Dios Te ha Dado un Manual de Instrucciones para tu Cuerpo

“Guarda en tu corazón mis mandamientos. Porque prolongarán tu vida muchos años y te traerán prosperidad”. Proverbios 3:1b-2 (NVI)

Si yo tuviera una píldora que prometiera añadir años a tu vida, probablemente pagarías mucho dinero por ella. Pero te digo que, como cristiano, tú ya tienes la llave para una larga vida y ¡es gratis!

Dios nos ha dado los principios para el control de la salud en su Palabra, la Biblia. La Biblia es el manual de instrucciones para tu cuerpo. Como David dijo, “Tú me hiciste; me creaste. Ahora dame la sensatez de seguir tus mandatos” Salmo119:73 (NTV). Y en Deuteronomio, dice “No son palabras vacías; ¡son tu vida! Si las obedeces, disfrutarás de muchos años en la tierra” Deuteronomio 32:47 (NTV). Dios dice “Si tú haces lo que yo digo con tu salud, disfrutarás de una vida larga”.

Nuestro versículo clave de hoy dice, “Guarda en tu corazón mis mandamientos. Porque prolongarán tu vida muchos años y te traerán prosperidad” Proverbios 3:1b-2 (NVI).  ¿Cuáles son algunos de esos mandamientos? “Confía en el Señor de todo corazón, y no en tu propia inteligencia. Reconócelo en todos tus caminos, y él allanará tus sendas. No seas sabio en tu propia opinión; más bien, teme al Señor y huye del mal. Esto infundirá salud a tu cuerpo y fortalecerá tu ser. Honra al Señor con tus riquezas y con los primeros frutos de tus cosechas. Así tus graneros se llenarán a reventar…” Proverbios 3:5-10 (NVI).

Estos versos resaltan algunos factores que probablemente no tomas en cuenta, pero te mantendrán saludable, estos son: tranquilidad, confianza en Dios, integridad, humildad y generosidad. Estas cosas causarán que tu salud mejore, porque tu salud física es influenciada por tu salud espiritual.

Hoy, toma un momento para meditar en Proverbios 3:1-10 y pídele a Dios que te muestre la forma en la cual puedes crecer en tranquilidad, confianza, integridad, humildad y generosidad.

It’s Never Too Late to Follow God’s Call

“Now here I am, eighty-five years old. I am still as strong today as I was the day Moses sent me out, and I am just as ready to fight now as I was then. So give me the mountain country the LORD promised me that day long ago.”

Joshua 14:10-12 (NCV)

It’s never too late to follow God’s calling on your life.

After Joshua sent 12 spies into the Promised Land, they returned and reported that the land was too hard a place for God’s people to settle. And because of their unbelief, the Israelites wandered around in the desert for another 40 years. An entire generation died because they did not believe in God’s promises. But Caleb and Joshua believed, so they got to live.

When the Israelites returned to the Promised Land 40 years later, Caleb said, “Now here I am, eighty-five years old. I am still as strong today as I was the day Moses sent me out, and I am just as ready to fight now as I was then. So give me the mountain country the LORD promised me that day long ago” (Joshua 14:10-12 NCV).

“Give me the mountain country”—I love that! The land Caleb wanted was full of giants and cities fortified with great walls. He was saying to God, “Give me the biggest assignment. Give me the hardest city. Give me the place with the biggest giants. Give me the mountain regions. I don’t want some easy place. I know I’m 85 years old, but I’ve still got it in me to do great things for you.”

When I bought a birthday card for my granddaughter, I noticed something I’d never seen before in the greeting card section. They now have an entire section that offers birthday cards for the 80th, 85th, 90th, 95th, and even 100th birthdays! Growing up, I didn’t see those kinds of cards, because most people didn’t live that long. But now, life expectancy is much higher.

If you’re an older adult, you may think it’s time to hang it up. I’m telling you, it’s time to get it down and dust it off! Do you think God is going to let you live 30 more years just to play golf?

