Monday ... Mary

Monday ... Mary
Sounds cool, right? Right! Okay, so what does it mean? It means that on Monday I will update you on what is happening in my Author/Book Nerd Life. AND....AND tell you what is to come.
So.........
Book 1: Melting Away the Ice is still schedule to come out on Sept. 13.....*insert panic attack* I am so nervous about this. However, I think once everyone reads about Lucas Sharp and falls in love with him as much as I have, it'll be okay. The cover is begin updated and the edit is still a work in progress, but I know once my nerves settle it will be great!
I am currently working on 2 different projects. One is TOP SECRET (which just means I will have to tell you later) and the second is, well, it's book 2 of Melting Away the Ice. Both are going well, but still in the early stages. I will keep you updated.
Then, there is my project with the GREAT LINDSAY PAIGE (who is truly the greatest person!) My LP has talent oozing off of her. Our Book 1: Breakaway is coming out Aug. 15 *insert a bigger panic attack* That's right around the corner. But, I can't wait for everyone to meet Levi and Presley. Seriously, this is going to be a great book.
On top of that we have begun Book 2 of that series. We are breezing right through it too. LOVING IT!!
Even though I am nervous about these projects, I am also equally happy! I like having a lot on my plate. I like to stay busy all the time and I hate to sleep.
I will keep you updated!! PROMISE!!

BIG BIG Announcement
Well, my life has been crazy (in a good way) these past couple weeks.
Let me tell you what has happened:
You all know that I am an avid reader and blogger. Long, Long ago I read a series called "Bold As Love" by Lindsay Paige. I fell in love with this series and began to chat with Lindsay on Twitter and Facebook.
Through our conversations we learned two things: we love books and hockey! Now, granted, Lindsay is a Penguins fan, but I will let that go.
Anyway, I approach Lindsay and asked if she would read my book. I was shocked that she agreed to read it!! I may or may not have fan-girl scream.
So, after a few days, Lindsay contacted me back and she said she really enjoyed my book. *insert another fan-girl scream* I was so happy to hear the nice things she said to me.
Then a few days later I received an email from Lindsay about writing a trilogy with her.
DO WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!
I may have fainted!!! No Joke!!!
Want to hear more about our BIG BIG BIG project.

Characters of Melting Away the Ice

Numerous people have been asking me about my characters. Such as, why hockey? where did their names come from?, etc etc
So, I thought I would answer all the questions at once and give you a little insight to the characters.
Why hockey players?
I love 3 sports: hockey, football and basketball. I have for as long as I can remember. When I was researching to do this book I knew that I would do a hockey player above any others. I wanted that tough guy but with some type of sensitive side.
Why a Chicago Team?
Simple. I was born in Chicago Illinois and raised in a small town outside of Chicago. I love my Blackhawks, Bears and Bulls. When I was creating a "team" I knew that it was going to be set in Chicago because that is home to me.
How did you come up with the book plot?
The book is based on my life. Well, parts of it is anyway. No, I am not a lawyer. Although I am a paralegal (legal assistant). I was previously married and no, I don't talk about it. However, Lucas Sharp's personality is my current husband. No, my husband is not a hockey player. In fact, he is the one that does not like hockey. But, he does go to games with me. I am more like Rachel in the book. I have an outgoing personality and (somewhat) smart. However, I added the supermodel looks. *wink*
Where did your characters and their names come from?
Well, it will be easier to do this in a list:
Lucas Sharp - he is the captain of the Chicago Eagles. His personality is just like my husband. The name Lucas came from my friend Jenifer's last name. Sharp came from Chicago Blackhawks Player, Patrick Sharp. He is my favorite player. Lucas' appearance mimics Patrick Sharp's but it is not an exact carbon copy.
Sara Smith - she is the lawyer and has a big secret. Sara came from my God-daughter's name. Smith, well, that is my last name. Sara has my hair and eye color, but she is much taller than me and thinner. Sara is the opposite of my personality, in every way.
Rachel Silver - Rachel is the name of a young girl that I tutor. Silver is my favorite metal. I know that is weird. Rachel's personality is like mine. Rachel's look, well, that just happened. Her smarts just came about throughout the story. It just felt right when I was writing it.
Max Crawford and Marc Perrier - their names came from various NHL Hockey players and the same for their personalities.
Jake Black - his name just came to me and felt like a "bad guy" name. His appearance is what I saw and thought a bad guy would look like.
Ava - her name came from friend. She named her daughter that and I just liked it. I gave her the supermodel look because I wanted to have Sara be jealous.
Victoria and Elizabeth - there was no real thought into these names or appearance
Charity Drake - she is an actual person. I used her personality and looks for this book. She is aware of this too.
Betty - her name came from a wonderful woman, Grandma B.
Charles - he was just someone I created.
Karla and Faren - they are my cousins and I wanted them in the book, somehow. That is why I made them lawyers!!!
So, now you know =)

