I received the June “Main Stage” Stage Gurl box to review, and I couldn’t wait to open it!  I have experience working in this field, so I was so excited to come across a box that caters to this population.  Stage Gurl is so original, and I love that they celebrate women and their sexuality.

Stage Gurl comes in a gorgeous pink box, and I love how the logo isn’t too obvious for those who like to keep their matters private!

The packaging of Stage Gurl is gorgeous!  I love the pink shreds and glittery tissue paper.  The design is very burlesque, and I am all about that!

The box comes with this pamphlet that describes everything included in the box.  This month’s theme is Stars & Stripes!  The pamphlet breaks the items in the box up into three different categories: Stage 1, Stage 2, and Backstage.  I love that creativity!

Stage 1

The outfit included in this box is this Spangled Stars Set!  It includes a tie bikini top, a pair of booty shorts, and a silver garter.  I absolutely adore the design!  It is perfect for the Fourth of July.

These star bead necklaces were included to complete the outfit!  I love how they add some bling to the lineup.

Stage 2

The next item is this Bitzy Long Lasting Lip Gloss Iridescent Top Coat from Sally Beauty Supply!  It is a gorgeous, simple shade that can be used over solid lipsticks or on its own.  It is perfect to add some pop to your performance!

This Magic in the Air Diamond Shimmer Mist from Bath & Body Works is the next item included!  I am a huge fan of Bath & Body Works, so I was so excited to see this in the box.  When sprayed on, this shimmer mist makes your skin look like a diamond!  It compliments the Spangled Stars Set beautifully.

Backstage

The first item in the backstage portion of the box is this Beyond Belief Green Tea Firming Mask from Sally Beauty Supply!  This mask helps to rejuvenate your skin, and it is perfect to use before a performance.

The next item is this Bitzy Liner Lip Pencil Sharpener from Sally Beauty Supply!  This is the perfect item to keep your eyeliner or lip pencils sharp and ready to apply.  It is a must have in every makeup bag!

Advil is a must if you have a headache before a performance!  These ready to go packs are perfect to keep in your bag backstage.

Book Review: Goodbye Days by Jeff Zentner

Title: Goodbye Days

Author: Jeff Zentner

Rating: 4/5

Synopsis:

Where are you guys? Text me back. That’s the last message Carver Briggs will ever send his three best friends, Mars, Eli, and Blake. He never thought that it would lead to their death.

Now Carver can’t stop blaming himself for the accident and even worse, a powerful judge is pressuring the district attorney to open up a criminal investigation.

Luckily, Carver has some unexpected allies: Eli’s girlfriend, the only person to stand by him at school; Dr. Mendez, his new therapist; and Blake’s grandmother, who asks Carver to spend a “goodbye day” together to share their memories and say a proper farewell.

Soon the other families are asking for their own goodbye day with Carver—but he’s unsure of their motives. Will they all be able to make peace with their losses, or will these goodbye days bring Carver one step closer to a complete breakdown or—even worse—prison?

Review:

Goodbye Days is a painfully relevant book for today’s youth.  The way that Jeff Zentner addresses texting and driving is raw, and each page of his book is filled with pain and heartache.  I found Goodbye Days to be a book that every youth should read – as well as adults – to further understand the perils that lie with those who choose to text and drive.  There is no way that you can read this book without shedding at least one tear by the end.

“Sometimes, the only way I have of dealing with stuff is to be around things more ancient than me and my sadness; things that will forget me.”

Goodbye Days is set in Nashville, Tennessee – Zentner’s own city – and his love for Nashville shines through the pages.  Despite the morbid storyline, Zentner manages to paint Nashville beautifully for those who have never visited (such as myself) and his writing made me fall in love with the city.  Setting Goodbye Days in a city that Zentner knows well helped him bring his story to life.

“Tears streak Jessmyn’s face like an atlas of rivers.  She holds a wadded-up tissue and dabs her eyes and nose, staring straight ahead.  I don’t understand why I’m not crying.  I should be.  Maybe it’s like how it’s sometimes too cold to snow.”

Goodbye Days focuses on Carver Briggs, a young man who was texting his friends when they got in a car crash and died.  Since Carver knew that his friends were driving when he texted them, he feels responsible for their deaths.  Soon the town begins to blame Carver for the deaths of his friends as well, and the media gets involved.  Zentner’s work addresses who should be held responsible for deaths that are the outcome of texting and driving and Goodbye Days made me think about these deaths in a new way.