Here’s a word that’s not in the Bible: retirement. You may stop working, but you keep serving the Lord. You have more wisdom and experience now than when you were younger, and God is not going to waste that.

At the age of 85, Caleb began the greatest mission of his life. Moses was 80 when God called him to set God’s people free. Abraham was 79 when he received God’s call.

If you are in the Caleb generation, please believe that it’s never too late to start on your life calling. The best is yet to come!

Cómo Permanecer Entusiasmado toda la Vida

“Nunca dejen de ser diligentes; antes bien, sirvan al Señor con el fervor que da el Espíritu. Alégrense en la esperanza, muestren paciencia en el sufrimiento, perseveren en la oración”. Romanos 12:11-12 (NVI)

Para poder lograr tus metas, tienes que poder mantener tu entusiasmo a largo plazo.

Ralph Waldo Emerson dijo, “Nunca lograrás nada grande sin entusiasmo”. Yo creo eso con todo mi corazón. Esa frase se ha hecho realidad en mi vida. Tienes que tener pasión, tienes que tener entusiasmo, o nunca llegarás a la meta.

La mayoría de las personas me considerarían una persona entusiasta, y lo soy. Pero no he sido entusiasta por una semana o un mes o un año. Mi entusiasmo no ha disminuido en cinco, diez o veinte años. He sido consistentemente entusiasta acerca de las metas que he fijado por más de 30 años.

¿Cómo puedes hacer eso? ¿Cómo te mantienes entusiasta día a día a pesar de los obstáculos, dificultades, callejones sin salida, presiones y críticas? ¿Cómo puedes ser entusiasta por más de 30 años?

Un pensamiento positivo no es suficiente. Tus habilidades psicológicas no son suficientes. Sumergirte en optimismo no es suficiente.

La forma de mantener tu entusiasmo por el resto de tu vida lo encuentras en la palabra: “entusiasmo”. La palabra entusiasmo viene de la palabra griega “en theos”. “theos” es el vocablo griego para Dios. Así que “en theos” significa “en Dios”.

Cuando estés “en Dios”, serás entusiasta. Ese es el tipo de entusiasmo que no se afecta por la economía o el clima o tus circunstancias. Es eterno porque estás sujeto a un Dios eterno. Estás en Cristo.

Pablo nos dice cómo conseguir esto en Romanos 12:11-12. Él dice: “Nunca dejen de ser diligentes; antes bien, sirvan al Señor con el fervor que da el Espíritu. Alégrense en la esperanza, muestren paciencia en el sufrimiento, perseveren en la oración” (NVI).

Si quieres cumplir tus propósitos este año, necesitas el poder de Dios para que te alegres en la esperanza, seas paciente en el sufrimiento y perseveres en la oración.

Te invito a hacer esta oración:

“Querido Dios, no quiero pasar otro día sin tu presencia en mi vida, toma cada parte de mi corazón. Te ofrezco mi cuerpo. Me dedico a ti. Por todo lo que has hecho por mí, me ofrezco como un sacrificio vivo en adoración espiritual a Ti”.

“Humildemente admito que necesito ayuda. Quiero que me ayudes a renovar mi mente. Ayúdame a pensar en la forma en que tú quieres que piense. Por favor perdona mi orgullo. No quiero tener un concepto más alto de mí, del que debo tener. Mi fe necesita desarrollarse, y necesito tu ayuda para tener las metas que se puedan medir de tal forma que yo las pueda dirigir. Perdona mis intentos de cambiar por mí mismo”.

“Quiero llenar mi vida con amor. Quiero llenar mi vida de Ti. Ayúdame a obtener ayuda de mis compañeros en mi grupo pequeño. Ayúdame a deleitarme en honrar a otras personas, a enfocarme en dar mi vida y dejar que tú te ocupes de mis necesidades. Quiero nutrir mi entusiasmo al estar en ti. Ayúdame a regocijarme en la esperanza, a ser paciente en la aflicción y a ser constante en la oración. Me entrego a ti. En el nombre de tu hijo Jesús. Amén”.

