Review
Joyful. Soulful. Entertaining…are what I’ll call Be One by Natalie Grant. Starting with the upbeat song, Be One, the one by which the album is titled, and also a song which I thoroughly enjoyed because it blessed my heart, it reminded me that I don’t always have to wait for a miracle, but step out for Jesus with all my heart, hands and feet to do something for the Kingdom! My favorite number, however, was track #4: Love Has Won—a true testimony of God’s unfailing love available for the weary, weak, and wounded. Need I mention Symphonies, a song with lyrics so full of praise and love for our God? (I just did!) The instrumentals of Symphonies was simply amazing, especially the sound of the violins (and other stringed instruments). I loved it!
While the collective rhythm is mostly upbeat, fun/funky pop, entertaining, and so, endearing, this album is so much more. For me, the lyrics were a sweet reminder of God’s promises and a lesson in faith and praise to our God. It is full of love, faith and hope—the three pillars of a Christian’s belief. This is the second time I’m saying this about an album this 2015, that I’m looking forward to seeing something from Be One in Wow 2017. I argue that Wow wouldn’t be complete without at least one song from the Be One album by Natalie Grant.

Definitely worshipful! This is the kind of music you listen to when you want to worship God and stand in awe of Him, and you need that booster that also helps you express yourself better with the right words—the lyrics are that beautiful! The music is traditional in every way, and at the same time, there’s that modern contemporary flair that’s quite endearing.
There’s an expression of relentless faith that flows from the lyrics and beats into the heart and soul of the listener, so that you find yourself meditating on God’s Word, even as you enjoy the music—what a combination! Good deal if you ask me.
As always I mention my favorite number—You Never Change (track 3).

Book Review ~ Love’s Dream Song by Sandra Leesmith
About the Book
Autumn O’Neill came to Arizona on an archaeological dig hoping to find out what happened to the ancient Anasazi tribes, but her true desire was to discover her own Navajo roots. It didn’t help that the dig was located on Jess Barron’s ranch and that the handsome rancher scorned his own native American heritage and believed Autumn was part of a drug ring operating on his land.
When the dig is compromised and danger threatens their lives, Jess and Autumn can no longer fight their attraction for each other. They both come to understand that finding answers means listening to the voices of their ancestors and the longings of their hearts.

Review
What stood out to me the most was the love story of Autumn and Jess, in the midst of the plot itself. You could sense that the romance and the emotions between the two were real and raw—so believable, even though it’s clearly fiction! This is what I love about Leesmith’s work. While being practical in creating her plots, the practicality doesn’t take away from her building a world of romance that any reader wouldn’t want to delve into. There’s a simplicity, yet intensity, to the selection of words she chooses to string together to make a breath-taking line, paragraph, scene, and then, an entire prose.
If you’re a lover of romance/suspense, you can’t go wrong with Leesmith’s books—whether Christian or mainstream! Her characters are dense (in a good way) and interesting to follow; her plots are rich (with everything!) and excellently engaging. Love’s Dream Song certainly delivered in all these, and so much more!

