Epilady Incident
When I was 13, I was on the run, trying to stay out of juvi, so I decided to change my appearance. The only way I could think to accomplish that was by shaving my head, so i tried to do just that... With a buddy's mom's frigging Epilady.
Now, an Epilady in the 1980's was one part bed-spring, and two parts Medieval torture device. The steel coil had a spinning thing, and it would basically tear hairs out by the root. (The sick bastard who marketed that Hellraiseresque piece of merchandise to women should have his scrotum shorn with one)
So, I crank the Epilady up, and the moment it contacted hair, it coiled my hair up into its springy spinny thingy, and stuck. By the end of the debacle, I had definitely changed my appearance. I had a huge chunk of hair missing, and I looked like kid number 2 from The Hills Have Eyes, or maybe a malnourished adolescent version of the Toxic Avenger.
3 days later I was in juvenile detention, and I carried that haircut for months on the inside.

Ordained minister
I just became an ordained minister.
Now, when I say: "Mmmmmm, I love these barbecue chips!"
And my wife replies all snarky-like: "Well, then why don't you marry them?" I can get up, and perform the ceremony right there.
"By the power vested in me by the online ordination thingy-ma-bob, I now pronounce you man and chips. You may eat the bride."

Review of A Dry Spell by Susie Moloney

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
First off, I want to say that I read this book while I was locked up in a prison down in Mexico. I had been starved, abused, and I nearly died. I finally managed to get word out through an inmate, and was saved by that. They don't let you die if someone knows you are in there!
Now, there were missionaries and do-gooders who would bring books to that foul prison, and they mostly ended up being used as toilet paper by the poorer inmates. Once I had been taken to a hospital, and treated for illness and a myriad of other issues caused by the mistreatment, I found myself in need of an escape.
Enter the books. I managed to get to the old chapel where the books were deposited one time before the tp-seekers, and one of the books I scored was A Dry Spell.
This book is very well written, and it took me on a journey that gave me a much needed escape from the horrors of that prison. The violence, drug use, and danger just kind of faded away while reading this story. I saw through Tom's eyes as he sought to save that town from the curse of a dark secret which was keeping all rain at bay, and slowly killing the town.
ABSOLUTELY awesome book, and I thank this author for crafting the exact tale I needed to escape a terrible time. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a great story.

Making an entrance
I have started doing the slow motion entrance whenever I have to go to the store. Right when the doors open, I go into slow-mo mode. Nothing cooler than the slow-mo entrance, unless you also have theme music playing when you do the slow-mo entrance. That is definitely cooler.
My wife is embarrassed, but I think that is because she isn't good at doing the slow-mo entrance.

Thoughts on spectacles
Watching the ball drop last night, and all the hullabaloo today, and all I can think is: All the money spent on this nonsense could have fed thousands and thousands of hungry people, paid for counseling for veterans or victims of abuse, created scholarships, built homes for the homeless, and so much more. All of that spectacle is basically just a condom, or a packet of ketchup from a fast food joint. Just a single use thing. That money could have made an indelible and lasting mark on this world, done some good, but at least it was a cool party.
Happy New Year!
All my best to you and yours. May the New Year bring you all the best of things. May your dreams be ever closer, and sorrow a forgotten thing.
Thank you for being you.
Respects,