Follow God’s Call, Despite the Naysayers

“Why is the LORD taking us to this country only to have us die in battle? Our wives and our little ones will be carried off as plunder! Wouldn’t it be better for us to return to Egypt?”

Numbers 14:3 (NLT)

In 1979, I was finishing seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, when I felt God calling me to Southern California to start Saddleback Church. I told a friend who I respected about what I thought God wanted me to do.

He said, “Rick, that’s the dumbest idea I ever heard. You go out to California, and you’ll never be heard from again. It’s not going to happen.” He poured cold water all over my dream!

Any time you get serious about using your life the way God wants you to use it, some people will oppose you. Satan will throw everything he can at you to keep you from fulfilling your calling.

One reason why so few people actually fulfill God’s calling is because they are unwilling to go against popular opinion. If you want to follow God’s calling on your life, you must be willing to reject negative advice—no matter who it comes from.

The Bible says in Numbers 14:2-3, “Their voices rose in a great chorus of protest against Moses and Aaron. ‘If only we had died in Egypt, or even here in the wilderness!’ they complained. ‘Why is the LORD taking us to this country only to have us die in battle? Our wives and our little ones will be carried off as plunder! Wouldn’t it be better for us to return to Egypt?’” (NLT)

When faced with difficult circumstances, the Israelites decided they preferred captivity in Egypt to freedom in the Promised Land. Rather than doing what God had called them to do, they wanted to go back to their old way of life.

But one of their leaders, Caleb, had uncommon courage. He decided he was going to face their challenges with God’s help, even if he was scared. He was willing to reject negative advice to follow God’s calling.

In fact, Caleb didn’t just receive negative advice; he was also physically threatened. Numbers 14:10 says, “The whole community began to talk about stoning Joshua and Caleb. Then the glorious presence of the LORD appeared to all the Israelites at the Tabernacle” (NLT).

God’s presence saved Caleb and Joshua. That will happen in your life too.

When you go after God’s calling in your life, you’ll always come across naysayers. So make the decision now to reject negative advice. And count on God’s presence to see you through.

Entrégate Completamente en Amor

“No finjan amar a los demás; ámenlos de verdad. Aborrezcan lo malo. Aférrense a lo bueno. Ámense unos a otros con un afecto genuino y deléitense al honrarse mutuamente”. Romanos 12:9-10 (NTV)

Si quieres un cambio duradero en tu vida, debes llenar tu vida de amor.

El amor es lo único que puede cambiar lo inmutable. El amor vigoriza. El amor revitaliza. El amor renueva. El amor refresca. El amor es la fuerza más poderosa del universo, porque Dios es amor. No dice que tiene amor; dice que Él es amor. El amor cura lo que de otro modo no puede ser curado. El amor fortalece. El amor da energía. El amor capacita.

“No finjan amar a los demás; ámenlos de verdad. Aborrezcan lo malo. Aférrense a lo bueno. Ámense unos a otros con un afecto genuino y deléitense al honrarse mutuamente” Romanos 12:9-10 (NTV).

“Deléitense al honrarse mutuamente”. ¡Amo esta parte! ¿Sabes lo que significa? Esto significa que cuando la gente en tu grupo pequeño tiene una victoria en su salud, finanzas, o cualquier meta que se han propuesto, es necesario celebrar con ellos. Celebrar sus victorias. ¿Rebajaste dos libras más? ¡Felicitaciones! ¿Disminuiste tu deuda un poco? ¡Fantástico! ¿Tuviste un gran progreso en tu matrimonio? ¡Estupendo! La Biblia dice que nos deleitemos honrándonos mutuamente y que mostremos afecto genuino.

Aquí está lo más sorprendente: Dios ha diseñado la vida de manera que cuando ayudas a otras personas, Dios se encarga de tus propios problemas. Dios está mirándote y no te pregunta si “¿estás ayudándote a ti mismo?”, más bien Él pregunta si “¿estás ayudando a los demás?” ¿Deseas ayuda con tus metas? Empieza a ayudar a otras personas con sus metas. Muestra amor. Entrégate, hay sanidad en dar de lo que has recibido.

