The Language Of Silence

There’s a story I love about Gautama Buddha – instead of the sermon his disciples were anticipating,  he sat before them in radiant silence…and finally held out a flower, as his entire teaching for the day. The truth is that words fall on different ears in different ways and therefore the Sage prefers to teach in silence – although he or she is simultaneously sending out incredible transformative energy that we ordinary humans can only try to imagine…thank you for sharing this, Harsh Luthar.

silence-is-the-only-language

Bhagavan Sri Ramana used to say that the highest spiritual teaching and transmission is only in silence.

True Silence comes when there is complete surrender to God without any reservation.

Then there is no room for anxiety, worry, or any other mental noise.

In this sublime silence filled to the brim with peace and contentment, the fullness of awareness spontaneously reveals ItSelf as the Universal Intelligence.

It is the Pure Infinite Being whose very nature is Bliss.

ESPECIALLY FOR MY READERS IN INDIA!

a0154d1588c1b8135252fc3d01e0e9faSeveral friends living in India have written to me saying they would so appreciate being able to buy my novels (Whip of the Wild God: A Novel of tantra in Ancient India and Krishna’s Counsel, the first two books in The Moksha Trilogy) in India. Well, it gives me great pleasure to announce that this is now possible!

Recently we had an unsettling experience with Amazon.in (Amazon’s affiliate in India) concerning print quality. This has not yet been cleared up. As a result, we warned readers not to purchase print books via that link. However please note that their e-versions are fine. Subsequently my friend did some research and came up with a self-publishing site based in India: Pothi.com, which delivers great print quality at a great price.

Voila, here are the direct links:

Krishna’s Counsel – https://pothi.com/pothi/node/189597

Whip Of The Wild God – https://pothi.com/pothi/node/189598

So, if you live in India and love Eastern spiritual fiction, do check out these books and spread the word…the following link contains all links (print & ebook) specifically for Indian readers – https://miraprabhu.wordpress.com/mira-prabhu-all-links/#indian

Greetings from Arunachala, Shiva the Destroyer in the form of a mountain of fire that burns all that blocks us from knowing that we are the immortal and blissful Self!

Natalie Goldberg on Writing What Disturbs You

Writing for me is the most enjoyable therapy…it works well with other therapies, of course, and in my case, the mix would be hatha yoga, meditation, and much much else. If you want to hook your reader, the best way is to be authentic – and in order to be authentic, one must speak from the heart, confronting all that we find disturbing and even shameful. Read Lisa’s great post here regarding her own process as well as Natalie Goldberg’s advice to bravely plunge into writing about all that is dark…i wrote a post on my own early process which you can check out too if you like: https://miraprabhu.wordpress.com/2013/09/27/quiche-coffee-the-morning-pages/

ZEN AND PI

Writing is and always has been my passion, in all forms, whether blogging, poetry, or, my newest endeavor, novel-writing. Like any art, it takes practice and dedication to learning about the craft from those who have come before you.

Each week I like to take a piece of advice from the greats, both living and dead, famous and not, and apply their lessons to my own work. In learning, I like to teach, and in writing, I like to share with you all everything I learn as well as everything I do.

This week I have chosen a quote from the American New Age author and speaker Natalie Goldberg, best known for a series of books which explore writing as Zen practice. A series I am very anxious to read.

natalie-goldberg-403-pxls-largeFrom Goodreads: “Natalie Goldberg lived in Brooklyn until she was six when her family moved out to Farmingdale, Long Island, where her…

Rescue ‘Fortress’ Protects Albinos From Human Hunters, Tanzania

Shocking!!! Rescue centres in Tanzania protect albino people from the vicious hunters who sell their body parts to witch doctors. Photojournalist Ana Palacios, visited the centre in Tanzania three times between 2012 and 2016 to find out more about the plight of albino people. Persecution of albinism is rooted in the belief that the body parts can transmit magical powers, however, they are also ostracised by those who believe that they are cursed and bring bad luck. The Tanzanian government has been forced to set up special centres to protect people with albinism from harm. Please, if you can, share this as widely as possible…the more caring humans who know about this, the safer those children will be. Thanks for this, alk3r!

