"Birthday Blues"

Today is my birthday, and mixed feelings of happiness and sorrow wash over me. This feeling of sorrow has nothing to do with aging and the years going by. And, it has nothing to do with not having accomplished my goals for the past year—because I have.
It has to do with bittersweet memories of happy moments gone forever—of blissful times with beloved ones who’ve passed away and will never wish me a happy birthday again or be here with me to celebrate.
They will always be remembered for their unconditional love, encouragement, kindness, and wisdom, and will live in my heart forever. Thinking of them and our happy moments together brings a smile to my face.
There were sad moments and turbulent times, as well. But, we faced those moments holding hands, and giving strength to each other. I know they will always be there for me—watching over me like angels from heaven. However, their physical absence leaves a huge void that can never be filled.
And, it seems that this hollow feeling gets worse on my birthday. Why? I don’t know. Maybe, it’s the fact that every year I move further and further away from those happy times.
I feel down and lonely, but then, my little boy brings me some flowers to wish me a happy birthday, and I feel happy again. Life moves on, and whether we want it or not, we move along with it…

“Dogs: Our Furry Best Friends”

My dad and I with my beautiful dogs Prince (Siberian Husky) and Champion (Belgian Shepherd)
I want to start with a phrase of author and photographer, Roger Caras:
“Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.”
I love dogs, and during my life I had several of these beautiful and faithful friends to keep me company through good and bad times—happiness and sorrow.
Come to think of it, I believe that a dog can be a better friend than a human. And, I’ll tell you some of the reasons why:
He’s ALWAYS there for you
He doesn’t JUDGE you
He loves you UNCONDITIONALLY
You mean the WHOLE WORLD to him
He shows GRATITUDE and APPRECIATION because that’s the way he feels and not because that’s the way he’s supposed to act
He remains at your side through good AND BAD TIMES
You’re his NUMBER ONE PRIORITY
He loves you EVEN when you’re moody, upset, or even mad
He REMINDS you that you can find happiness in the simple things in life
He SUPPORTS you even when you make mistakes
He ENCOURAGES you even when you’re down the drain
He STAYS by your side even when you’re upset, and you send him away
He KEEPS all your secrets
*I apologize for using “he” instead of “she” or “he/she” but it’s the force of habit since I always had male dogs.
Here is another great quote about dogs by actor, Johnny Depp:
“The only creatures that are evolved enough to convey pure love are dogs and infants.”

Do you agree or disagree that a dog could be a better friend than a human?
Can you think of any other reasons why a dog could be considered a man’s best friend?

★★★★★ "Angel Sefer's Greek Island Series is a force to be reckoned with. Very addictive."

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful, September 3, 2015By BookwormThis review is from: Dark Shadows of the Past (The Greek Isles Series Book 4) (Kindle Edition)Christina Connors (or Sophia) wakes up in an alley and can't remember how her rib got broken and how the dead body ended up next to her. Detective Dan Mallory tries to help her re-gain the missing parts of her memory but a sinister gang is after Christina and abducts her.
She has secrets of her own, as we learn from later chapters, and she needs to decide whether or not she can trust Dan.
The two of them have great chemistry and provide an interesting romance to this action packed and fast paced, suspenseful story. Changing perspectives give us insight into both sides, the story keeps going with nail-biting drama and some unexpected turns.
Angel Sefer's Greek Island Series is a force to be reckoned with. Very addictive.

It is the fourth novel in The Greek Isles Series. Angel Sefer happens to be one of my favorite authors, and I was thrilled to receive this copy for free on a promo in exchange for an honest review. Having read her other books in this series, I knew this one would not disappoint. This page-turning thrilling love story has it all: drama, suspense, and mystery in two well-described locations: Atlanta, the Blue Ridge Mountains of Northern Georgia, and the island of Kefalonia. The wonderful characters will pull you in with their intrigue. No spoilers here, except it's a must read for mystery romance lovers. Highly recommend!!

4.0 out of 5 stars dark Shadows, August 23, 2015By Dex loves to readThis review is from: Dark Shadows of the Past (The Greek Isles Series Book 4) (Kindle Edition)Great novel that had all of the elements I enjoy. Kept me intrigued throughout.

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating, August 22, 2015This review is from: Dark Shadows of the Past (The Greek Isles Series Book 4) (Kindle Edition)This is another captivating mystery/thriller romance in The Greek Isles Series. Dark Shadows of the Past is an action-packed, suspenseful and intriguing story set in two locations, in two very different cultural contexts: 1) in Atlanta, the Blue Ridge Mountains of Northern Georgia, and 2) the Greek island of Kefalonia. This cultural cocktail gives the story its uniquely familiar but exotic flavor. What I liked most was the pace. It is incredibly fastpaced, with the plot moving forward rapidly and robustly, yet unpredictably. The story and the twists and turns are literally and metaphorically around every turn of the page, sometimes within the same paragraph; it will leave you gasping if not breathless. In my case, every time I thought I had it all figured out, a new twist left me thunderstruck. Wow! What a ride! If you enjoy fast moving literature with cultural significance, genuinely, then I recommend this book for you.
**Disclaimer** I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for a fair and unbiased review.

A Palette for Murder (A Lana Davis Mystery) by author, actress, painter, and sculptor Vanessa A. Ryan
An intriguing, traditional cozy mystery

Lana Davis arrives in New Mexico from Los Angeles, planning to look up a former boyfriend and take in some sightseeing. But this all-expense-paid trip is not a vacation. She's here to find Antonio Chavez, last seen in Santa Fe. He's the missing beneficiary of a large life insurance policy her company issued. The heat is on because a disgruntled heir insists he should receive the proceeds instead. However bogus his claim is, the public relations nightmare he causes for her company is real. If Lana doesn't find Antonio, her job is on the line.

Lana's search for Antonio brings her into the inner circle of a powerful art gallery in Santa Fe, owned by the daughter of a wealthy family. Although Lana's knowledge of art is limited to the one art history class she took in college, she soon discovers, when art and greed collide, the result is deadly. But her knack for finding dead bodies makes the police nervous. And finding herself a target for murder is more than she signed up for.