¿Recuerdas la historia de Job, cuando lo perdió todo? Él perdió su salud, perdió a su familia, perdió su riqueza. Lo perdió todo. Al final del libro, Dios le devolvió todo. ¿Por qué? ¿Porque Job oró por sí mismo? No, dice: “Después de haber orado Job por sus amigos, el Señor lo hizo prosperar de nuevo y le dio dos veces más de lo que antes tenía” Job 42:10 (NVI).

¿Por qué necesitas estar en un grupo pequeño? No sólo porque otras personas pueden ayudarte, sino porque tú puedes ayudar a los demás. Para que puedas orar por esas personas, y entonces Dios te ayude a ti. Entrégate a los demás en amor, y luego mira a Dios obrando en tu vida.

How to Overcome Discouragement

“Then the people of Judah said, ‘The work crews are worn out, and there is too much rubble. We can’t continue to rebuild the wall.’”

Nehemiah 4:10 (GW)

Discouragement is curable. When I get discouraged, I head straight to the book of Nehemiah. This great leader of ancient Israel understood there were four reasons for discouragement.

First, you get fatigued. You simply get tired as the laborers did in Nehemiah 4:10: “Then the people of Judah said, ‘The work crews are worn out, and there is too much rubble. We can’t continue to rebuild the wall’” (GW).

Human beings wear out. You can’t burn the candle at both ends. If you’re discouraged, you may not have to change anything major in your life. You may just need rest! Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is go to bed.

Second, you get frustrated. Nehemiah says there was rubble all around, so much so that it was getting in the way of rebuilding the wall. Do you have “rubble” in your life? Have you noticed that anytime you start doing something new, the rubble (the frustrations that keep you from working toward your goal) starts piling up?

If you don’t clean it out periodically, it will stop your progress. You can’t avoid it, so you need to learn to recognize it and dispose of it quickly so that you don’t lose focus on your goals.

Third, you think you’ve failed. Nehemiah’s people were unable to finish their task as quickly as originally planned, and, as a result, their confidence collapsed. They thought, “We were stupid to think we could ever rebuild this wall.”

But you know what I do when I don’t reach a goal on time? I just set a new goal. I don’t give up. Everybody fails; everybody does foolish things.

The issue is not that you failed; it’s how you respond to your failure.

Do you give in to self-pity? Do you start blaming other people? Do you start complaining that it’s impossible? Or do you refocus on God’s intentions and start moving again?

Finally, you give in to fear. Giving in to fear leads to discouragement. Nehemiah 4 suggests that the people most affected by fear are those who hang around negative people. To control the negative thoughts in your life, avoid negative people as much as you can.

Maybe you’re discouraged because of fear and you say, “I can’t handle this. It’s too much responsibility.” Maybe it’s the fear of criticism. Or you think you don’t deserve to succeed. Fear will destroy your life if you let it. But you can choose to resist the discouragement by saying, “God, help me get my eyes off the problem and the circumstances and keep my eyes on you.”

You don’t have to stay stuck in your discouragement. Ask God to help you figure out the reason for it, address it, and start moving forward in confidence.

“Rubble” (the frustrations that keep you from working toward your goal) can waste your time and energy and prevent you from accomplishing what God has called you to do. What is the rubble in your life?

El Cambio Requiere Comunidad

“Así como nuestro cuerpo tiene muchas partes y cada parte tiene una función específica, el cuerpo de Cristo también. Nosotros somos las diversas partes de un solo cuerpo y nos pertenecemos unos a otros”. Romanos 12:4-5 (NTV)

No vas a hacer todos los cambios que necesitas hacer, que quieres hacer, que te gustaría hacer, que planeas hacer o que deseas hacer por ti mismo. Si pudieras, lo harías. Pero no puedes, por tanto, ¡no lo harás!