Scoop! ~ Chatting with Executive Producer/Filmmaker, Del Baron
You all remember stopped by on TBAP some time ago? Yeah, that one! Well, today her fellow colleague in film-making (and husband) is visiting us today! How great! Without further ado, I present to you, Del Baron, one of the executive producers of the faith-based movie, Adrenaline! Join us below!
Miranda ~ Hello Del! Glad to have you visit TBAP today. Could tell us a bit about yourself?
Del – I am married with 2 kids and currently living in Wilmington, NC. While I grew up out west, I find that the beaches in the east fit this time in my life very well. I love to work in film all week long, and then cater on the weekends to pay the bills. Finally, I attend Scotts Hill Baptist Church in Wilmington, NC.
Miranda ~ Interesting!
When did you first discover God and come to Him personally?
Del – I was raised in a very loving Christian home, and will say I found God at a very young age. I was baptized at 9 years old (the first time), and have stayed and strayed, in and out of church my whole life.
Miranda ~ When did you discover your talent for acting/film-making, and more importantly, when did you decide to use it for God?
Del – I am not really an actor, heaven forbid. :) I discovered my background as a meeting planner/event-coordinator, worked well in the film industry for the role of Producer. I knew a lot about film, having been married to my wife, , an actress, for 22 years and, I realized if I was going to do film, it was going to have to be for God.
Miranda ~ Could you tell us the story of your journey into film?
Del – My wife was working on a music video for John W. Schlitt, lead-singer of Petra, and introduced me to the film crew. We met and talked about me coming on board to help them with the feature film, Adrenaline.
Miranda ~ How have you grown spiritually since becoming a filmmaker? What lessons have you picked up along the way?
Del – This is one of the toughest industries I have ever been a part of and, without God, it is even tougher. There is a real spiritual battle going on, and I have learned I need to better prepare every day for this battle. We could have never made or even finished Adrenaline without God’s help throughout the entire production. Most important lesson? Man can and will let you down but, God never will.
Miranda ~ What misconceptions do people have about the world of entertainment, especially in regards to a career that can lead to fame?
Del – Most people will only see the success and think that this is what every actor or producer must be…successful. There are far more people not making it, and simply struggling to just get by, than actually finding any fame or fortune. It is long hours and hard work, and jobs can be few and FAR between.
Miranda ~ That could be sad. It’s time the rest of the world understood the truth.
In your opinion, as a filmmaker and a Christian, what principles do you believe help sustain a person with an entertainment career? What principles sustain the career itself?
Del – As Christians we have the gift of the Holy Spirit to guide and direct our paths. This has helped me and others I know, choose projects to work on, and people to work with. I myself believe we can choose not to put our time or effort into something we feel is not honoring God.
Miranda ~ True!
What other actors/filmmakers have you worked with in the past, both in the Christian and secular industries? What has the experience been like, and, what lessons/wisdom did you gain from working with them—any interesting story in particular?
Del – Over my lifetime I have worked with NBA teams, Rock Stars, A-list actors and top CEOs of major companies; the lesson I have learned, and what we all want, is respect. Treat each person with respect and give them what they ask for, including their own space, to be who they really are, and not the character they play. AND, We are all God’s children first!
Miranda ~ Interesting.
Why choose to work in the Christian film industry now, as opposed to the secular? What was your experience on the Iron Man 3 set?
Del – I believe TV and film need more faith-based or family-friendly films today, than ever before. I have two kids who I want to be proud of the work I do, and to be able to watch our work. I was a background extra on Iron Man 3, and went on that set to learn from the pros, and even hire crew for our film. I learned a lot, and it is by far the best way to see what really goes on, and who does what, on a set.
Miranda ~ What do you hope to impart when viewers watch the movie Adrenaline?
Del – The importance of a father, both earthly and heavenly, to youth today. It is impossible to fill the missing love of a father, with Adrenaline or anything else.
Miranda ~ How did you select the cast for Adrenaline?
Del – We worked with two casting agents: , out of Texas, to book actor, , and, , for the local talent. Some of the cast, we had already selected; some, once we saw the auditions, we said, “that’s the one!” And others, it took a long time and a lot of prayer to cast the right person. Overall, I was very pleased with every actor’s performance and our selections.
Miranda ~ What project will you be moving on to now? When can we expect it? Also, will you build Adrenaline into a series—that is, a franchise, or will it be a standalone movie?
Del – I have three projects that I have been asked to help produce. Two are close to finalizing their funds and will be in production in 2016…stay tuned. We had talked about either an Adrenaline 2 or perhaps a TV series but, we do not have anything in the works for either of these two options at this time. We are waiting on God, as He has not yet opened the next door. (Isaiah 40:31)
Miranda ~ What word of wisdom can you offer an actor/actress who’s just beginning?
Del – Get with a talent agency who will be honest with you, and then, listen to them. Find some good solid people to surround yourself with—who can help you to navigate the pitfalls. Take small parts and side jobs, so you can learn this industry. Remember, Craft Services is the one place you will always meet every person on set!
Miranda ~ Smart advice!
What word of wisdom can you offer a filmmaker who’s just starting out?
Del – Practice your craft and surround yourself with the best team you can find. ALWAYS KEEP LEARNING!
Miranda ~ Is there any word—anything at all!—you’d like to say that wasn’t covered by the above questions?
Del – I want to end with the importance of prayer on set. Please, if you are a Christian in this industry, make sure you pray every day on set. This is a journey we are taking, and you never know who you will impact along the way. May God bless you.
Miranda ~ Thank you for that!