“I wish it would rain.  Torrents.  So hard it would cleanse me of worry and trouble; so hard it would lift the stain of death from me and carry it to the rivers and out to sea.”

Goodbye Days is a novel unlike any other.  It tackles an issue that has rarely been addressed before, and it takes teenage death and relationships seriously.  If you are a fan of John Green or Jay Asher, then Goodbye Days is a great novel to make you think!

I couldn’t wait to receive my June InspireME Crate because I love how this box brings you a month’s worth of art lessons!

The box comes in a small parcel, and it has InspireME Crate’s logo on it.  The box is high-quality, and it can be used to store your art tools in!  I love boxes that I can reuse and not just throw away, so that is one of the perks of InspireME Crate.

Upon opening the box, you can see how the lid has a note about the June box on it!  The items are also wrapped in tissue paper and paper shreds.  I love the care that goes into this box, and it does not look mass produced.  I am all about that small business feel, so InspireME Crate never disappoints!

Adding to the small business feel is a note that lets you know who packaged your box!  Andreas packaged my box again this month, and I absolutely love working with him.

An insert card is included in the box to tell you more about each item included in the box.  I like that the card gives you the brand names of each item so that you can buy more of the tools if you like them!  This box is a great way to test out new art tools or build your collection.

Each month InspireME Crate sends you various art supplies, and they come carefully wrapped in gorgeous, glittery blue tissue paper!  I love the blue and white color scheme that InspireME Crate uses.  The care that goes into the wrapping of the items astounds me!

June’s theme is focused on watercolor, which is my FAVORITE medium, so I was so excited to see all of the watercolor tools included!  I received this liquid watercolor tube from Colore Watercolor in “Rose” and I can’t wait to use it.  I love this brand because you only need to use a small dab of the paint to get enough color when working, so it lasts a long time!

The next item is a watercolor brush pen from Ohuhu Watercolor!  Watercolor brush pens are so easy to work with, so I can always use as many as I can get my hands on.  The color I received is green, and it will go well with the pink paint!

The next item is this Chameleon Color Tones dual colored pencil!  I received the colors Lemon Peel and Grapefruit, and they compliment each another perfectly.  I love how these pencils pair the colors with complimentary shades, so you don’t have to go looking for another colored pencil that will match!

The last tool is this Arteza Water Brush, and I was so excited when I received it in the box!  You can use this pen by putting water into the barrel and coloring with watercolor or watercolor pencils.  All you have to do is squeeze the water to the tip and use it as a marker.  It is probably one of the most useful watercolor tools that are available!

InspireME Crate also sends you a sketchbook that you can use to complete the challenges included in the box, so that is extremely helpful!

And now onto my favorite part of the box!  Each month, InspireME Crate creates a WarmME Up book that gives you a month’s worth of art warm-ups to improve your skills.

The WarmME Up book gives you challenges to focus on during four different weeks!  The book also comes with a checklist so that you can check off each day that you complete a warm-up.

The back of the book also comes with a coloring page to help you improve your coloring skills!  This section also includes blank pages for you to work on whatever you would like to work on.  The purpose of this book is to just fill up the book with as much art as you can!

InspireME Crate also comes with a Creativity Booklet!  This booklet brings you art lessons, insights on featured artists, and information on various art techniques.  I love how this box teaches you about different art forms and strategies.

Here is an example of one of the brainstorming challenges included in the book!

This month’s TeachME lesson teaches you how to draw drones.  I love this sci-fi type drawing focus!

The back of the book includes information on Member Only Extras that are available to subscribers!  These extras are available online, and they can help you to expand your art.

Final Thought: I ADORE InspireME Crate!  This box brings you a full month’s worth of art lessons, and you can’t beat the price for that.  The owners of the box put so much time and effort into creating the different lessons and exercises, and I enjoy trying the different art tools out every month.  I also like that this box is perfect for artists of all levels, so everyone is included. InspireME Crate is an artist’s dream!

Indie Project Announcement: Pennywise – The Story of IT

Hello, Everyone!

I am so excited to announce a new project that is taking place on Indigogo!  This project is a documentary called “Pennywise: The Story of IT” and it is a documentary exploring the making of “Stephen King’s IT” and the legacy that it has left.  The documentary also chronicles Tim Curry and celebrates him as an actor.