La Biblia dice en Romanos 12:4-5: “Así como nuestro cuerpo tiene muchas partes y cada parte tiene una función específica, el cuerpo de Cristo también. Nosotros somos las diversas partes de un solo cuerpo y nos pertenecemos unos a otros” (NTV).

Dios ha creado el universo de tal manera que nos necesitamos unos a otros. Yo te necesito y tú me necesitas. La frase “unos a otros” se utiliza 58 veces en el Nuevo Testamento: Ámense unos a otros, cuídense unos a otros, anímense unos a otros, apóyense unos a otros, oren unos por otros, salúdense unos a otros, compartan unos con otros. Dios nunca quiso que fueras por la vida como un llanero solitario. Incluso el Llanero Solitario tenía a Toro. No estás destinado a ir por la vida solo. Que te cases o no, es irrelevante. Necesitas una familia espiritual, y necesitas estar en un grupo pequeño.

Me necesitas a mí, y yo te necesito a ti. Necesitas a las personas que te rodean, y ellas te necesitan a ti. Nos pertenecemos unos a otros.

Hay muchos buenos libros de autoayuda que te dirán lo que debes hacer, pero no te proporcionan las dos cosas que la Biblia dice que debes tener: El poder de Dios y la comunidad. Eso es lo que necesitas para cambiar de verdad. El cambio requiere comunidad.

En Saddleback, tenemos gente de todo tipo de orígenes. Hablamos 65 idiomas en nuestra iglesia y tenemos miembros de diferentes antecedentes religiosos, étnicos y nacionalidades.

Sin embargo, lo que tenemos en común es nuestro amor a Dios. Eso nos une y nos permite ayudarnos mutuamente.

Gálatas 3:28 dice: “Ya no hay judío ni griego, esclavo ni libre, hombre ni mujer, sino que todos ustedes son uno solo en Cristo Jesús” (NVI).

Why God Sometimes Says “Not Yet”

“You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. For, ‘In just a little while, he who is coming will come and will not delay.'"

Hebrews 10:36-37 (NIV)

If you’re discouraged because of God’s delay in answering your prayers, understand the delay is not a denial. Just because the answer or the miracle hasn’t come yet doesn’t mean God isn’t going to answer—or that he’s forgotten you or doesn’t care about you. It simply means “not yet”!

Part of becoming spiritually mature is learning the difference between “no” and “not yet,” between a denial and a delay. The Bible tells us, “He who is coming will come and will not delay” (Hebrews 10:37 NIV).

God’s delay may be a test of your patience. Anybody can be patient once. And most people can be patient twice—or even three times. God tests your patience over and over.

Does he do this to see how patient you are? No, he does it so you can see how patient you are. His testing helps you to see God’s power at work in you and to determine your level of commitment to him.

God tests you also so that you can know he is faithful, even if the answers you seek are delayed.

You may be going through difficult times right now. You may be discouraged because the situation you face seems unmanageable, unreasonable, or unfair.

It may seem unbearable, and inside you’re basically saying, “God, I can’t take it anymore. I just can’t take it anymore!”

But you can.

You can stay with it longer because God is with you. He’ll equip you to press on.

Remember, you are never a failure until you quit. Resist discouragement, and finish the race God has set before you.

Talk It Over

Is there a request that you’ve assumed God has answered with a “no”? Is it possible that his answer really is “not yet”? How does that change your view of the situation?
What do you think God wants you to do in the delay when he answers “not yet”?
What “delay” in your life is discouraging you today? Turn it around by remembering that God teaches patience during delays. Spend time in prayer, asking God to transform your discouragement into patience.

Sólo puedes Dirigir lo que puedes Medir

“Ninguno se crea mejor de lo que realmente es. Sean realistas al evaluarse a ustedes mismos, háganlo según la medida de fe que Dios les haya dado”. Romanos 12:3b (NTV)

El primero y más grande obstáculo para el cambio en cualquier área de tu vida es el orgullo.

El hecho es que nadie ha logrado la perfección. Yo no la he logrado. Tú no la has logrado. El Papa no ha logrado ser perfecto. La Biblia dice que no hay nada perfecto en la Tierra, excepto la Palabra de Dios. Todo en este planeta se corrompe a causa del pecado.

