we are about to get an info overload here, and i am already dying. in the next six weeks before the ep airs:
they’re gonna drop a new trailer, prob soon-ish. we’ve got whatever intro thing at the tab cinema screening on the 7th. there’s the bafta thing on the 9th, which i’m pretty certain will include the official ep 3 title announcement and cinema screening announcement. and then there should also be a tst trailer if that isn’t already the next trailer that we get. we’ll start getting actual press about the eps including new promo pics, we’ll get at least the first ep description, the episodes will get ratings, we’ll get the bbfc info about ep 3. we’ll get the dvd cover art. we’ll prob get more interviews and bts vids from the youtube account.
so much is coming and soon. hold on to your butts, friends.
MY ASS IS ALREADY ON FIRE.

Sherlock Season 4 Finale Coming SoonSynopsis
Fathom Events and BBC Worldwide Americas are thrilled to be partnering to present the Sherlock Season 4 Finale. Academy Award nominee, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Emmy Award winner, Martin Freeman, star in this riveting finale of Sherlock Season Four in theaters. Filled with laughter, tears, shocks, surprises and extraordinary adventures this is an episode you will not want to miss. Theater audiences will experience 20 minutes of exclusive, behind the scenes footage including interviews with Benedict Cumberbatch and more! One night only on Wednesday, January 18, 2017.
Running Time 1 hr 45 min
Release Date January 18, 2017
So it looks like we’re probably going to get a second Fathom Events experience in addition to the Abominable Bride encore this winter. I’m assuming the original page was taken down because it was published before the official announcement.
This also seems very much like it locks in the usual guess that the Series 4 finale will have its broadcast premiere on January 15th (two weeks after the Series 4 premiere), but that’s still not a date we’ve officially heard from BBC/PBS yet. Given past patterns, I wouldn’t be surprised if this means UK audiences will have the chance to watch the Series 4 finale “live” in theaters on the 15th, but that’s ONLY a guess.
Beyond that, I have no further info on this screening or where/when other screenings may end up happening. I just followed the trail from this Reddit thread.

Am I missing something? If this is the title why did they not reveal it earlier? It doesn’t seem to give anything away to me.

Sherlock (TV series) - A visual metaphor for a wedding
bug-catcher-in-viridian-forest:
John’s first encounter with Mycroft is a visual metaphor for a wedding.
Mycroft asks if Sherlock and John are going to get married.
MYCROFT: Might we expect a happy announcement by the end of the week?
![]()
Then Mycroft holds a book like someone who officiates a wedding ceremony. John is visually married to an invisible Sherlock.
![]()
The wedding from 101 Dalmatians for comparison.
![]()
Then he can see by John’s left hand, the one where the wedding ring goes, that John won’t stay away from Sherlock.
MYCROFT: I imagine people have already warned you to stay away from him, but I can see from your left hand that’s not going to happen.
![]()
Then a ring visually appears on John’s felt hand (being actually on Mycroft right one).
![]()
The metaphor is concluded at the end of the episode.
Mycroft says their names, like an officiant does before saying “I pronounce you…”
![]()
Sherlock and John walk away, like if they were leaving the aisle.

Outstanding!
Fucking hell. This seriously brightened up my otherwise very crappy day, thank you.
I’ve seen ASiP roughly 57 times and never noticed this visual metaphor. What a catch!
Amazing. I’m cheering and clapping over here.
LET MYCROFT OFFICIATE THE JOHNLOCK WEDDING
Intent. Planning.

”..what about “Sherlock” makes you keep coming back and keep going with that instead of having an ending?”
Well again, writing. It’s beautifully written. It’s beautifully shot. Benny’s an excellent Sherlock. The rest of the cast is phenomenal, so it’s just that. It’s playing a great, interesting character with layers, who is able to be surprising, who’s not filler, who’s not just a sidekick [for] someone who’s brilliant and you’re just there facilitating it. You get the chance for your character to be brilliant as well, you know? Sherlock and John both get a chance to be brilliant. What brings me back is the fact that it is very much based on what happens between Ben and I when the camera starts rolling. That is part of it. But I think what Ben and I bring to it is rather unique. I have to say, I’m pretending I’m not in the show. I’m pretending I’m watching it and going, “Oh, that’s quite unique.” I know it sounds quite self-aggrandizing for me to be saying this but it’s frankly fucking true.

