Feeling good….

Over the course of my recovery from Complex PTSD I have looked for resources that would let me take steps for my own healing.  Some programs are better than others or have their best use at specific stages of recovery.  FeelGoodIQ helped me at the later stages of my program, pushing me beyond the point that I felt okay to a place where I felt incredibly well. It wasn’t directed at Complex PTSD itself, but certainly helped with undoing many of its effects on my motivation, self-worth and ability to face the everyday challenges that were so difficult during my battle with CPTSD.

The ability to maintain a constant positive disposition can ensure that no matter how big life’s challenges get, you will always be strong, prepared and even excited to face them. But this is easier said than done. Life’s not just hard, it’s exceptionally hard, and a positive mindset is heavily challenged on a daily basis. With stress, frustration, conflict and hardship all in our way, the path to true satisfaction is cloudy. But if we can learn to tackle life’s challenges head on, we can learn to live life full on.

It’s worth your time to check it out.

Book 3: Health Impacts of Complex PTSD release on October 5th

Book 3 of the Stoning Series will be released on October 5th. This edition addresses the health impacts of Complex PTSD and looks at nutritional and chemical influences on anxiety, depression, cognition and mood. Along with the other books in the series, it will be available in digital and print format.

Book 1 explains how trauma experienced in childhood can prime a person for development of Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder later in life. I found the study of developmental psychology extremely helpful for understanding the deeper effects of my CPTSD. Reading about it helped me in surprising ways. My work has led me to look at childhood and its foundation for development of emotional, relational, self-regulatory and self-image imprints into adulthood in a clearer, less emotional way. It helped me detach a bit from experiencing my pain, to understanding it.

Book 2: Symptoms and Progression of Complex PTSD

Complex PTSD takes a progressive pathology, with symptoms worsening over successive traumatic experiences or during periods of elevated stress. Complex PTSD has its foundation in childhood trauma, impacting our development and undermining our mental and physical health for a lifetime. We tend to ignore the lifelong effects of trauma, with the misconception that children are inherently resilient. Those of us who experienced trauma in childhood know the truth of it. We are changed and shaped by those traumas and the response of others in supporting us through them. As adults, we are not separate from who we were or what we experienced as children. We remember it, if we are battling Complex PTSD, we are reliving it.

Print versions of Stoning Demons now only $3.99

Good news!

I have found a way to reduce the cost of the print versions of the books from $5.99 to $3.99, just $1.00 more than the ebook versions.  I hope that this will make the materials more available to those interested in having a real book in their hands.  It means that the books will not be available through all channels, but Amazon and CreateSpace will carry them.

Once all 6 books are completed I will consolidate them into one print book, sometime in early 2015.

Book 1 in print

Book 2 in print

Article: Changes in DNA Methylation Linked to Traumatic Memories and PTSD

This is an excellent article by James Fink from his blog, Fink Scientifically on the effects of trauma on DNA.

Stoning Demons Books 1 and 2 now available in print!

Anyone who has been waiting for a print copy of the Stoning Demons books will be able to purchase them from CreateSpace (Amazon) in print-on-demand format.  I will be working on a higher quality format later, but the early editions in paperback are available if you are looking for a copy.  The printed copies are more costly than the ebooks, but still a reasonable price at $5.99 each.

A coupon for a free download of the ebook is printed inside each book, so you can have access to digital copies as well.

Review of Book 1: Childhood Trauma is a Primer for Complex PTSD

Review by: anonymous on June 22, 2014 : 5 stars

This book offers an overview of the impact of childhood trauma and the long term fall out of that. It’s got a strong grounding in the authors own trauma, which makes it super relatable to, ie, it’s not written by a theory “expert” but is crafted from a personal desire to need and want to understand more and find paths to healing. It shares the drawing together of the research Callis has done to better understand herself. I like her systematic approach and ways of defining trauma in order to identify gaps in development which she used as starting points in her own healing. There is a lot of useful information for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of CPTSD and it’s inspiring in it’s hopefulness. I would recommend it!

I am still hoping to round out donations for the book series campaign. I am a few hundred short of my budget for hiring an editor to improve the six books. Beyond that I hope to print a few hundred copies of the final set.

Even small donations help me get there. All can be done through Paypal or card.  Thank you so much for all the support and encouragement!

Kiddo – the inner child

I’m playing around with a comic strip where the main character is the inner child giving her perspective on Complex PTSD.  It’s a little simple at the moment, but maybe it’s something I’ll keep doing.

It feels a bit creative and fun anyway, so that’s a plus.  I’ll probably throw some of the strips together into the Stoning Demons series and maybe put together a simple comic book later on.  We’ll see.  For now, it’s just another fun bit of therapy.

Happy to know what you think.