Pero caminamos por ahí tratando de impresionar a la gente y pretendemos que lo hemos logrado todo. El problema es que, si tú quieres tener un cambio duradero en tu vida, primero hay que evaluar humildemente tu estado actual y admitir que tú no lo has logrado todo. Tienes que admitir que tienes un problema con tus finanzas, con tu salud, o cualquier área con la que luches en tu vida.

Romanos 12:3 dice: “Ninguno se crea mejor de lo que realmente es. Sean realistas al evaluarse a ustedes mismos, háganlo según la medida de fe que Dios les haya dado” (NTV).

Estás dispuesto a preguntarle a la gente más cercana a ti, “¿dónde tengo que cambiar?” ¿Tienes el valor de pedirle a otras personas que sean honestos acerca de ti y contigo?

¿Por qué esto es tan importante? Debido a que sólo puedes dirigir lo que puedes medir. Si tú no sabes la medida de tu fe, no puedes crecer en tu fe. Si no conoces la medida de tu salud, no puedes desarrollarte y crecer en tu salud. Si no conoces la medida de tu situación financiera, no puedes establecer metas financieras. Si tú no sabes la medida dónde te encuentras espiritualmente, vocacional o en tus relaciones, entonces no puedes crecer en esas áreas. Sólo se puede dirigir lo que se mide.

También es importante registrar tu progreso de cualquier meta en un diario, un cuaderno de notas o como tú lo quieras hacer. Si vas a establecer algunas metas de salud, metas financieras, o cualquier otro tipo de metas, registra tu progreso a lo largo del año para que puedas medir tu crecimiento y tu progreso.

Evalúa dónde te encuentras para que puedas saber a dónde debes ir.

What to Do When It Makes No Sense

“I know that you can do anything, and no one can stop you. You asked, ‘Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorance?’ It is I—and I was talking about things I knew nothing about, things far too wonderful for me . . . I take back everything I said, and I sit in dust and ashes to show my repentance.”

Job 42:2-3, 6 (NLT)

Instead of always asking God “why” when you don’t understand, start trusting him.

For 37 chapters in his book, Job asks: “Why is this happening to me? Why are you allowing this? Why so much pain? Why so much discomfort? Why haven’t you answered my prayers?”

But in chapter 38, Job stops asking “why.” And God says, “Now I’d like to ask you a few questions.”

For the next two chapters, God bombards Job with questions that only God could answer. He asks things like, “Where were you when I made the universe? Can you explain the law of gravity?”

After two chapters, Job realizes that he is just a man and his knowledge is limited. Who is he to question God?

Job stops questioning—and starts trusting. He replies to the Lord, “I know that you can do anything, and no one can stop you. You asked, ‘Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorance?’ It is I—and I was talking about things I knew nothing about, things far too wonderful for me . . . I take back everything I said, and I sit in dust and ashes to show my repentance” (Job 42:2-3, 6 NLT).

What do you do in a situation where you can’t see the whole picture, things aren’t clear, and life doesn’t make sense?

Remind yourself of the things you know about God. Even while doubting, Job affirmed what he knew to be true about God: God is loving (Job 10:12), God is all powerful (Job 36:22), God is in control (Job 34:13), God had a plan for his life (Job 23:14), God would protect him (Job 5:11).

I don’t know what you’re going through right now, but I will tell you this: God is passionately and intimately aware of every detail. He’s paying attention to your every breath. Nothing misses God’s attention.

You may not understand what you’re going through, but you can still say this to God: “I know you’re good. I know you’re loving. I know you’re powerful. I know you notice the details of my life. I know you’re in control. I know you have a plan. I know you will protect me.”

Then set aside your “why” questions and trust God—no matter what.

Talk It Over

What are the things you know to be true about God? How do you know they’re true?
How do those truths help you trust God more?
Write down a prayer to God that affirms who he is and why you can trust him, and thank him for his loving attention.
