Title: Observational Failure, or: Seeing is Believing (link goes to ao3)
Writer: SilentAuror
Status of work: Complete
Characters and/or pairings: Lestrade POV, Sherlock/John, hints of Lestrade/Molly
Rating: General
Warnings, kinks & contents: This story has no plot, hahaha
Length: 8,745 words (just a short little piece!)

Summary: Lestrade is almost sure that Sherlock and John are together now. All the evidence is pointing to it, yet he just can’t seem to wrap his brain around the concept.

A new one from silentauror!

Is “Three Garridebs” already foreshadowed in TGG? The Broken Bicycle

(There is a meta that has been bothering me for months because it is complex and layered. I turned it into a meta speculation and please feel free to comment if you see something I haven’t picked up in these scenes.)

As we know from former metas, many think that the murderer Joe in TGG is a mirror for Mycroft because they were dressed in a similar sports gear. But this scene is extremely complex because the camera transitions and John’s placement in front of the camera walking as the scenes shift tell me there is more to it. As the cherry on the top, at the beginning we see an object that makes a cameo later on in HLV, the broken bicycle.

image image image

I already speculated about the broken bike and the state of John’s marriage here. However, the tie to TGG was still immature in my mind. To me Joe the murderer brother might represent a potential conflict in the coming seasons between John and Mycroft, possibly related to something that Mary and Moriarty cause. As we know Joe kills Westie by accident and is letting his sister Lucy (Lucy:light)  down forever.

The Partington plans was Westie and Joe’s secret that brought Westie’s end. And we also know how they use the USB for A.G.R.A.  That is why I wonder if the confrontation and a potential accident will be the Three Garridebs moment between John and Mycroft, an accidental wounding, while clashing with Mary and/or Moriarty. In Westie’s story, Lucy is completely out of the story so I wonder if Sherlock will find himself in a similar position.

Collateral damage? Broken Bike and broken house in the trash bin? The dialogues from TGG and the house number as 21A alluding to a sadness taking 221B over?

@sherloki1854 who does some fascinating canon deconstructions, wrote a meta on Mary/Mr. John Garrideb today which seems quite legit. I mean at this point I think most of the characters are overlaid with multiple stories so why not? Maybe Moran and Garrideb in Mary.

What it made me think is a meta I wrote a while ago on the possibility of three Garridebs being foreshadowed in TGG. It is above. If Mary is indeed written after John Garrideb like Sherloki1854 argues, then this foreshadowing is even more plausible. I am wondering if John will get hurt in a cross-fire between Mary and Mycroft. I guess, I really don’t want Mycroft to die. @wellthengameover also wrote about the possibility of a conflict between John and Mycroft.

Ok so someone has probably already posted about this and I just missed it…so forgive me.

BUT.

I JUST GOT THIS IS THE MAIL.

Which is great right?  Right.  Lovely book, high quality.  10/10 recommend.

BUT.

I flip to the first page and LOOK…HOW FUN!  A GAME!  You have to find the clues hidden in the pics!

The text says “You see, you just don’t observe…hidden within the illustrations are nine clues, essential to solving the crimes in each episode.”

Oh OK, let’s look at the clues for the fun little game…

Standard stuff…Carl’s trainers, the pills, the hound’s pawprint, the deerstalker, John’s gun, Mary’s wedding ring, the knitted cap…

Wait…

MARY’S WEDDING RING???

IS A CLUE TO THE CRIME COMMITTED IN THE SIGN OF THREE???

HOW DARE???

BUT GUESS WHERE IT’S HIDDEN???

Here’s a clue…

ANY GUESSES???

THE FUCKING POOL!!!

THE. FUCKING. POOL.

I CAN’T MAKE THIS UP!!!

IF MARY ISN’T MORAN I WILL EAT THIS COLORING BOOK.

Curious! Is this book released by BBC or is this an unauthorized colouring book? Just curious because wouldn’t that be even more damning if it had to go through the “approval” process with Mofftisson like “Sherlock: The Network” had to.

And if it is “canon”, I just absolutely adore how many fucks Mofftisson just don’t give anymore. They’re practically dying to tell us Mary is a villain (as if we didn’t already know, but….)

FUCK. ME. BETH’S POOL CONFIRMED?

Have you checked if it’s licensed by Hartswood or something, is the logo included or listed in the imprint?

It is official. The Sherlock twitter account has even promo’d it. (x)

Wow. This is pretty blatant! Guess we have confirmation that Mary was a sniper at the pool. But what does the “Z” stand for?

I haven’t seen any metas on this issue, and despite only being an amateur historian who’s into period films, I felt like it needed to be addressed. What is with the “Bride’s” makeup?

She is a) wearing heavy powder b) noticeable eye liner c) bright pink lipstick which is not well applied / has been smudged.

I look at her and I keep thinking about how in the older days, actresses wore quite heavy makeup. I mean she could have been a prostitute or something, but it looks like very dramatic theatre makeup. The more I think about it, the more I am drawn to the idea of her being an actress in the “Hemish, an ideal man” play. Up to now we seen the posters in the background promoting it and most likely, there’s a good reason for it.

^^^^^^^

Welp. Shut it down, we can all go home, this is the best shspesh theory I have ever seen and will ever see. I mean. If this is true - if ‘heimish the ideal man’ is an actual part of the plot - I just…you will never hear from me again because I will have exploded on my couch.

If she’s an actress, then she’s not really a bride, no? She’s wearing a costume. Playing the role that’s been assigned to her.

It’s the exact same headpiece, no? Just a different veil.

(edit via estherlune)

@gunshyvw

Ok, listen, listen, @madnina‘s tags just made me think of something.

#maybe the whole thing with the guns is part of the play

We get the mention of the abominable wife in the Musgrave Ritual, as part of a list of past cases, right?

Here’s the record of the Tarleton murders,
and the case of Vamberry, the wine merchant,
and the adventure of the old Russian woman, and
the singular affair of the aluminium crutch, as well
as a full account of Ricoletti of the club-foot, and his
abominable wife.

But what else do we get mention of? The Aluminium Crutch. It’s another story that isn’t told in ACD canon, BUT we get a version of it on John’s blog. And what’s the story on John’s blog? It’s an actor who accidentally kills himself with a stage prop while trying to frame someone else. In that particular case, it’s an aluminium crutch, obviously, but if you replace the props with, say, guns that aren’t supposed to be loaded…

It’s a pretty striking similarity at least, if this actress theory is true.

Not to mention this case is referred to twice in the show already - in THOB & TSOT

ALSO John wasn’t even there. Sherlock left voicemails and John transcribed it…talk about Sherlock’s POV…

And the murder victim was Sidney Paget XD

So they’re gonna off the illustrator…?

I might be late at pointing this out, but reading this theory made me immediately think of Sherlock’s quote from the trailer: “The stage is set, the curtain rises, we are ready to begin.“

^^ nice catch

To me her make-up looks ghostly. Ghosts are supposed to be the theme of the special. So maybe she’s not an actress, but a ghost?