Teaser Tuesday: Melting Away the Ice by Mary Smith
Oh it is about that time. It is Tuesday!!!
Here is a little teaser. Please remember that it is not edited .... yet
“I don’t think I have answered that many questions before about law,” I said as we slide into the booth. We had found a bar and grill not too far from the hotel that we were staying at. The seminar was more intense than I had anticipated. All the students were asking great questions but it seemed to never stop.“Me too, but some of the students were hot,” Rachel cooed.“Really? We were there to discuss the new statues due to the outcomes of the Supreme Court rulings not flirt with the students.” I scolded her in my lawyer voice.“Don’t speak Lawyer to me, lady,” she pointed her finger at me, “All I know is I need a drink and we are off the clock,” she tapped her watch and waved down a waiter. The waiter came by and we ordered drinks and appetizers. The bar and grilled was a little bit crowded, everyone was talking and laughing. We chatted about work, TV shows and little things. I was starting to feel very relaxed from the drinks, the food and the atmosphere, when the waiter brought us another round.“Sorry, we did not order these,” Rachel tried to give the drinks back. We had to do another seminar in the morning and we both did not want to have hangovers.“No, you didn’t. That guy did,” The waiter pointed over his shoulder and walked away.“Oh my stars,” Rachel breathed. Her eyes got wide and she grinned like a chasseur cat. “You aren’t going to believe this,” she looked at me with the brightest smile on her face.“Ladies, I don’t think you look like Pittsburgh fans,” a male’s voice said behind me. Instantly, I stopped breathing. I turned and looked up to see Lucas’ blue eyes looking back at me.“I am Eagles fan,” Rachel stated firmly, “but she might need some convincing.” She pointed right at me as she was speaking with Lucas. I whipped my head at Rachel and gave her the meanest look I could collect. It didn’t work because Rachel just laughed at me. “May I join you or do you have others coming?” Lucas asked me. I could not form words. It was on the tip of my tongue as he stared at me, but it would not come out. I did the next best thing; I nodded and slide over in the booth. Talking with him on the phone was easier than face-to-face.“Would you look at the time?” Rachel said tapping her watch. “Looks like I need to run and get some beauty sleep. You two should enjoy yourselves,” Rachel stood up.“What?” I almost shouted it. Oh, sure now I decide to speak. “Sara, I need to prepare so I can finish the seminar tomorrow,” she declared like I should have already know that.“Do you need to leave to?” Lucas asked me in almost a sad voice. “I –“ I am so confused.
“No, she is staying. She was not asked to do the seminar tomorrow. She is completely free. Her only plans were to go to the game tomorrow night,” Rachel jumped in. I knew she was lying because we both were supposed to do the seminar tomorrow and she was going to the game too.“You are going to the game?” Lucas was still looking at me. It was then I see a small smirk on his face and a glint in his eyes.“I, um, --“ Why can’t I say anything? I sound like a babbling brook.“Yep we are,” again Rachel spoke. “I am leaving now.” She looked over to me. “Try to form a sentence, sweetie.” She patted my hand and I feel my face flush. Leave it to Rachel to embarrass me with the truth. She then looked over to Lucas with a stern look. “And you,” she pointed her perfectly manicured finger at him, “I don’t care if you have been my favorite captain for the last 5 years, you hurt her and you die. Bye” She waved her fingers and walked away.

Teaser Tuesday: Melting Away the Ice by Mary Smith

So, I figured that my first post should be a teaser post!! What a great way to start off my new site, right?
So, here you go: (please remember this is not edited)
Just then another set of doors opened and several men came out. Well they aren't that bad looking, I thought, for guys missing most of their teeth. The crowd rushed towards them with excitement and sharpies. I stood there and watched as each player posed for pictures and signed whatever was handed to them. I never saw a player complain or even seem annoyed by it. "You shouldn't miss the opportunity to meet them," a male’s voice said next to me. I jumped with a start. I didn’t even realize that anyone was around me. It was then I saw the exit door was ajar and I could feel the brisk cold outside. "I am fine. I don't need to meet them," as I quickly looked up at him. He had to be at least 6'2” with dark hair but I quickly turned away. "Not an Eagles fan?” he asked. “Not a hockey fan," I stated back. I search for Rachel in the crowd. I spotted her bouncing all around getting a t-shirt signed she was wearing under her jersey. "Not a hockey fan. That can't be true," he scoffed. "Nope it is true. I do not like hockey," I shifted uncomfortably. In my head I was trying to figure out a way to run away from him. Will I always be this uncomfortable around all men? "Wow, I don’t think I have ever met someone who did not like hockey, especially at a hockey meet and greet,” I could hear the laugh in his condescending tone. I just nodded still looking anywhere but at him.