Bus Stop Book Ends
![]()
John at a bus stop for Rachel’s episode: Change of costume, so two different scenes at this location. Meets up with same female, also in costume change, at this location. And….that BRIEFCASE. When has John ever carried a briefcase to work? It’s big and full. What is in the briefcase? Is this an arranged meet up with an MI5 agent? What documents are being exchanged?
![]()
Sherlock at a bus stop for ep 2: Sherlock filmed alone, and then with MP Lady in Red in identical scene. Sherlock focused on a letter/a document.
Is there a link between these scenes? Is Sherlock thinking about John’s actions in the previous episode, maybe the consequences? Has Sherlock found one of the documents in question? Is this Sherlock realising John is working with MI5? This is BBC Sherlock, there is always a balance in the story, a mirror, a foreshadow, equal parts that relate in a beautiful balancing act. Sherlock ‘falls’ for John and goes undercover in TRF, is John now doing the same for Sherlock? With the scenes at Vauxhall Bridge and maybe Vauxhall Cross, I’d say John is a HUGE RUG PULL in series 4.
Great thoughts! I’m so looking forward to this.
And there has been speculation that the woman at the bus stop in the scenes with John, filmed by Rachel Talalay, is also Sian Brooke (LiR). We never got a really good look at the actress at the bus stop (Talalay) scene. But even if she’s not Sian, she’s also wearing floor length dresses - like the LiR. And the bus stop (Talalay) features a poster for the Culverton Smith show (Business Killer) - CS, who will be the main villain in TLD.
We had all those tubes, trains and tunnels in TEH - then the bus in the transition from Victorian Baker Street to modern times at the end of TAB. And now all those busses and bus stops in S4…
If a double decker bus, crashes into us, to die by your side is such a heavenly way to die?
Bus stops are metaphors in film for waiting to die. Many films use the bus as the dying/leaving image, and so transition via a bus metaphor is very apt between TAB and season 4. Sitting at a bus stop could be the decision process in TLD, as we know it’s basically Sherlock’s night of agony and can take us to the religious analogy of Christ’s 40 days and nights. But for me the transition from TEH and underground trains to the above ground bus stops and buses in season 4 is the BURIED [read suppressed] desires of these two men fighting it’s way to the surface to become actualised. Tube trains below ground, deep, in the dark versus buses in the light, on the surface. it’s a great visual metaphor for subtext and the real relationship. Thanks @isitandwonder for the insightful comment.
Oh, yes, all those trains in tunnels as metaphors for suppresses sexual desire in TEH - that is now surfacing in S4! I love this. While reading your ideas @welovethebeekeeper I just remembered the lines from the trailer, spoken by Mycroft (presumably to Sherlock):
The roads we walk have demons beneath, and yours have been waiting for a very long time.
So, are Sherlock’s demons his sexual/romatic desires, at least in Mycroft’s eyes? Desires Sherlock has suppressed / negated / pushed aside for a very long time? I just read that the original Greek word daimon does not carry a negative connotation. This only came about with Christian polemics against pagans and their believes in spirits - like the general demonisation of sexuality by certain branches of Christianity?
@isitandwonder, @welovethebeekeeper: Great thoughts. And I just checked - in TEH we see John twice going from work to Baker Street, both times without a briefcase. So this must be something special here. And there is also the fact that at the beginning of TEH he is wearing clothes very similar to those in the bus stop scene.
And as for the sexual imagery: all those trains, tunnels, and the prolonged MP scene with upside down Underground trains etc. must be more than just visual shenanigans. Bus stops and Underground stations are highly symbolic, places of death, of being in limbo, floating between life and death.
We are on a roll here with this!!! The ‘happy’ fall over the waterfall in TAB and in series 4 the LANDING. Sherlock has to survive the landing now, and gladly we saw John was at his side when he jumped in TAB, so this is not a landing Sherlock has to cope with on his own. We are now ready for the ground to shake, the elephant to break, the rising of the subtext into very clear text, a rebirth. I think the long walk through London that we see in TLD is Sherlock’s rebirth, from the accepted view of Sherlock Holmes to the real Sherlock hidden with in canon; ‘yours have been waiting for a very long time’. History has been LYING about this DETECTIVE.
The fact that John is dressed similar to TEH opening sequences of John, may be a mirror of how John has returned to his ‘marriage’ in order to plot against AGRA. Agree on the christianity demonisation of homosexuality and the negative connotations of pagan symbols and beliefs. Mark is very sensitive to that issue and it will be in the show no doubt.
Oh, it’s getting exciting now. Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock.
