Hot weather, yuck.

Labor Day is over, September isn’t even half over and that sucks cuz’ around here September is the hottest month of the year. And when I say hot, I mean it gets into the 80’s by the afternoon.

Spoiled, huh?

I spent years… years and years living in climates that got into the triple digits in May and stayed there until October. I hated that heat, moist heat, dry, it doesn’t matter it all sucks. I was born and raised in Monterey CA and when it got to 70 degrees in August or September we thought we were having a heat wave.

Yah, really.

My whole adult life I’ve known, in the back of my mind I always knew this central coast area of California was where I belonged. My lungs work here, my sinuses love the salt sea air… It took me a long time to get back, but September in Santa Cruz is the hottest month of the year and now that I’ve acclimated to the cool coastal weather I am miserable when the temperature climbs above 80 degrees.

Writing with a fan blowing on me dries out my eyeballs, and listening videos on YouTube of a cool babbling brook or hours and hours of ocean waves crashing on shore like they do less than a mile from here is just not enough to keep me from kvetching about how hot it is. All while remembering, quite clearly, trying to keep cool in summers past when the heat exceeded 110 degrees.

Ugh…

But I’m still working, working on writing; got to get five new pages written today after I finish editing what I’ve written so far…

And every once in a while, I’ll feel real sympathy for those enduring sweltering heat elsewhere, whether they’re acclimated or not.

Hot weather

Yuck.
