June’s Theme Is “Stormy Weather Ahead”!

I received the June box to review, and I couldn’t wait to open it!  I am a huge Fantasy/Sci-Fi fan, so Shelflove Crate is perfect for me.

Upon opening the box, I was happy to see how carefully everything was wrapped!  The card on the top thanks subscribers for subscribing, and I thought that that was a sweet touch.

Here is a picture of the thank you card and an exclusive postcard!  The postcard is a Blue Tornado postcard by Tithi Luadthong.  The artwork is gorgeous!

An item list was also included to tell you more about each item in the box!

The next item is a pair of storm socks!  These go perfectly with the theme, and they are so cute.  I am a huge sock fanatic, so I can’t wait to add these to my growing collection.  The socks are from Happy Socks.

The next item is a bag of Jasmine Green Tea in cloud shaped tea bags!  This tea is so cute, and I am amazed by how well it goes with the theme.  Jasmine Green Tea is my favorite tea of all time, so I can’t wait to try this!  The tea is from Tea Heritage.

Here is a look at these gorgeous handmade tea bags!  They are the cutest things I have ever seen.

The next item is a beautiful candle by A Court of Candles!  This candle is an exclusive and the scent is called “Stormhunter”.  The candle was made for the box to go with the month’s book!  I think that is so cool.

This “It’s Raining Cats and Dogs” bookmark was also included!  These magnetic bookmarks are very popular with book boxes, but this has to be one of my favorites that I have received.  This bookmark is from Craftedvan, and it brings a cute hint to this month’s theme!

The next item is an exclusive poster by @missphi on Instagram!  The quote is from the novel Red Queen, and it reflects the villain, Maven.  I love the beautiful artwork on the poster, and I have already added the poster to my book corner!

And now for the main attraction!  This month’s book choice is Roar by Cora Carmack.  The book came with an author letter, various bookmarks, and it is signed!  Usually, in book boxes, I just receive signed bookplates, but the signed book is an excellent touch.

Here Is The Synopsis:

In a land ruled and shaped by violent magical storms, power lies with those who control them.

Aurora Pavan comes from one of the oldest Stormling families in existence. Long ago, the ungifted pledged fealty and service to her family in exchange for safe haven, and a kingdom was carved out from the wildlands and sustained by magic capable of repelling the world’s deadliest foes. As the sole heir of Pavan, Aurora’s been groomed to be the perfect queen. She’s intelligent and brave and honorable. But she’s yet to show any trace of the magic she’ll need to protect her people.

To keep her secret and save her crown, Aurora’s mother arranges for her to marry a dark and brooding Stormling prince from another kingdom. At first, the prince seems like the perfect solution to all her problems. He’ll guarantee her spot as the next queen and be the champion her people need to remain safe. But the more secrets Aurora uncovers about him, the more a future with him frightens her. When she dons a disguise and sneaks out of the palace one night to spy on him, she stumbles upon a black market dealing in the very thing she lacks—storm magic. And the people selling it? They’re not Stormlings. They’re storm hunters.

Legend says that her ancestors first gained their magic by facing a storm and stealing part of its essence. And when a handsome young storm hunter reveals he was born without magic, but possesses it now, Aurora realizes there’s a third option for her future besides ruin or marriage.

She might not have magic now, but she can steal it if she’s brave enough.

Challenge a tempest. Survive it. And you become its master.

This bonus author swag was also included!  It comes with a card describing the different Stormhearts as well as a pendant featuring one of them.  I received “Skyfire” and it says that “Skyfire” is impulsive, captivating, energetic, and independent.

Final Thought: I am amazed by everything that was included in June’s Shelflove Crate!  The extras that came with the book are phenomenal, and each various item went with the stormy weather theme so well.  All of the exclusive items also made the box one of a kind, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.  Shelflove Crate is probably one of my favorite book boxes that I have received, and I can’t wait to see what they do next month!

Book Review: Yesterday by Samyann

Title: Yesterday

Author: Samyann

Rating: 5/5

Synopsis:

A tender love story pulls the reader back to previous lives and a time richly elegant. In modern day Chicago, deja vu draws together a handsome mounted policeman and the beautiful young woman who saves his life. Yesterday is also a harrowing tale of escape through the American Civil War, the heart wrenching love of slaves for their young white charges, and The Great Chicago Fire of 1871. In this historical romance, Mark fights through Amanda’s rejection to prove that she will love again as she once loved – Yesterday.

