Goodbye, John. To the very best of times, John. I love you, John.

cloakstone69:

Not sure if anyone has transposed this twitter meta over to Tumblr yet, so here is the convo from three days ago, along with today’s s4 prediction:

So from this we can extrapolate a third conversation, 221 words long, ending with the word “John”….

Many, many thanks to @ascandalinthepolicebox for bringing this to our belated attention!!!

"A few times I’ve cried while writing something. And that sequence there [Sherlock’s best man..."

“A few times I’ve cried while writing something. And that sequence there [Sherlock’s best man speech], I was blubbing (sic). The sad stuff doesn’t make me cry when I write it, because I know I’m being manipulative. But a simple declaration of devotion in the manner of the man who simply decided, “That is what you do.” He’s read it in a book: “You state how you feel about your friend.” Right. Will do that. And he does it with forensic perfection. So it kills you when it happens. It’s tremendously powerful. And it’s very key to the character of Sherlock Holmes because he has no shame in admitting that he can feel that way. When he likes people, he’s perfectly happy to like them. It’s just that he doesn’t like very many.”

Happy Hallowe’en! Please enjoy this gifset of a wild Mark Gatiss in one of his favourite natural habitats; a graveyard.

Everyone needs a little Mark Gatiss strolling out of a cemetery in a nice suit on their dash!

Clues to John working undercover against Mary

inevitably-johnlocked:

consultingeastwind:

welovethebeekeeper:

It begins here:

image

It is decided here:

image

It is in play here:

image

In series 4 we get this:

image

An MI6 agent who happens to meet John on his commute to work. Twice [red jacket and purple coat] It’s a secret meet up. Possibly hands John a note. See excellent post by @queerjawn below. And yes, it is same actress.

http://queerjawn.tumblr.com/post/150318789460/i-think-alison-garner-is-a-long-skirt-woman-at-the

Finally we have scenes filmed outside MI6, we have reports from crew that a scene with Martin and Benedict was filmed inside the MI6 building, plus we have several guests actors in MI5 and MI6 roles.

Then for me the clincher:

image

John’s changed. Not only his hair style but his attitude; in many of the setlock pics we see a more confident John, presenting a certain new level of swagger. It’s the John who moves in front of Sherlock when Sir Eustace lunges at him in TAB. This John is on the offensive, he’s tired of defending, he’s going to sort it before Sherlock gets hurt again. Even this:

image

Although worried, John is planning. Expect him to reign havoc in series 4.

John is so fucking tired of watching Sherlock killed or harmed. He will avenge all that.

S4 might be the height of BAMF John Hamish Watson we’ll ever see. (S5 might be the height of Epic Lover John.) He has always been a man of action and strong moral principles. He will fix this domestic mess and drag Mary Morstan to the fiery pits of hell for trying to burn their hearts out.

John is smarter than he looks - pretty damn smart.

When John said, “We decide if we want you or not” it cemented Sherlock’s mind palace scene of “There’s always two of us.” John has aligned himself with Sherlock and established himself as a separate entity from Mary even before Sherlock decided whether Sherlock himself wanted Mary.

John will cause Mary’s “problems of [her] future” and he knows it is his privilege.

Even Mycroft can’t wait to punish Mary (MI-5 & MI-6 cast), but this is John’s game now.

Mary Morstan-Watson is not morally gray. She was never shown to have ethical dilemmas and make judgment calls on gradients of bad and less bad. She is evil, full stop, even when a situation does not require her to be.

S4 will show, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that Mary / AGRA is evil, so explicitly that only psychopaths will continue rooting for her as their poster girl.

YES!! John is the one taking charge this season, that I have no doubt of! And Sherlock is going to let him lead OR stand by his side as equals. John is a captain, doctor and soldier at heart, and he SURE AS HELL is not going to let Sherlock get hurt EVER again if he can help it. He’s MADE his choice, and that choice is to stand by Sherlock’s side, forever and always, just the two of them against the rest of the world.

John Watson doesn’t give a fuck about meeting the most dangerous man in an empty warehouse.

(John Watson doesn’t give a fuck series)

I appreciate how John speaks to Mycroft here. He does not explain nor does he want explanations. He responds very simply, and in a way brutally, to shut down and end each one of Mycroft’s comments. Then he takes charge and ends it.

I spent so much time being dazzled by Benedict it took me a while to genuinely appreciate the deeply interior work done by Martin.

I will always love Ben the most, but this show just wouldn’t be the same without Martin as his partner. His reactions are brilliant. I’m so impressed at how far he’s come in acting since The Office.

This scene is the main reason I’m so glad they scrapped the original pilot episode.

It’s great 1) because at first you assume Mycroft is Moriarty (if you have any familiarity with the Sherlock Holmes stories); and 2) Martin established John as tough and brave with a subtlety and simplicity that is easy to overlook.

John Watson makes this series for me. He makes it. I love everyone on this show, everyone, I do, but this version of John Watson, not just loyal and fascinated, but conflicted and struggling, constantly hungry for something he doesn’t want to long for, trying so hard to be normal and failing, a desperate beam of sunshine on the inside and tough, quiet, no-nonsense on the outside, he makes it. He’s this careful balance between the semblance of ordinary with this burning inferno of extraordinary inside him.

Never underestimate John Watson.

True. All the John Watson love.