The women who flee to the centre with their albino children also act as guardians for the other albino children who have been abandoned at the centre in Kabanga Refuge Centre, Tanzania, 2012.

Laughter the best medicine – Papal indulgences – Age and all its advantages!

ha ha ha…these are great! “Remember: You don’t stop laughing because you grow old, You grow old because you stop laughing.” Thanks for the laughs, Sally, they certainly keep me young!

Smorgasbord - Variety is the spice of life

1382305_762693387129330_8626934527626316646_nAfter getting all of Pope John Paul’s luggage loaded into the limo (and he doesn’t travel light), the driver notices that the Pope is still standing on the curb.”Excuse me, Your Holiness,” says the driver, “Would you please take your seat so we can leave?”

“Well, to tell you the truth,” says the Pope, “they never let me drive at the Vatican, and I’d really like to drive today.”

“I’m sorry but I cannot let you do that. I’d lose my job! And what if something should happen?” protests the driver, wishing he’d never gone to work that morning.

“There might be something extra in it for you,” says the Pope.

Reluctantly, the driver gets in the back as the Pope climbs in behind the wheel. The driver quickly regrets his decision when, after exiting the airport, the Pontiff floors it, accelerating the limo to 105 mph.

“Please slow down, Your Holiness!!!” pleads the worried driver, but the Pope…

The Italian painter Valerio D’Ospina converted the Big Apple into his main playground. We’re already introduced with D’Ospina’s paintings before, but New York seems to remain his main source of inspiration. Let yourself be immersed in his intense and realistic pictures below.

Equanimity

My friend Michael Safran is a rare being in today’s world – a true artist devoted to deepening his creative spirit…a lover of forests and mountains, wind and trees…check out his artwork here…

SKY BOUNDARIES

My dictionary simply says, “evenness of mind; composure”

It could also mean paying mindful attention, and keeping the right attitude.

This idea holds at the core of my creative process.  As my first post, and

as a way to get this blog rolling, I’d like to share a recent 2016 painting called

‘Equanimity’.  It is 30×24″ (76x61cm) acrylic on canvas.  Also, as an introduction

to my artwork and photography please visit my freshly updated website at mjsaf.com

Jal Mahal: Jaipur’s Submerged Water Palace

India is such an endlessly fascinating realm!!! Consider this submerged palace: “Jal Mahal is a curious structure. It’s not exactly a palace, because there are no habitable rooms to stay. Just a terrace garden where the Maharaja took leisurely walks. The palace is actually five stories tall, but only the top floor stays above water. The lower four floors remain mostly submerged when the lake is full.” Thanks for sharing, alk3r!

jal-mahal-2

Submerged in the waters of an artificial lake, in the “pink city” of Jaipur, in the state of Rajasthan, India, is the beautiful marbled palace of Jal Mahal, or “Water Palace”. Not much is known about its history, except the fact that it was constructed by Maharaja Madho Singh in the 18th century

DHARAMKOT

FB_IMG_1472401603075I dashed off this short poem 16 years ago, right after trudging up the mountain, even as snow flakes drifted down to earth. We were heading home, I and the three beautiful American friends with whom I shared a big home with a fantastic view of the mountains. Leopards and bears prowled the area and life could definitely be dangerous!!! I wouldn’t do it again, but I will never regret living on the knife-edge of existence, where my spirit transformed.

David Evans just wrote to tell me that Dharamkot is the current Feature Poem on the Poets International website (link below)…

DHARAMKOT

February 2000/Mira Prabhu

The long steep rocky road from McLeod winds upward

Until we three reach the path

That leads to our snow-bound home in Dharamkot.

Chloe stops to lick the snow

Off tall and silent winter trees;

Eli follows suit, then I too join in.

Three sisters of the heart softly giggling.

Enraptured by the silver stillness of a magical night

As delicate timeless starry formations

Hover not too high above our human heads In a clear Himalayan night sky.