Now, if you can’t tell already, I am a HUGE fan of Tim Curry and Pennywise.  Pennywise is my favorite horror villain of all time, and I was so excited when I saw that this documentary was being created!  However, the funding for the film relies on donations from Indigogo, and preorders are available on the DVD, Blu-ray, and accessories such as T-shirts and pins.  Even though the campaign did meet their monetary needs, there are a few DVDs and Blu-rays left to be picked up!  However, most of the items are already sold out.

If you are a huge fan of “Stephen King’s It” like I am, then this documentary is a must have!  It is also a great indie project to support, and that is something I am very passionate about.

There are only 3 hours left until the campaign ends, so make sure you get your orders in now!

Book Review: Loving Vivienne by Christina George

Title: Loving Vivienne

Author: Christina George

Rating: 3/5

Synopsis:

What happens when you fall in love with a man you can never have?

Vivienne has it all, a successful writing career, a hit movie, a life most women dream of. The only thing missing is someone to share it with. So when a handsome, successful doctor saves her from near death, Vivienne is certain she’s finally met the man of her dreams… Until she discovers who he is… or rather who his father is. The man who single-handedly tore apart her brother’s life. Can she put the past behind her? Will she choose family over love? Or will she lose the man she feels destined to be with?

Review:

Loving Vivienne is a roller coaster of a romance that features a strong female lead with a haunted past.  The novel follows the “forbidden romance plot”, and while this storyline is commonly used in the romance genre, author Christina George made it her own by creating vivid characters with a tantalizing plot.

I always love a thrilling plot to pair with my romance fetish, so I was so excited when I was sent this novel to review.  Loving Vivienne is a bit of a modern-day Romeo and Juliet story, but the stakes are much higher.  The thrill of this forbidden romance pulled me from page to page, and I enjoyed the vivid plot.  George made sure not to add too much filler to her novel, and I appreciated that.  Strong plots such as that in Loving Vivienne are hard for me to find in many romance novels.

Loving Vivienne follows a successful author, Vivienne, who has everything that she ever wanted except for someone to love.  However, she ends up falling in love with a doctor who saved her life, only to find that he is the son of a man whom she can’t stand.  The novel follows Vivienne as she struggles with her family, her past, and her needs and wants.  Vivienne is a multi-faceted character who I related to on a deep level.  George made sure to bring her characters to life with human flaws, and I appreciated seeing that in a romance novel.  None of her characters were too perfect.

My only critique is that sometimes the descriptions of the scenes and characters were overdone, and I felt myself skipping some sentences.  This detracted from some parts of the story, but I found the plot irresistible nonetheless.

If you are a fan of thrilling, high-speed romances, then Loving Vivienne should be the next book on your to be read list!

I received the June Once Upon A Book Club, and I couldn’t wait to dig in!  I love the concept of this box, and I have enjoyed the boxes that I have received from them before.

Once Upon A Book Club comes in a gorgeous, custom box!  I love how the box is designed to look like a book, and it creates an immersive experience.

Upon opening the box, you can see how the items are carefully packaged in newspaper shavings!  I love this bookish touch.

The first note that I pulled out of the box was this note reminding me not to open the gifts until I reach the page number that is indicated on them.  This makes sure that you get the most out of the reading and box opening experience!

The box also comes with this pamphlet that lists the live book discussion dates that Once Upon A Bookclub holds each month!  The pamphlet lists different book question discussions that coordinate with the monthly book, and they invite the subscriber to hop on Instagram or Facebook to take part in the bookish discussion!  I love book club boxes, so I think that this part of Once Upon A Book Club is awesome.

This month’s book choice is Love and Gravity by Samantha Sotto!

Here Is The Synopsis:

In this unforgettable novel for fans of One Day and The Time Traveler’s Wife, a young Isaac Newton falls in love with a girl living in modern-day San Francisco, defying the laws of physics to forge a seemingly impossible connection.

“Thoughtful, magical, and alive with romantic alchemy, Love and Gravity is a rare gem of a book, both intellectual and beautiful.”—New York Times bestselling author Sarah Addison Allen

Andrea Louviere is seven years old the first time he appears. While she’s alone in her bedroom, practicing her beloved cello, the light shivers and a crack forms in the wall. Through the crack, she sees a candle, a window, a desk—and a boy. In the eerie silence, the boy clearly sees Andrea too. Then, as quickly as it opened, the crack closes and he vanishes.