Review
You now those books which, while you’re still in the middle of the story, you already know it’s probably a five-r—that is, those that will end up with a five-star rating, or something close—this is one of them! This installment in the Steadfast Love Series—The Sound of Silver—is so rich in almost every plot element you can think of, without it being too much.
Gwyn and Dirk both faced stark confusion and other odds that got in the way of their greatest desire. Also, loss, and fear of the danger that lurked around, caused even more pain for them. But with God’s wisdom, grace, and guidance, they were able to find themselves on the path where they belonged, with this part of the story concluding with a delightful ‘Happily Ever After!’ What I love most about the theme is that, you can never go wrong with trusting God with your life, or with someone else’s; it was portrayed beautifully!
Another flawless prose by Rachelle Rea!

Review
I didn’t quite know what to expect with this book. But being that I loved the first installment in the series—Swept to Sea—I looked forward to reading it. It was so much more than I expected! Mixed with the element of romance, an engaging plot, a depiction of the Caribbean waters in the 1600s, as well as a hint of the humorous (and ridiculous!) dramas of the high society of England at the time, I found myself chuckling at some instances—especially where “class” met “brute,” as in the case of Ivy and Gage, and his sailors.
Manning is a gifted writer, with a keen sense for combining human drama and chaos to create something neat and special. Her writing flowed effortlessly from one scene to the next, no matter how soft or chaotic—whatever she chose to portray!
I have to mention that my favorite scene was the last one in the book. I didn’t see that coming, considering the characters involved. Definitely eyebrow-raising! And this is why I’m looking forward to the next story!
The theme was a brilliant reminder that before God, all men are indeed equal, and He could write your love story, choosing anyone of any status—anyone at all!—no matter what the rules of society have to say about it. And, hasn’t history and time proven that this is true, even in the case of Joseph, son of Jacob? Humility is what we all need if we will submit to God so that we can fully enjoy His blessings.
That being said, well done, Heather Manning! I applaud your excellent penmanship!

Book Review ~ The Sunken Realm by Serena Chase
About the Book
She is an outcast among knights
Her reputation in ruins, her knighthood revoked, and her future bleak, Erielle de Gladiel would have welcomed death as her due. Captured by pirates, she was beaten, whipped, branded a thief—and worse—and then set adrift to die. She did not expect—or even want—to be rescued. Especially not by the dashing blasted pirate now calling himself her husband.
He is the King of Pirates
His oath satisfied and his Legacy secured, Cazien vows vengeance on all who harmed Erielle. But before he can hunt them down, a strange visitor appears with an urgent message—a message that aligns with prophecy Erielle has written in her sleep: The Seahorse Pirates must reach Nirista before the famed Tournament of the Twelve . . . or hundreds of stolen children will die.
Together, they are relentless
With the fate of many resting upon them, Cazien and Erielle sail to Nirista. Once there, they are forced to follow separate paths to achieve their aims. Treacheries are uncovered and allies are gained, but in the shadows, a hidden foe plots a grievous betrayal that could shatter not only their hope, but the Seahorse Legacy itself.
The epic conclusion of this series-within-a series, The Sunken Realm sweeps Erielle and Cazien along a pulse-pounding voyage to discover all they are meant to become, together. Giving subtle nods to several fairy tales, including an unexpected twist to the story of The Twelve Dancing Princesses, this romantic YA pirate adventure is the final novel in the Eyes of E’veria series . . . but the Seahorse Pirates and their friends in E’veria may yet have stories to tell.

Review
The Sunken Realm is the conclusion of the Eyes of E’veria Series, and a good one, too! Though the first installment, The Ryn, began on a relatively soft and light note, the story throughout the course of the series, progressed to a much darker fantasy, so that The Sunken Realm was bittersweet in some parts of it. The end, however, was a fitting finish to this awesome story.
I have to applaud Chase’s imagination—quite stellar, captivating, and innovative (considering it was a retelling of The Twelve Dancing Princesses, but in a unique way, with a unique twist.) I loved watching Erielle and Cazien mature so gracefully, learning to pick up the pieces of their broken lives and dreams ever so quickly, while holding onto hope for a brighter future.
The Sunken Realm is a story of triumph of good over evil, despite harsh afflictions; it’s a story of undying hope in dire situations/circumstances; and it’s a story of new beginnings, love and the strengthening of old friendships, even while new ones are being made!
Though some parts of it pierced my heart, overall, I enjoyed reading it, and of course, I recommend it!

