Natasha reverses her psoriasis

Screen Shot 2015-03-26 at 7.31.01 AM

Look at Natasha’s “before” and “after” photos of her psoriasis.

Before and after pics of my psoriasis healing 6 months into my new diet. Amazing what food can do to or for you.

“I had been told there was no cure for it and was given a steroid cream to help ease discomfort. Look at me now!”

Unlike, say, acid reflux, bowel urgency of irritable bowel syndrome, and joint pain in the wrists and fingers, the phenomena of autoimmune conditions recede more slowly, reflecting the more complex processes that reverse with wheat/grain elimination, as well as other phenomena that need to develop, such as alterations in bowel flora and healing of the intestinal lining (disrupted by the prolamin proteins of grains).

But patience pays off in the world of autoimmunity, as it did for Natasha, and she has been freed from the disfigurement, irritation, embarrassment of this condition, while being spared the medications and the complications of this disease (such as psoriatic arthritis).

For the additional strategies to consider to further protect us from autoimmune diseases, see this Wheat Belly Blog post as well as the extended discussions in Wheat Belly Total Health.

JoCarol’s trip to hell and back!

Screen Shot 2015-02-28 at 9.21.34 AM

Remember JoCarol?

JoCarol had a spectacular weight loss success with the Wheat Belly lifestyle, losing 33 pounds. But she went off the program, succumbing to the powerful appetite-stimulating properties of wheat, such as gliadin protein-derived opiates and blood sugar highs of the amylopectin A (followed by the ravenous effect of the blood sugar lows), gaining 60 pounds.

Well, now she’s back: “Feb 28-3/22 wheat free. Down 12 pounds.”

She resumed the Wheat Belly lifestyle and, while she has only lost 12 pounds over the past 3 weeks, you can see the dramatic change in her face.

JoCarol update

I believe that, having traveled this journey in both directions, she now recognizes how powerful this lifestyle is for weight and health. She lost weight, but she also lost inflammation and edema that accounts for such a huge change in facial appearance with such a modest quantity of lost weight.

This is why it is so important that, once you follow this lifestyle, you should stick with this lifestyle, not even allowing a single cookie or pretzel to lead you astray.

Wheat Belly: The faces tell the story

Screen Shot 2015-03-22 at 9.02.15 AM [image error]

Ann shared her experience with the Wheat Belly lifestyle. While she describes some substantial health benefits, you can tell that a lot of changes have occurred just from her photograph.

During my “pre-Wheat Belly” lifestyle, my face was puffy, I was heavier all over, my hair was thinning and brittle, I was tired all the time and my joints were starting to ache.

“I feel great now. My hair is soft, thicker and longer, no more puffy face, no more sore joints. Now I can hardly wait to wake up in the morning to go for a walk!”

It’s something we witness every day: Yes, people lose weight. But the changes in appearance, especially that of the face, are out of proportion to the weight lost. Just look at Ann’s eyes alone: less puffy, larger–we’ve seen this effect countless times. It reflects the loss of facial skin edema and inflammation, an effect that occurs body-wide but is most evident on the face.

As I point out time and time again, the Wheat Belly lifestyle is not just another low-carb diet; it is a rejection of the inflammatory, health-crippling effects of wheat and grains.

Wheat Watch: Broth

photo-1

Broth is called for in a number of Wheat Belly Cookbook recipes. It is a wonderful ingredient to use in cooking and sauces to add flavor. However, as with virtually all processed foods, many brands pose a wheat/grain exposure hazard. Take a look at the ingredient list of this brand of beef broth:

Broth ingredients

The hydrolyzed vegetable protein is sourced from wheat, corn, or soy. While the protein itself may or may not pose any risk itself, it is often contaminated with other wheat/grain proteins that can trigger grain re-exposure reactions, such as bloating, diarrhea, and joint pain. Likewise, the caramel color also poses a potential wheat/corn exposure.

In the Wheat Belly lifestyle, we alwqys try to stick to real, single-ingredient foods whenever possible. However, some processed foods can be helpful for convenience and as timesavers, such as mayonnaise, salad dressings, and broths. When you do resort to processed foods, always be on the lookout for wheat in all of its varieties of forms, corn likewise, the two most common hidden grain ingredients.

