether he is one of these monsters or protecting her from them, she uncovers what her father has been concealing: truths about her own identity, about the blue-eyed man, and about love. After an attack close to home, Alexia realizes she cannot keep one foot in her old life and one in this new world. To protect her family she must either be sold into a loveless marriage, or escape with the man of her dreams and risk becoming one of the Soulless.

Cathrina's Review:

Ms. Collier is a talented and gifted writer. Toward the end of the book, she definitely had me swiping the pages pretty darn fast.

I must admit, in the beginning I was slightly confused of what was transpiring. And the main character Alexia seemed wimpy, however, she did grow a backbone which was excellent. As I read further and learned the premise of the supernatural theme, I was quickly on board.

The mysterious blue-eyed man had me drooling a little, and the fervent love scenes between Kiren and Alexia were sweet.

Ms. Collier penned a thrilling historical romance and whetted my appetite with a genre I also love, the supernatural. I would recommend Moonless to readers.

Now Let's head over to Nana Prah's Review of Moonless.
