When the War Between the States ended in 1865 many Americans emerged from the turmoil energized by their possibilities for the future. Frank Greerson and Gregory Young were no different. After battling southern rebels and preserving the Union, the two men set out to battle the Kansas Prairie and build a life together. Frank yearned for his own farm, away from his family—even at the risk of alienating them. Gregory, an only child, returned home to claim his inheritance to help finance their adventure out west.
Between the difficult work of establishing a farm on the unforgiving Kansas prairie, and the additional obstacles provided by the weather, Native Americans and wild animals, will their love and loyalty be enough to sustain them through the hardships?

Pure Transparent Freedom

I wish that every human life might be pure transparent freedom ~ Simone De Beauvoir
Have you ever experienced pure transparent freedom? I feel it when I am in the throws of writing. I love the feeling I get when the creative juices are flowing and the words just pour out of my fingers, from the keyboard, onto my screen.
What makes you feel that freedom? Are you pursuing that this year? If not, I hope so. Remember, I've blogged about this before, New Year's Resolutions are goals for the year, not just January. You don't have to start this month or next and can still reach your goals. I didn't quit smoking until April the year I did that and it was May before I went back to school to finish my bachelor's degree.
Even if you don't start this month, you can get going on the passion that makes you feel pure transparent freedom this year.
Did you set any New Year's Resolutions or goals?

Exciting New Chapters

Although it may be terrifying to get out of your comfort zone, it's very exciting to start a new chapter in your life ~ Katie Couric
For the first time in twenty-two months I am out of my comfort zone. I do not have completed manuscript that is ready for submission. It's just the way 2013 went, I published the two manuscripts I had completed and didn't do a good job of continuing to write anything new.
Then three different ideas started popping into my head, so I got a bit distracted. Then I tried to write one draft in November for NaNoWriMo (I keep telling you to remind me I can't do that, but I still see myself trying next November.)
So anyway, here I am, working on three different manuscripts this year and hoping to get two of them published. This "self-deadline" is definitely different than the first two novels, but it is exciting. Can I do it? Absolutely!
What exciting chapters are starting in your life this year?
