His Name is Moonlight First Look
I'm very excited to announce that His Name is Moonlight is almost ready for publication! In 2014, HNIM became a quarter finalist in the ABNA contest. It was very close to becoming a semi-finalist but fell after receiving one negative review. I am currently reading over the manuscript one last time before publication, tweaking as needed. At this time, I am undecided whether to leave HNIM as a stand alone novel or add more to Grace and Marama's story. I couldn't be more happy with how this story turned out and I can't wait for everyone to read it.
Enjoy :)
Deep in the forests of Northern New Zealand, lies a Maori village that's been hidden from the eyes of men for generations. Protected by rumors of ghosts haunting the forest, the village residents have been able to survive, undetected, since they were banished from their tribe, left to die in the wilderness.
European settlers brought many modern conveniences with them as they inhabited this land, such as guns and architectural know-how. At first, the Maori natives were not accepting of their new neighbors, but as time went on and as Maori men fell in love with English women, they gave in. That was until the Maori discovered a dark secret that flowed in the veins of their new residents. A secret that changed them from human to beast.
While struggling with the decision to attend college, Grace decides to join her family at their New Zealand mission. Along with the help of contractors, Grace's father has built a small village of newly constructed cabins for the Maori families to live in. They also bring in food, toiletries, and clothing.
A lover of photography, Grace ventures into the forest behind the mission to take pictures. She finds a small river running beside the forbidden Shadow Land. Grace spots a young deer--rare to New Zealand. She crosses the river and chases it through the forest. Here, she meets Marama, a boy who carries with him a mystery beyond anything she ever thought imaginable.
Immensely intrigued with each other, they agree to meet discretely to keep Marama and his family's existence secret. When the leader of Grace's village finds out who and what Marama is, they find themselves in a battle for their lives.
Enjoy :)

The Time Has Come

His Name is Moonlight is a ABNA Quarter Finalist. It received positive reviews during the competition, like this one.... "I'm very interested in where this story will go. I haven't read a lot of missionary stories that really rang true to me as a young adult novel. This does. Grace's voice is natural as a teen and even though she is on a mission trip, she is still a fun character. I like how she is juxtaposed between the rebellious preacher's daughter and doesn't seem like the overly devout preacher's daughter either. She is relatable. I'm so intrigued about the supernatural element that you discuss. Overall, this is enjoyable and I would like to read more."
As with my previous work, I'm extremely proud of His Name is Moonlight, even more so than Redemption because this novel took me into a world I wasn't familiar with. The trip was a roller coaster ride and the outcome was simply amazing. The research done for this setting was far more involved than with Redemption. I'm also happy to say that I had more help with editing than before. What a relief.
If you decide to take a chance on His Name is Moonlight, I sincerely hope you enjoy the experience.
