My deepest and most humble thanks to every single person who ever did artwork, craft or cosplay for me. You are amazing and have done more for my books than you could possibly imagine. Thank you! ❤️

Odin’s Child: «Most important YA book of the decade»

Christmas tree ornaments

The ultimate Christmas present came from Periskop magazine, and prominent librarian, Stig Elvis Furset from Norway, who just awarded Odin’s Child ‘Most important YA book of the decade’. (I know, I choked on my cocoa)

«I have no doubt that Odin’s Child is the debut of the decade, and The Raven Rings raised Norwegian fantasy to an international level. To write fantasy, you have to know how to build worlds. Pettersen mastered that art, and her characters remained etched into memory after reading. In addition, she has an impact on young readers that we have to return to Rowling’s heydays to match,» Stig Elvis says to Periskop.

Obviously, I react like any rational person would, by turning his face into ornaments for my Christmas tree, which I intend to admire while playing Elvis and sipping Negroni. Hot damn! Merry Christmas everyone ❤️

The land of... Urk?

Map in Russian edition

You know that Monty Python movie, where someone carved the location of the grail on the wall, but died before they could finish? «In the Castle of Aaaarrgh ...» I think that happened to the map maker in my Russian copy of Odin’s Child. It arrived in the mail today, and... Welcome to the land of... Urk? Gorgeous edition, though! Very happy and proud

Launching in Russia

190930_russland.jpg

I can’t friggin believe it, but The Raven Rings is launching in Russia next week! In Frankfurt, I met two super sweet people from my publisher, Eksmo. One of them used to work in IT, and he asked me to sign some cards. I was like: «One minute into the conversation, and already a Russian hacker wants a favour?» Don’t worry, he totally got the joke, and we talked about east and west, politics and publishing. I was reminded that no matter how much the world wants to divide us, books and stories will always bring us together. I hope the Russians love their books too...

Frankfurt book fair - survival report

Frankfurt book fair Norwegian main stage

Frankfurt book fair - I’m a survivor. Along with 300 000 others, I kid you not! Exhausting and exhilarating, so let’s get straight to the facts:

Proudest moment: Entering Norway’s main stage, talking about fantasy, with Erle Marie Sørheim (She’s brilliant!)

Worst moment: Getting a fever and having blood-chilling nightmares about recovering lost bodyparts. (Anyone missing a torso?)

Most embarrassing: Deichmanske library asking me - on camera - what I knew about Carl Deichman

Most educational: Googling Carl Deichman

Best lifehack: Fizzy pills for sore throats. Tasted like vomit, but worked like magic. (Thank you, Maja Lunde!)

Slowest time warp: A 3 minute walk to get coffee that took 20 minutes through Saturday’s crowd. Mission aborted half way. (Even I can't skip a signing for caffeine)

Best compliment: «I’m dying! I’m dying now!» (Thanks, Judith, happy to meet you, too.)

Best coffee: Holy Cross coffeeshop

Best seat: The sofa at the PAN stage, with Bernhard Stäber and Claudia Rapp.

What I’m an idiot for missing: Margaret Atwood

Worst fact: They ran out of Odinskind books

Best fact: They ran out of Odinskind books

My deepest thanks to NORLA for making this happen, to everyone who came to my talks and signings, to everyone who shared love online, and to Goethe & Schweitzer bookstore for the crowd photo ❤️

Frankfurt bookfair - my events

public.jpeg

Frankfurt. I hear it’s the financial hub of Europe, but I’m here for the books. I intend to marvel at stacks of paper, not our towering temples to capitalism, although cynics mights say it’s the same. So far, my superb survival skill of sniffing out the best coffee shops, has failed me, but I have faith in tomorrow. Tips are welcome!

On the top ten list of Norwegian authors in Germany

Top 10 Norwegian Authors in Germany

They have ranked the bestselling Norwegian authors in Germany right now, and I am so friggin’ pleased to be number nine on this list! Most of all because «fantasy is limited» and «only sells to a few geeks», obviously… Thank you so much, Germany, I love you too ❤️ See you next week in Frankfurt!