Review:

Yesterday by Samyann is a unique novel that focuses on time travel and reincarnation.  Much like The Time Traveler’s Wife, Yesterday explores romance and human connection as it passes the test of time.  Yesterday is a unique novel that covers many different historical periods in the period of one story, and Samyann’s descriptions of the American Civil War and The Great Chicago Fire of 1871 are raw and eye-opening.

Mark and Amanda are a young couple in modern day Chicago, and when they meet each other, they begin to experience déjà vu feelings with one another.  After experiencing such intense emotions, they decide to go through hypnotherapy to find out if they have known each other in past lives.  It is through this hypnotherapy that they experience the past lives that they have lived together.  The experience allows them to travel through time to who they used to be.

One of the best parts about Samyann’s writing is that she described the relationship between Mark and Amanda through the different couples that they were in previous lives.  Even though Yesterday focused on these different couples as they moved through time, the novel focused on the souls of Mark and Amanda and how they are star-crossed lovers.  This focus on the souls allowed the reader to follow the story easily and not get confused by the change in characters.  Reincarnation is one of my favorite subjects to read about in novels, and I was impressed with Samyann’s effortless way of moving between different time periods and keeping the bond between her star-crossed lovers strong.

Many times, with novels that focus on reincarnation and time travel, the writing can become confusing and disjointed.  However, Samyann had a strong grip on her story.  Her descriptions of her characters and the different settings were also spectacular.  My favorite part of the novel was when we were treated to a controversial time in American history that focused on slavery.  Samyann tackled this subject with grace, and she did justice to that dark side of America’s past.

But the most alluring aspect of Yesterday was how standoffish Amanda was with Mark.  Throughout their previous lives, and their current one, Amanda had a wall built up with Mark.  However, Mark never gave up on Amanda, and he continued to work for her love.  Having that patience in a character is so valuable, and you don’t find that often with people today due to everyone’s need for instant gratification.  Mark’s patience was admirable, and it drew me to his character throughout the ages.  Even though Amanda could be frustrating at times, Samyann made her characters lovable, and I rooted for them throughout the course of the story.  I don’t often swoon over romances as much I used to, but Yesterday won me over.  Samyann reminds me of the great Richard Matheson regarding his novels Somewhere in Time, and What Dreams May Come and I am so happy to have discovered her writing.

I am awarding Yesterday with a 5 out of 5 star rating.   Samyann is a magnificent author who can pull together a very involved story and tie it up neatly by the time the last page hits.  Her story was the most original reincarnation/time travel story that I have read since Richard Matheson, and I hope that she continues to dwell in this genre.  Historical fiction, time travel, and romance readers will swoon over Samyann’s Yesterday.

I received the June Standard Classic Subscription from Coffee & a Classic to review, and I couldn’t wait to try out this unique box!  I love how this box focuses on the classics because they aren’t recognized enough.

Coffee and a Classic comes in a fancy photo box inside of another mailer to protect it.  I like how the box is reusable so that you won’t just throw it away and waste it.

Upon opening the box, I was happy to see how carefully everything was packaged!  This extra care is always a nice touch.

This month’s box is based on Moby Dick!  I love this because I have never read Moby Dick and it is something that is on my bucket list.

This month’s coffee is extremely appropriate!  It is called “Moby Dick” and it is from Voyage Coffee Roasters.  I love how this coffee fits the book choice perfectly.

The next item is this metal, Moby Dick themed mug!  I like how it has an old-fashioned, captain feel to it, and it is perfect to use with the coffee.

The next item is this Moby Dick themed tote!  The quote on the bag is perfect, and the anchor symbol is classic.

The next item comes wrapped in this gorgeous, coastal wrapping.  The simplicity of it is beautiful!

The encased item is a handmade oil diffuser, and it is made out of clay.  The oil that came with it smells just like the ocean!  This is the perfect oil diffuser for my bathroom.

The next item is a package of salt water taffy in various flavors!  The different colored taffy matches the ocean theme, and the flavors are delicious!

The last item is this metal whale bookmark.  I love the whale tail charm and how the bookmark goes with Moby Dick.

Final Thought: Coffee and a Classic has already become one of my favorite boxes!  This box is so different from other book boxes, and I love how they focus on classics.  Even if you have already read the classic in the box, you are sent multiple items based on that classic that you can cherish!  Besides, who doesn’t need more copies of classic books?  I personally love collecting them.  But anyhoo, if you are looking for an old fashioned, literature based box, then Coffee and a Classic is a winner!  Even though it is pricier than other boxes, the items and curation included are well worth the cost.