Scoop! ~ Chatting with Actress, Juli Tapken
Still on promoting the movie, Providence, I’m glad to welcome actress, Juli Tapken, on TBAP! She’s delightful, sweet, and very friendly (so glad we’re facebook buddies, too!) Without much ado, I invite you to join us in the conversation below:
Miranda: Hello Juli! Wonderful to have you visit TBAP today. Could tell us a bit about yourself?
Juli – I’m just a regular girl. I’m a 40-year old wife, and mother to one son. My family is my heartbeat and, they go everywhere I go. We are on this journey together. We are truly going for this thing for Him (God). I have been involved in many missions throughout my life, and have never felt more called to anything more so than I do this mission of going out there to minister in this incredibly difficult industry. We are fully committed to this. My husband, Jeff, is my manager and handler. We home school our son, and teach him to follow God’s call on his life, and that we are all gifted and prepared for a great purpose if we will align our will with His.
Miranda: Wonderful!
How did you become a Christian? Tell us your story.
Juli – I learned about Jesus on my mama’s knee. She taught me that no matter what your circumstances are, you can trust that God loves you, will provide for you, has a purpose for every pain, and will bring a victory and an abundant harvest. If we remain steadfast, we will see Him move. So I was blessed to be trained up in The Way I Should Go. I accepted Jesus as my savior at 5 years old. I knew exactly what He did for me; I wanted the hope and freedom of a heart that I knew came only from Him. I was baptized, and identified with dying-to-self, therefore rising to the walk of newness of life. Of course, I had to test His limits and question His love many, many, many times! But He is always faithful to lovingly teach me through my defiance. I’ve had to re-surrender my life to His will every day, and let Him work out His plan for me.
Miranda: Wow. Truly admirable!
You’re into acting. How did it all begin?
Juli – With a children’s program at our church, when I was 7. We performed Psalty’s Christmas Calamity, and I was blessed to sing a solo. It was the first time I realized how powerfully God could speak to people through song and sketch. It changed my heart; God revealed His purpose for my life, and why I could do the things that I do.
Miranda: What led you to decide to go into Christian ministry as opposed to secular?
Juli – Honestly, it wasn’t really a conscious decision. God just opened the doors to projects that fit my passions and sensibilities. Not every project I’ve worked on has been decidedly “Christian,” but they all have a redeeming value, and, that’s what I’m about. We bathe every single opportunity in prayer, and seek only His will as it doesn’t have to be a “Christian film” for God to use me to minister and resonate with an audience. As an ambassador for Christ, I fervently pray His influence is evident to every cast and crew on every project. So I try not to limit His desired field for me to sow seeds of truth. If there is a cameraman or PA that wants to know more about the peace we have, and God wants to place me on a secular film set to show them His grace, then that’s where I’ll be. That being said, He has instilled in me certain standards that I should keep, and lines that I shouldn’t cross for a role—no matter what. Remembering God’s calling seldom feels safe and comfortable. We just need to hear, trust and commit.
Miranda: I’m truly glad you’ve chosen to uphold the principles God has placed in your heart, no matter what!
Can you list some of your work for the readers? Thank you!
Juli ~ Surrender (2014); Providence (2016); Mission Improbable (2015); The Shoes (2015); The Reins Maker (2016)—just to name a few of the most recent ones. I have been beyond blessed with more than my share of great stuff!
Miranda: In what ways is the Christian film industry different from the secular?
Juli ~ Artists are very passionate people, and all collaboration must be done with an element of grace. I have found that people in the industry, whether Christian or not, are passionate about their dreams, and will work hard to accomplish them. The only difference is—to what end? For whose glory and advancement do they go through this amazing and crazy process?
Miranda: Do you think there’s room for improvement in the Christian industry?
