In Tales from Real Life, putting the new flue in was great. It’s nice to be able to light the wood furnace without that nagging concern that this time will be the time I set the house on fire. But, with all the dust and insulation floating in the air, the lung monster has reared it’s ugly head and all I want to do is sleep, so there’s not much happening on the word front. I did make it 7.5 thousand words on Proud Flesh this weekend. You’re all going to hate me–I’m just warning you to take the sting out of it. And The Wall Nuts–the third story about Nathan–is sitting at about 5K. I should get it up in the progress bars, but I’m starting to get a bit embarrassed about how many there are. And there’s more I could throw up there too, but I’m trying to focus. (Hahahahaha!) I would like to get the little science fiction story finished, but the culture is giving me fits and I can’t find my story bible for it. It’s probably in a pile of papers somewhere. Maybe a nap this afternoon will loosen up enough energy to get some words down.

#RainbowSnippets: Rise of Alpha Squirrel
A few lines from the Shifting Times review of Your New Life as a New Adult, by Finnley Lakewood, Ph.D., and Gardenner Monk, Ph.D.
Lakewood and Monk are back with another of their cutting edge parenting books. In Your New Life as a New Adult, they touch on all the most worrisome of topics when your offspring gets to that age where they suddenly become invincible. From researching their preferred destination, to determining whether or not to look for a roommate, to how to deal with the idiosyncrasies of living with a species other than your own, they cover it all. Not content with exploring the most obvious topics, they delve deeper into the specifics of day-to-day life in the human world, and uncover a host of situations that the average were would never dream would happen. Territoriality, scent-marking, and the risks of romance are all covered in an intelligent and easy to understand language. The entire book emphasizes safety and preparedness, filled with real-life stories from young weres who have stumbled into those very situations…
Follow along in the tour to read all the excerpts, and see if you can figure out which of your neighbours are not actually human.

And your very own Charlie is waiting to fly home with you. (Just don’t make fun of his singing voice–he’s got a temper.)

Nathan's met Vince's family, but Vince hasn't met Nathan's, and Nathan would like to keep it that way. Holy smoked almonds, what else do you do when you know how completely nuts your relatives are?
Why, you ease your man into it, by introducing him to normal shifters. Assuming you can find any.
But with a gossipy werehummingbird spreading the news, and a pair of young red pandas wreaking havoc with their fainting goat friends, Nathan’s about ready to climb into a pine cone and pull it in after him.
Then the local playboy weremoose hears about Vince, and Nathan has to find his inner alpha or the consequences will be worse than moldy hazelnuts.
Coming February 25, 2016.

#RainbowSnippets: Rise of the Alpha Squirrel
Rainbow Snippets is a group of authors who get together every Saturday to post a 6 line snippet from a work in progress, or a work that’s already been published. There’s tons of fun reading every week, so check them out here!
Last week I introduced the red panda twins, who were named after Devon Hunter. (This is important information for the blog tour and giveaway starting Thursday. Hint, hint) This week I’m introducing Alice and Rudy, the pygmy fainting goat kids. (Mom’s a pygmy goat, Dad’s a fainting goat. It was my daughter’s idea.) This snippet happens shortly after the “Protect the burgers!” of last week.

Alpha Squirrel is a Bestseller!
Less than a day after going on pre-order, Alpha Squirrel has hit All Romance Ebooks Bestseller list. Thank you to everyone who pre-ordered! You’ve really made my day. My beta readers tell me you won’t be disappointed; I’m a little to close to it still to have any opinion on the relative merits of the story. For those who thought the first one was short on world-building, though, this one makes up for it.

Nathan's afraid to introduce Vince to other shifters. After all, who wouldn't want to steal good-enough-to-lick-all-over Vince? But Fate--and boyfriends--have a way of cracking all your best laid plans.

And we’re live!
Alpha Squirrel is currently up for pre-order on All Romance Ebooks. I’m still waiting for the Zon to say it’s okay, which may not be until tomorrow morning. I’ve posted the link anyway, since they gave me my ASIN. Now it’s just a waiting game.
And what do you think of this awesome graphic that Ana J Phoenix made for me? She’s got a knack for picking out the perfect quote for these things. I love it; it makes me laugh.
ETA: Amazon’s good now! Wow, that was fast. The link in the sidebar will take you to your Amazon store, if you want to pre-order.
Just a note: the current price of 99 cents is only good until March 3. On March 4, it goes back up to its regular price of $2.99. So if you’re interested, grab it while it’s cheap!

#RainbowSnippets: Rise of the Alpha Squirrel
As we get closer to release date, my fingernails get shorter. I’ve been bouncing around the story trying to figure out a good 6 lines to use for Rainbow Snippets this week (check out all of them here!), but I’ve found one that sort of introduces a few new characters.
Now, there’s a bit of a story behind these characters. I’ll explain the goats next week, but the red pandas I’ll explain right now. Devon Hunter is an actor in porn films and sometime male escort, and he loves red pandas. Like, serious squeeing kind of love. It all started as people being silly, chatting on Twitter, but somewhere in there, the red panda family was born, and the twins, Devon and Hunter, ended up being named after Devon. (But, Devon is way better behaved than the twins. Not that the twins mean badly, they’re just young and determined and, well–twins). And that’s why the book is dedicated to Devon.
There’s a serious possibility of Devon and Hunter and their older brother Jake coming back in their own book, once I get Nathan and Vince mostly squared away.
The subtle rustling of the bushes created a haven of privacy for them. Nathan had just finished licking raspberry juice and salad dressing from Vince’s fingers when it occurred to him—there wasn’t actually any wind. He sat back and peered in the direction of the noise.
A small red, masked face poked through the leaves. A second one popped up, right beside it. Then, with a massive crash of snapping twigs, two little black and white goats leaped over the pandas and into the campsite.
“Protect the burgers,” Nathan cried and ran to intercept the four-legged torpedoes barreling around the picnic table.
