Dare I Call It Murder?: 9 Weeks on Amazon Best-Seller Lists
A number of readers and fellow authors have asked me: “How’s your book doing?” I.e., how is it selling?
Answer: Remarkably well, for which I am grateful. The support and response from readers has been more than I could hope for. The book has now been on Amazon best-seller lists for nine weeks in two categories: Memoir and True Crime.

Book News, Seattle Recap, River of Remembrance, Bookstore Events
Summary of the Book Update posted today on the Dare I Call It Murder? website:
Incredible: The San Diego Union-Tribune features me and my book on the front page of today’s newspaper: “The lasting pain of murder’s ‘living victims’.” (Right next to the Pope, no less.)
John Wilkens wrote a great piece. I could not have asked for anything more. I especially like the fact that he focused on violent loss rather than my parents’ deaths and the criminal investigation.
The La Jolla Light also published a...

Society’s Challenge: Survivors of Violent Loss
Survivors of violent loss gathering in the next few days to recognize the National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims have added even more names to their ever-growing list. That list now includes the names of those gunned down on Monday at the Washington Navy Yard.
This horrific incident is yet another glaring reminder that death not only changes forever the lives of family members and close friends, but the impact and emotional trauma are even greater when the death results from violence,...

Book Update: ‘Dare I Call It Murder?’ – News, Bookstores, Radio
Many of you have asked about the book and how it’s doing as it approaches the second monthiversary.
It has been in the news again, bookstore events are scheduled for next two weeks and two radio interviews are on tap.
To quote my pal Ian Law, everything is “just swell” and going amazingly well.
Amazing, in part, thanks to Amazon, which—my previous misgivings notwithstanding—has manifested itself as marketing genius electronified. The book remains a best-seller in multiple categories.
After droppi...

Thank you, Barnes & Noble Booksellers
Thank you, Barnes & Noble.
Yesterday, I stopped by the Barnes & Noble Booksellers’ Encinitas store in north San Diego County where I will be doing a book signing forDare I Call It Murder?: A Memoir of Violent Loss on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2-4 p.m.
I found my book already on display on the New Non-Fiction table.
It’s also on the shelf in the Biography section.
It’s nice to see the big chain supporting independent authors and publishers.
If you’ve never been to this store, you should check it out. Big...

An "Attaboy" from Phyllis Diller
Reblogged from Phyllis Diller and wine:
As I was thinking about Phyllis Diller -- today is the one year anniversary of her death -- something funny occurred to me. No, not one of her jokes, I mean something odd about working for her.
I learned about it one day shortly after soon after I went to work for her. I did something unexpected and Karen -- Phyllis's wardrobe mistress -- said, "that's worth an attaboy." "Huh?" "An attaboy." "What are you talking about?" I asked with just a hint of exasp...

Kirkus Book Review: Dare I Call It Murder?
The Kirkus Review of my book came out today . . .
A chilling memoir of a family tragedy and its painful aftermath.... This book is an act of witness, and the author’s motivation is palpable throughout: “I have a right to know. Our family has a right to know. Society has a right to know.”... A powerful testament to a son’s unyielding determination to tell his parents’ story.
