What is your life?

Sometimes I feel like I’m not living *my* life.  You know—the life where I wake up and set about my day accomplishing the tasks I’ve planned to tackle.  The life where those I communicate with acknowledge my message and respond with messages of their own, all working toward a common goal. The life where unavoidable, unexpected derailments to one’s plans are infrequent, and rarely enough to tip the balance of one’s easy-going nature into the RED zone.

See, I’m not living that.  I’d like to write it off as a fantasy life, but the truth is, I’ve lived a version of the above. Enough that it forms the basis of my expectation for the present, and for the future.

The truth is, I’ve worked very hard to make a life that is less filled with stress and more filled with peace.  That is SO important to me.

But, we moved.

And there’s a reason why “they say” moving is one of life’s biggest stressors.  It is.

I love our new home.  I love the kids’ new schools.  I love our new routine (which we’re still feeling out, just days following a two-week fall break in which they were back at home 24/7).

But with moving comes so much stress.

The dog gets out, runs down our lengthy, steep driveway and down the road.  I have to leave the toddler behind and haul ass to catch her, all the while hoping fervently we don’t both get creamed on our curvy country lane.

The school cafeteria has an automated account system allowing me to deposit lunch money online that my children spend the following week—but the lunch ladies tell my sons their accounts are running low, which sends them into a flurry of stress that I find difficult to allay, despite pulling up the lunch money website and showing them their balances.

A teacher repeatedly responds to my concerns about his special needs with an terse, often ALL CAPS SCREAMING EMAIL something to the effect of I RECEIVED YOUR EMAIL.  Her correspondence revolves around her own personal life, when she does invest a moment.  Weeks later she writes *me* a lengthy email CONCERNED HE WON’T DO WELL ON THE ISTEP.

The list goes on.  Between figuring out the school bus schedules, receiving the neighbor’s mail, learning to start a fire in the wood stove, or discovering the former owners did NOT fix the kitchen sink (via the flood from under the sink and the stink of mildew)…it goes on and on and on and won’t stop for a long time.

But, eventually we will adapt.

It *will* be my life again.

I’m not sure how long that will take, but if I could have *anything* for my birthday, it would be just a day of peace.  Just a day of not feeling stressed out, of being able to relax, of not having to mess with five million things.

I’m not going to get that this year for my birthday.  I might never get that again, until I’m dead.  I’m not wishing for that, though.

Just trying to accept my life, even when it’s full of things that differ from my plans.

Back to writing, and feeling FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC about it.  Feel like I have my life back, except it’s a new life, because it’s in a new house that I love.

I reposted this photo because it screams “Autumn Writerly Things” at me, but it isn’t actually my house.  ;)

Breaks my heart.  We’ve got a real brainiac male cardinal (more brilliant this one, even!) outside ramming into my son’s window.  I gave up and hung up a sheet since I haven’t gotten curtains for the boy’s room yet.  I hate to miss out the view but if this boy kills himself I’ll be quite sad!!!

In a perfect world...

A demonstrated lack of reading skills would immediately disqualify an aspiring professional from teaching reading skills.

Fall Into Fantasy!

redtash:

The weather’s gorgeous!  Leaves are turning, a crisp chill is on the air.  Autumn’s awesome outside—until it’s not.  I don’t know about the weather where you are, but here in Southern Indiana, we’ve hit the rainy season of fall.  Although the trees are still putting on a show, it’s indoor-viewing only—and on days like today, it’s not worth leaving the house because of the pouring down rain.

So what’s a bookworm to do?

OH, YEAH.  It’s READING SEASON!  Are you ready to FALL INTO FANTASY, BABIES?

This year, more than FIFTY AUTHORS of fantasy and paranormal books are giving away books and swag. Hope you’re ready to start clicking and start winning because the Rafflecopter awaits!

Win!  Win!  Win!