Over the years, summoning the boy becomes an obsession for Andrea. On her seventeenth birthday, she receives a three-hundred-year-old love letter from Isaac Newton. Andrea knows that Isaac will change the world with his groundbreaking discoveries; the letter tells Andrea that she will change him.

As Isaac’s letters intensify in passion and intimacy, Andrea grows determined to follow his clues to their shared destiny—despite a burgeoning romance in the present. Only when she discovers the way into Isaac’s time does Andrea realize that she faces a heartbreaking decision between what was . . . and what might be.

I had never heard of this book before, so I was very excited to receive it in this box!

The box always comes with an art print, and this month’s art print says:

“What was before is left behind, what never was is now” ~Ovid

I love the space print that goes with this art print, and the quote goes well with the book!

Before I Start Reviewing The Items, I Just Want To Note That I Did Read The Book And Open The Items In The Sequence That They Were Meant To Be Opened In.

This gave me the full experience of the box, and I loved how the items were literally pulled from the book!

The first item is meant to be opened on the 26th page of the book!  On this page, there is a specific quote that goes with the item:

“Diane fiddled with Andrea’s curls, her forehead scrunched as though the fate of the world depended on her successfully taming Andrea’s hair under a wreath of pink silk flowers.”

This flower crown matches the quote from the book perfectly, AND it is great to wear in the summer!  I love how elegant it is.

[image error] [image error]

The next item is in an envelope that is sealed with a wax seal.  This item is meant to be opened on page 61!  I love how antique the envelope is, and the wax seal is a nice touch.

The letter inside the envelope is double sided, and the first side goes with this quote from the book:

“Andrea set the phone down and reached for Mr. Westin’s delivery.  Tuna jumped onto the bed and planted all her eleven and a half pounds over the wax-sealed note.  Andrea tugged the letter from beneath Tuna’s hind leg.  Red wax scattered over her lilac duvet.  Andrea cracked the brittle seal and unfolded the letter.  The edge of its first page was torn, as though it had been ripped from a notebook.  It contained a single word written in brown-black ink.

Name?”

The back of the letter is also connected to this scene in the novel:

“A line scribbled across the top of its second page screamed a plea.

Andrea, stop. Pray, take a breath.  I swear to you, this is real.  I am the boy behind the wall and you are the girl behind mine.  Do not cast my words away.

You are seventeen and the time has come at last to tell you how everything began, how I came to love you above all else, and how you will come to love me.”

I like how this letter is taken straight from the book, to the last detail.  I am amazed at the care the owners of Once Upon A Book Club have put into this item.  It really made the reading experience come to life!

The next item is meant to be opened on page 81!  Here is the quote that goes with this item:

“Andrea peeked inside.  A local handcrafted silver-and-glass-beaded bracelet caught the sun.”

This bracelet is gorgeous, and I love how the bracelet can be used outside of the reading experience!

The next item is pulled from page 119!

This item is a watch with a gorgeous space print face, and an engraved saying on the back that says “For Isaac, Love, Andrea” with the infinity symbol!

Here is the excerpt that goes with the item:

“Isaac slipped the watch off his wrist and displayed its back.  Two entwined rings, the symbol for infinitiy, were etched on the stainless steel.  Isaac thrust the watch closer to the crack.  Andrea leaned forward and learned the engraving’s secret.  The infinity symbol was not make up of circles, but two loops of tiny, delicate words.

For Isaac.  Love, Andrea”

This is by far my favorite item from the box, and I am amazed by the details that are included on the watch from the book!

The last item is pulled from page 315 in the book.  Here is the connected excerpt:

“‘He gave it to me.’  He unfolded the handkerchief.  The name of the church they were sitting in, along with a date and time, were scribbled in the middle of the cloth.  ‘That’s how I knew you’d be here.’

Andrea stared at the familiar, miniscule handwriting on the handkerchief.  ‘Who gave this to you?’

‘The same man who gave me this.’  Nate slipped his pendant out from behind the collar of his shirt.  It gleamed like a mirror in the sun.”

Again, I love how careful the packaging is with this item, and the details are outstanding!  I don’t know how Once Upon A Book Club is able to create such specific items each month.  They are amazing.

Final Thought: I am in love with Once Upon A Book Club!  They never cease to amaze me with the detailed items that they include, and the reading experience that they bring.  Once Upon A Book Club really does bring books to life, and they are so unique!  You can’t find anything like this anywhere else, and I love that part of the box experience.
