A truer graphic hath never been seen

I so very much believe this. I mean, why couldn’t a young lady wish to play with Transformers™, you a young man to play with Barbie™?

Why does the former have to mean she’s a “tom boy” or the little boy a … does anyone say ‘sissy’ anymore?

A toy is a toy. If it makes the child happy, who cares what colour it is or what character it is? Does it matter the child’s age or sex if they find joy in a dolly, or if they find a little pleasure in a Nerf™ gun?

Frankly the only time a toy ought to care abo...

Happy Christmas …

Happy holidays. I don’t care what you celebrate, I hope it’s very merry.

In celebration of Christmas, the winter solstice, the new year, and anything else that might be worth celebrating between the 20th of December, and the 1st of January I’ve madeLove or Lustonly 99¢ (US — 45p UK, and upwards of 50 other values around the world).

Yes, I mean the eBook. As I’ve said before, I can’t make the print edition much cheaper or what I make would actually be a negative number (yes, as in I’d actually o...

An observation about publicists

Reblogged from Indie Fic:

As this is an indie reviews blog, I think it is within my responsibility to point out a trend to my fellow broke, struggling authors out there: Publicists, probably aren't worth what you're paying them.

Whatever do you mean!?

I mean out of all the improper submissions to this review site a good 90% of them are made by publicists…

… I'm glad I'm not too shy to be my own publicist.

5 more stars!

For those suspicious I’ve made this up, you can see it for yourself at Amazon here and here.

It really is lovely to see things like this. It’s very heartening to see when the characters evoke something within the reader like this.

I may have mentioned the one from October already — I suddenly can’t recall. I know I’d meant to, so I’m mentioning it now to be sure.

The newest one is something that is very uplifting to an author. Just as with my three star review, I’m very proud of this one — not b...

It's December 6, and casual misogyny abounds

Reblogged from niftynotcool:

Click to visit the original post

This morning Canadians on Facebook and Twitter have been calling on us to remember the 14 female engineering students whose lives were taken by a gunman on December 6, 1989, and to pledge that violence against women will stop.

I was particularly taken with this address made by NDP MP Megan Leslie in 2008 and shared on Twitter today. Leslie said, "We live in a culture of casual misogyny...And we don’t do enough to fight it."

A momentary bout of the politicals

U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont

U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Those who follow my twitterwill have noticed that I shared a survey regarding Bernie Sanders‘ notion of running for the US presidency. That survey, for those interested, can be found here: http://bit.ly/18cujsk

This is one point where I feel Imust voice my opinion.

Senator Sanders represents certain ideals that this country is long overdue for.

He represents the notions of equality under the law: I don’t care if you are gay or strai...

Vulgarity, sex, and other offensive things

As always, my opinion regarding asking “should I …” when writing your story should always be answered with “yes, absolutely, if you want to”. But as always there can be room to discuss the impact, and nuances of that answer.

Graphics violence, explicit sex, vulgar language, lewd behaviour … should these be in our fiction?

The answer to that isn’t so clear cut, honestly. Then again, perhaps it is. Tough decision. On one hand, they’re a part of our reality, so of course they should be there for r...

And the month comes to a close

So ends another November, and with it another National Novel Writing Month.

Those who participated, I hope the experience went well for you. You’ve now got pages of text — or one hopes as much, at least.

Just because the month is over, doesn’t mean you’re done. Is the novel finished? Excellent! Time to get hard at work proofreading and editing. Before you ever hand it to another, sit down and read it with your read pen in hand and fix it. Make it say what it ought to say. You got the idea on th...

How embarrassing

Ever do something, then look back over it later and go “what in was Ithinking?!

Yeah, I had one of those moments.

Maybe you recall the end of this summer where I did myNow & ForeverA-B-Cs series? If not, I think I might be grateful …

By and large it’s fine. Not always exceptionally well written, but itwas just a bit of fun, so who cares? Still, it was meant to be accurate, and that … not always so much. More than not, if I want to be honest with myself, but still enough to bother me...
