A Buffalo Wanders Into Frame–Botswana

Since this was my first time attempting wildlife photography (instead of landscape), the most important information about how I took this photo was patience. It isn’t easy to recompose a shot while animals are moving–and this was a split second moment. I could see the buffalo all drinking from the water, and since I try to shoot with both eyes open, I could see that the buffalo in the foreground was ambling his way into my photo. I had to wait for him to walk into frame (since I was stuck in a vehicle) and pray the other buffalo didn’t satiate their thirst before I hit the shutter.

I used a Canon Rebel T3i (a great entry level DSLR) with my favorite all-around lens–my Tamron 18-270mm. I loved using it because I didn’t have to change my lens for long distance photos. I had my manual settings set to a fast shutter speed and 3.5 aperture to get a nice blurry background. For wildlife photography, I recommend keeping your settings on continuous shooting.

For editing, I used Photoshop Elements 14. I did minimal editing on this shot, just a slight touch up in levels to make sure the lighting was at its best, but in this case the magic was in the subject, not the editing. Even though I love elephants and giraffes, this ended up being one of my favorite photos of the trip!

Connect the Bots! Robots and Artificial Intelligence in Hotels

EnRoute Magazine Air Canada May 2019 Lisa Niver's story Connect the Bots!Thank you to enRoute Magazine and Air Canada
for publishing my story:
Connect the Bots! Robot Travail!”

FIRST SPOTTED:

At The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, Rose, the scintillating artificial intelligence chat bot can lead you on a graffiti art tour of the property by text message. She will educate you about the artists, answer questions about events and entertainment as well as share her knowledge about “secret pizza.”

WHY:

Erica Johnson, Director of Communications at Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas explains: “Waldorf Astoria and Hilton will always be a people-first industry.  We believe advances in robotics and artificial intelligence can be used to complement the award-wining service provided by our Team Members. Our robot, Pepper, enhances the guest experience by providing information on hotel features and amenities.” She can dance, pose for a selfie and tell a story.

Where ELSE:

At Waldorf Astoria in Beverly Hills, use Alexa voice commands to operate the shades, lights and order towels. Robots like H2M2 at Monville Montreal and Fetch and Jett at Vdara in Vegas created by Savioke in California can make room deliveries. Ask H2M2, the first hotel robot in Canada, to bring two full meals. Fetch’s most common delivery is coffee and can carry four hot cups at once as well as toothpaste, aspirin and snacks.

The dwellings of Arunachal Pradesh, India

I clicked this photo with my DSLR 5100 with 18-55 lens. It’s an Apatani village in Ziro Valley, Arunachal Pradesh, North east India. I love this photo because I really found this village unique, and as I was casually strolling through the village with a local guide, I happened to capture this frame. I thought instead of taking a usual long shot of the huts, let me capture the huts through a fencing, which I think made it more attractive and interesting. This shot hardly required any post-editing. I did use a bit of Photoshop (to add more sharpness), though.

I love diving at Sandals Montego Bay! We saw green moray eels, spotted drum, flounder, porcupine fish and so much more. I loved my dive buddies and all the gear. The dive standards are very high at Sandals Resorts. The boat was in top condition and the dive masters and captain were all very professional and helpful. I highly recommend diving at Sandals! When are you meeting me underwater?

What can you do at Sandals Montego Bay?

I loved my hot stone massage at Red Lane Spa!

Weddings are included! The bridal party has the most beautiful area to get ready together with a mirror that has indoor, outdoor and night time settings. The spa can come to you right next the chapel or you can get married on the beach!

There is an over the water wedding chapel and an over the water bar called Latitudes!

You can participate in Aquatic fitness classes or go scuba diving every day which was my favorite thing at Sandals Montego Bay!

Have you always wanted to learn to Scuba dive? Try discover scuba diving or take a full PADI certification class.

You can stay at one and play at three! Enjoy 21 restaurants at Sandals Montego Bay, Sandals Royal Caribbean and The Inn at Sandals. There is a complementary shuttle between the properties.

I loved the Jerk Shack with Jamaican jerk chicken.

There are so many rooms with views of the sea or you can stay in a swim-up suite like I did right at the edge of the pool.

At Sandals Royal Caribbean, I loved the over the water bungalows! They look like the ones from Bora Bora in French Polynesia but they are the first ever over the water bungalows in the Caribbean! It is a vacation paradise. They are in the shape of a heart and right near the Thai restaurant! YUM!

Back at Sandals Montego Bay, we had a sushi demo and spoke with the chefs at SOY! It is 5 star global gourmet where you can savour the world and it is all-inclusive!

I also enjoyed having Dino’s pizza on the patio of my swim up suite with my feet in the water.

We went to Butch’s for dinner which is a brand new steak and seafood restaurant at Sandals Montego Bay. My first Sandals Resorts experience has been fantastic! I wonder which property I will see NEXT!?!?