Juli ~ There is always room for improvement. As long as we get to tell redemption stories, we should always seek to tell them honestly and authentically. I feel a lot of times that Christian films shy away from tough subject matters; they touch on sin in a sterile way—afraid of offending the church. As Christians in the entertainment industry, we have to ask ourselves if our mission is to entertain the choir or to reach lost people with The Truth. Not to glorify sin and its lifestyle, but to shine a light onto it. The bible never sugar-coats the depravity of our human nature, but uses it to reveal our need for grace every day. I’d like to see more Christian films show the true struggle that is life on this planet surrounded by people, with thoughts and actions we can’t control, countered by our choices which we can control.
Miranda: Absolutely, interesting thing you just said!
How has your journey so far in acting/filmmaking helped grow your personal relationship with God?
Juli ~ I have no choice but to lean on Him for everything—provision, protection, my next job, when I need to allow my emotions go to a place where it should relate to a scene, etc. I know He is the vine, the source of all these gifts, and I must stay connected so my fruit will ripen and grow.
Miranda: How would you describe your journey so far—the ups and downs?
Juli ~ Well, in film, there are no guarantees. Even if you’re cast, there’s no guarantee you’ll shoot, or make it through edit, or that a project will even be completed. I truly have learned to thank God for every door He opens, but especially for every door He closes.
Miranda: Thanking God for closed doors takes trust, submission, and humility. I like that!
Is film exactly how you imagined it would be?
Juli ~ I’m not sure I could ever have imagined this.
Miranda: How has your journey inspired you to move forward?
Juli ~ God’s been so faithful in allowing me to learn as I serve Him—to realize the difference between when I let Him work, and when I try to do it myself. And every time He shows up in a performance, it is so elating that I just want to have that opportunity to let Him do it again, because, His light shines so much brighter than mine!
Miranda: What has been your experience on the Providence set?
Juli ~ I absolutely adored my time on the Providence set! wonderful to work with and, are very dedicated to making sure each and every person involved knows how vital they are to the overall project.
Miranda: How has it made you a better actor/person?
Juli ~ Every opportunity to work shows me ways to improve. Both professionally and personally. I look back every night and assess what was done, what could have been better, and what is in my control to fix for tomorrow.
Miranda: I love your passion, Juli!
The role you played in Providence, how did it inspire you personally?
Juli ~ I love the story of Providence! The obvious love story of Rachel and Mitchell, but also the underlying story of Christ’s great love and patience for His bride, the church: how He lovingly lets us come to the realization of His sufficiency on our own, and how He is right there waiting the whole time.
Miranda: What do you hope viewers of this movie will walk away with?
Juli ~ I hope people will realize their worth, that true love is worth the wait, and that every day brings us closer to our destiny.
Miranda: What are you most grateful for in your life right now?
Juli ~ Jesus, Jeff and Lain.
Miranda: Sweet!
In what ways do you hope to inspire people, now and in the future?
Juli ~ I hope people look at me and at what God is accomplishing with this one surrendered life, and recognize all the gifts they are equipped with, and how they can use them to bring hope and change, one choice at a time.
Miranda: Again, sweet!
As an actor/filmmaker, what advice would you give to anyone venturing into the industry?
Juli ~ Stay true, stay humble, stay the course, be patient, be selective, and, work everywhere you can: community theater, church dramas, improve groups, etc. When you do it because you love it, every gig becomes “the big one.”
THIS or THAT (The Fun Questions!)

Review
This is a sophisticated blend of hip-hop and rock. In-depthly mature, as well as entertaining, the lyrics don’t relent in preaching God’s message of truth, with sincerity and poignancy—there’s boldness in these lyrics, which is quite endearing!
Manafest, overtime, has composed a blend of music that is unique to him. I appreciate this so much! One song in particular, got my attention (and the lyrics are still ringing in my head!)—Shine featuring Trevor McNevan—my favorite line being: “mama didn’t raise no rolling stone!”
Bold in its message, poetic in its choice of lyrics, and entertaining in rhythm/beats, this is an outstanding album in the world of Christian hip-hop/urban/rock mixes, in 2015 releases. The sound engineering was terrific. The complex ingredients of different genres were combined to produce a unique taste in music.
