Blurb Time-The Scars Keeper
Below is the blurb for The Scars Keeper, my next YA novel. I was hoping to have the pre-order available today, but I can only set it up within ninety days of release, and we're not quite there yet. I will post it as soon as it's available! The official release date is November 16th!

Ten Things I Suggest you Never Say to a Romance Author
Some of the questions and statements made to me about being a writer never cease to amaze me. Below are comments I've received over the last few years that left me shaking my head in disbelief. I also list my replies, and what I wish I could say instead is after that.
I suggest when meeting or chatting with any author, you don't let these questions or comments leave your lips. Unless of course you enjoy being a brazen ass. Just kidding ... a little bit.
1. "You write romance novels?" Imagine snickering here. "Let me ask you this; have you and your husband tried all the sex stuff in your books?"
My reply: Insert clipped laugh. "That's a bit of a private question, so I guess you'll have to use your imagination."
What I'd like to say: Seriously? Can we rewind that? I'm certain you didn't just probe me about my sex life. Do you ask everyone you meet about theirs? I imagine not, and if I had to guess, you're not as lucky in the bedroom as I am seeing how you're creepy as f*$@.
2. "Wow, did you think of all these ideas or did you get them from other books?"
Imagine my eyes bugging out of my head. "They're my ideas." I snatch my paperback from their hand.
Let's see ... since stealing another writer's ideas is plagiarism, and since I'm an honest person, my answer is NO, I didn't get them from another author's book. I thought you'd give me a little more credit than that.
3. "I wish I had time to write a book."
"Yeah, I'm pretty lucky I have the time to do it."
I have a lot to say about this one. First off, lord, I can't count the times I've heard this one. I didn't know there were so many aspiring authors in the world.
Saying you don't have time is an excuse. Do you watch even an hour of television a week, play video games or hang out on the weekends having drinks with friends? Do you sit on the couch once your kids go to sleep and read or play on social media? Well, then you have time to write a book if it's something you truly want and feel creative and skilled enough to do.
It's called "making sacrifices" to do something you've dreamed of. I've made many sacrifices to be a writer. I do without a lot of things, and I don't see my friends or family nearly as much as I'd like to. It might take you longer than me to write your masterpiece, but you have the time if you choose to carve it out.
4. "Do you make a lot of money with this? Like is it enough to pay bills?"
"Uh ... my income varies." Yeah, I almost have nothin' on this idiocy.
Seriously? Do you ask everyone you know how much they make at their job? How much do you make weekly? Is it enough to cover all of your bills? What's your debt to income ratio? I'm really curious.
5. "When are ya gonna write a book about me? Insert chuckle. "I could be the next Christian Grey."
"That's clever. I'll think about adding you to a future book?"
Now you made me have to add horror to the list of genres I write so I can kill your creepy, arrogant ass off in some gruesome manner. Oh, and there will only ever be one Christian Grey! He's AKA Jamie Dornan, and he's sexy as hell.
6. "Yayee! I won one of your books. I so hope I win all of them."
"Congratulations, and thank you for checking out my writing."
Seriously? I've never met you, but why don't you give me a few bucks from your paycheck this week. Yeah, it's essentially the same damn thing.
7. "I'm broke, but I'd really like to read one of your books or have some of your swag. Could you send me something in the mail?"
"I'm sorry, but I'm not hosting any giveaways at this time. Watch my social media sites for the giveaways I frequently hold."
Entitlement ... Look it up in the dictionary. It comes before "JOB."
8. "You know what they say ... sex sells."
"It sure does."
Yeah, you're right. It's only because of the sex scenes in my books that I'm able to sell any of them. No creative talent going on over here. No plots. No character development. Just some good ol' humping in the hay.
9. "I don't read smut."
"My books are definitely not for everyone."
Sex is good for our overall well-being, and if you don't like it, then you're not doing it right, or you're doing it with the wrong person ... or the wrong toy. It can be something beautiful and spiritual that brings you closer to your significant other.
You don't have to be a prude, and you don't need to feel like a sinner for doing something that's healthy for your mind and body. Reading about sex can spark your libido and give you ideas for things to explore with your partner, but in all seriousness, I understand not everyone enjoys reading about it, and I respect that.
10. "It amazes me that you can write books. I'm impressed. Now I can say I know an author."
What I think AND often say. "Thank you. I thinks it's cool, too, but a lot of people have amazing jobs, like you for instance, and most don't get near the recognition they deserve."
What I typically don't reply with but think is: It feels amazing when someone says I'm creative and that what I do is special, but almost every job out there requires a skill that not every other person possesses. Someone might not be smart enough, funny enough, compassionate enough, brave enough, analytical enough, or strong enough to do a particular job.
Be proud that you have that skill or personality trait to do whatever it is you do.
Oh, and if you're not doing something you love, spend that one hour of the day when you're usually sitting on the couch and surfing on your phone to figure out how to make that dream come true.
Don't fret. Yes, I know I'm lucky, and I'm actually a nice person who loves to meet people interested in my writing. I also love to help others who aspire to become an author. No, I didn't make this list up. Yes, I have had people say all these things to me, and I made this post mostly for fun. I try to find humor in what others say to me since it's not every day they meet an author. ;)
