Find the Fake! Trivia Game #2

This trivia game is my friend James Torr’s terrific twist on Tim Walsh’s classic game TriBond (Tim’s also an author; he wrote, among others, the great book Timeless Toys: Classic Toys and the Playmakers Who Created Them — and don’t miss his terrific YouTube channel).

Each category includes three answers, but one of the answers is incorrect. Your job is simple: Find the fake!

Each correct answer is worth 1 point.

Interview with Dan Manley on WMST in Mt. Sterling, KY

I recently spoke to Dan Manley on WMST’s Mornings on Main about my book HOW TO HOST A GAME NIGHT, the Green Bay Packers, The Rifleman board game, and much more!

Our discussion, which lasted nearly a full hour, was great fun. WMST (1150 AM and 106.9 FM) is located in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, about 40 minutes east of Lexington.

You can listen to the entire discussion right here:

The Fantastic Four Meet The Four Horsemen – Visual Trivia

The Fantastic Four was one of my favorite superhero teams growing up. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse appear in the New Testament’s final book, Revelation. And the Four Horsemen dominated the National Wrestling Alliance in the mid-1980s. This quiz tests your knowledge of all of them!

All you have to do is identify all 19 things in the image above.

Scoring:

For numbers 1 to 4, you earn 1 point for the character’s civilian name (e.g., Peter Parker) plus 1 point for the character’s superhero...

NY Times: Host a Multigenerational Game Night

A recent article in The New York Times by Alexis Soloski (“Host a Multigenerational Game Night This Thanksgiving”) includes a lot of great tips for any family game night.

Here are the first two paragraphs:

Monopoly takes forever. Candy Land is dull, Chutes and Ladders preachy, the Game of Life troubling in its implications. So even as parents scramble for offscreen entertainment over the holidays, the prospect of a family game night may drive them to despair.

Some good news: We are living throug...

Interview with Ray Carr on WCSB-FM

I recently spoke to Ray Carr on The Ray Carr Show, which airs on WCSB-FM in Cleveland, about my book HOW TO HOST A GAME NIGHT, classic board games, and much more!

The interview was tremendously fun. Ray’s a terrific host (he’s been described as “the Larry King of Cleveland media” by the Cleveland Plain Dealer) and we covered a lot of topics in a short time.

You can listen to the interview right here. It starts at 1:25:33 into this MP3 (although the entire two-hour show is well worth listening to...

This, That, or the Other? #4

This game is inspired by the great NPR show and podcast Ask Me Another, hosted by Ophira Eisenberg.

In “This, That, or the Other,” you have to guess which of three categories a thing falls into. So — in the image above — each of the things listed is a:

Tabletop game;
Science fiction movie; or
1950s / 1960s children’s toy.

For each thing listed, guess one of those three categories. Each correct answer is worth 1 point.

Good luck!

This, That, or the Other? #3

It’s the last day to vote in this year’s U.S. presidential election, and this trivia game includes a few of the most interesting campaign slogans of all time.

This game is inspired by the great NPR show and podcast Ask Me Another, hosted by Ophira Eisenberg.

In “This, That, or the Other,” you have to guess which of three categories a thing falls into. So — in the image above — each of the things listed is:

A movie in which Ronald Reagan appeared or starred;
A song by Billy Joel; or

List-O-Mania Trivia Game #2

This week’s trivia game is inspired by the terrific game show America Says, which is hosted by John Michael Higgins and airs on the Game Show Network.

It’s pretty simple: Just fill in the blanks! (Click on the image, or here, for a larger version.) And pay close attention to the length of the blank — that’s always a clue. (i.e., A shorter blank means a shorter word.)

Each correct answer is worth 1 point.

BONUS POINTS:

+2 for completing “Pro Sports Franchises”

+3 for completing “World Capitals”