You could make your own broth, of course: not only do you not chance inadvertent wheat/grain exposures, but it tastes so much better and is has greater nutritional value (e.g., hydroxyapatite and proline from bones, cartilage, and connective tissue).

Phil “changed the way he sees things”–look what happened

Screen Shot 2015-03-20 at 7.04.06 AM

Phil shared these experiences on his Wheat Belly journey.

“Started on May 2014, the journey began: type 2 medicated diabetic, obese, anger and anxiety, mood swings, constant cravings, poor sleep, unhappy and ashamed.

“Journey continues, removed all white flour products, sugar, grain-free, also processed foods. Weight loss 42 lbs, HbA1c 5.1%, no anger, anxiety, moods are balanced, good libido, sleep soundly and no more cravings. I am off diabetic meds and at a weight I haven’t seen since 1971! This is a way of life. I never feel deprived or ashamed.”

“When we finally change the way we see things, the things we see will change. I never believed I would be at this place and am so humbled and blessed.”

Besides Phil’s huge health success in reversing his type 2 diabetes, the dramatic shift in mood is an important part of this lifestyle that Phil experienced. Such a change is NOT accomplished by simply reducing carbohydrates or limiting calories. It is accomplished by removing the mind active drugs that derive from wheat and related grains, the opioid peptides that exert effects that range from mental “fog” to impulsivity to suicidal obsessions. Being set free from such mind active effects by rejecting the food that ALL official agencies tell us should dominate every meal is liberating–liberating in well being, liberating us from anxiety, anger, and other negative emotions, liberating from the lists of drugs prescribed to us as efforts to “treat” the consequences of grain consumption.

Phil is not just thinner or healthier; he is also happier.

Michelle rejects “healthy whole grains”

Screen Shot 2015-03-18 at 7.53.25 PM

“Thanks Dr Davis. Met my goal weight loss of 40 lbs in 8 months.”

Michelle’s wonderful results with the Wheat Belly lifestyle are yet another added to the thousands recorded on this blog and on the Wheat Belly Facebook page: people who, typically after struggling with health and weight for years, losing and regaining the same few pounds while not experiencing much in the way of health improvements, now discover what genuine health looks and feels like.

Any “officials” from the USDA, US Dept of Health and Human Services, or other agencies purporting to do dietary good: We throw “healthy whole grains” in the trash, or at least relegate them to the role that they should have served all along, the role of food for the hungry and desperate . . . period.

Look at Jenny’s facial transformation

Screen Shot 2015-03-18 at 9.35.13 AM

Jenny shared her astounding facial transformation achieved by following the Wheat Belly lifestyle for about one year. In addition to the facial changes and weight loss, Jenny reports relief from anxiety, sadness, and anger, as well as positive changes in body odor.

“Just another low-carb diet”? Just “cutting calories”? Nope. This is a transformation in metabolism, physiology, and health that is reflected on the skin and face in such wonderful ways.

Deb’s breathtaking Wheat Belly experience

Screen Shot 2015-03-16 at 9.50.30 PM

Here is one of the many instances where pictures speak louder than words. Yes, Deb underwent a breathtaking, life-changing shift in appearance–but she also feels better.

“I look better, but I FEEL so much better. It’s amazing! Thanks Wheat Belly!”

Take a look at Deb’s facial transformation, a change that made even me gasp:

Anne’s Wheat Belly success

Screen Shot 2015-03-14 at 10.06.53 AM

Anne shared these photos revealing her substantial drop in size on the Wheat Belly lifestyle.

I’m now at 170 from 217. I stayed at 175 for two months and now dropping again.

My shoulders and top have gone from a Size 2X or more to a Size M or 14 – 16, and in pants from a 20 plus to a 14-16.

I am so happy to feel so good with Wheat Belly. I have my life back. With my knee injury, I can’t exercise yet other than swimming.

Those of you following the Wheat Belly discussion know that experiences like Anne’s are fairly common around here, a reversion back towards normal weight by rejecting the “official” advice to consume “healthy whole grains.” We eat no wheat or grains and a level of control over appetite, weight, and health is restored that you may have thought you’d never enjoy again.

Eat more fat, eat real single-ingredient foods, never eat any wheat nor grains, tell the USDA to mind their own business (meaning agribusiness, since they cannot serve both agribusiness and the public interests simultaneously), and you will be on your way to astounding levels of health and weight control.
