Saving Mr. Banks

It's what we storytellers do...restore order with imagination ~ from the movie Saving Mr. Banks
It's what we do! Restore order with imagination...
I saw the movie Saving Mr. Banks and absolutely loved it! Not only was it a great story about the making of the 1964 movie Mary Poppins, but it was a great study in plot and character development. And the quote listed here comes from Walt Disney's last ditch effort to persuade P.L. Travers into signing the rights for the movie over to him.
No matter what your dream journey, I think that's what we dreamers do, we restore order with imagination. That order is different for each of us. For writers, we restore order in the fictional and parallel universes we create. If you're in sales, you restore order in your customer's lives by offering your products or services to them.
Yes, that's what dreamers do, restore order with imagination.
What order are you restoring this week?

The Job That Takes the Longest to Finish

It's a job that's never started that takes the longest to finish ~ JRR Tolkien
How is your New Year going? Mine hasn't started with the gust of the last two years, but it's started. I've been dealing with being sick since the Saturday before Christmas and still have the lingering cough. If there's anything I've learned in the last few years, and last few months, is to listen to my body and take it easy when I'm not feeling well.
But having my routines ready to go and taking notes while I'm laying on the couch sick has me ready to go once again today. I'm not exercising yet, but I'll exercise my mind and get some writing done this morning.
Once your routines are established, it's easier to get back to them. If you look back on past blog posts, I'm sure I'll have written about how I just worked through the cough and cold. I needed to do that then, but now I can rest and get back into routines.
Besides a little writing and movie early this afternoon, that's it for us today. Just rest and try to get over this illness.
Are you working on New Year's Resolutions this weekend?

What a Banner Year!

If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world ~ JRR Tolkien
What a banner year! I sold and published my first two manuscripts and started a third! My goal was to get one published and write a third manuscript, so I'd say I did pretty good.
A Place to Call Their Own was named one of their Best Historicals by The Novel Approach Reviews. See the story here:
http://thenovelapproachreviews.com/2013/12/31/2013-the-year-in-reviews/
What about next year? My big, fat goal is to finish the manuscript I've started and write two more first drafts before the year is done. I do hope to publish two of the three as well.
If you follow me, you know I take New Year's Resolutions very seriously. Now by putting it out there, it helps me be more accountable to myself as well.
What are your goals for the New Year?

Year in Review

Did you ever notice that life seems to follow certain patterns? Like I noticed that every year around this time, I hear Christmas music ~ Tom Sims
WOW...that's all I can say! 2013 has been the best to me than any year in a long time. I published two novels, got a promotion at work, my partner is back to work in a job that he does enjoy, and we just had the best holiday with my family in a long time. Me and my two brothers were all home for Christmas, the first time in seven years (we think).
Now, I won't deny that my routines that helped me get two novels written have been torn to pieces as I entered unchartered territory in my writing career. Added to writing was self-editing, participation in a critique group, navigating the actual process of getting a novel published, marketing said novels...Add to that changes in my own work schedule and duties and then Thomas's change in work and transportation schedules.
But above all, having the routines in place kept me going when the dust settled and I sat down to work. I didn't always get everything done that I wanted (NaNoWriMo, Blogging in November and December), but I always had the routines to fall back on.
Over the next week I'll be evaluating our new schedules, routines, goals, and ideas and formulate a plan for 2014. I'll be sharing that next week. One thing is for sure, I'll be back to posting four times a week!
Have a great day! It's Boxing Day in the UK and I like to go shopping as well. We haven't decided if we're going out or not, we'll see how we feel after work.
