7 Spooky Tales from England’s Haunted Castles

England’s haunted castles…..spooky!!!! I grew up with ghost stories and there were many nights as a child I could not sleep for fear of what was lurking outside…or worse still, inside!!! My second novel deals with what in the East is known as a Hungry Ghost – the spirit of a murdered woman who seeks revenge…thanks for a great post, Heritage Calling, and to Chris Graham for pointing me here.

Heritage Calling

Many of England’s historic buildings and monuments set an inspiring backdrop for mysterious tales of paranormal activity, their rich heritage feeding into narratives passed through generations. This Halloween we’re taking a look at how tales enjoyed at this time of year, of witches, ghosts, vampires and ghouls are knitted into English folklore, making their mark on our culture and historical places.

Here are 7 spooky stories linked to some of England’s oldest castles.

The Vampire of Alnwick Castle, Northumberland

Writing in the 12th century, historian William of Newburgh chronicled how a former master of medieval Alnwick Castle would rise from his underground tomb and prowl the streets of the town at night, causing terror and disease. In panic, the local people dug up his shallow grave, revealing a bloated corpse which, when pierced with a spade, disgorged fresh blood, proving to them that it was…

The Beauty of Paris Through its Colourful Storefronts

You have to admit that Paris is tres cool…once, long ago, I was offered a free stay there if I would write seriously…I couldn’t give up my 9-5 job at the time, so regretfully declined…and now I don’t think I will ever go…so seeing what I missed is a bitter-sweet visual treat….thanks for this, Alk3r!

You may remember Sebastian’s brilliant photo series that focus on the floors of London. Now Sebastian Erras has collaborated with a print company “Pixartprinting”, to realize the ‘Paris Re-Tale’, a project which tells the story of City of Lights through its colourful shopfronts.

Give Up The Sense Of Doership ~ Sri Ramana

The enduring beauty and power of the Bhagavad Gita is partially due to the fact that it urged human of varying dispositions to seek their own highest Self each in their unique way: Therefore, always perform your duty efficiently and without attachment to the results, because by doing work without attachment one attains the Supreme. (BG 3.19).

Ramana Maharshi said the same thing in his inimitable way – that we must act, yes, but without the attachment to mini-me that causes all our misery…read Harsh Luthar’s profound post here…

Give up the sense of doership

Bhagavan Ramana says in Talk 41 (Talks with Sri Ramana Maharshi) that one should give up the sense of doership in order to be free from the bondage of birth and death. Bhagavan is saying that karma pertains to the body/mind. If we give up the sense of doership, the karma will go on or drop away. Either way, it is not our concern.

UNIVERSAL OSMOSIS: The Art of Symbolic Shape In Form

UNIVERSAL OSMOSIS: THE ART OF SYMBOLIC SHAPE IN FORM

MONDAY 31  OCTOBER THROUGH 4 NOVEMBER, 2016

HIGH COMMISSION OF INDIA CULTURAL DIVISION – NEHRU CENTER (LONDON)

Susan Griffith Jones is a fascinating woman and a great adventurer into mystical realms! In 2001, this young English woman decided to set down roots in both Nepal and India and began her journey into understanding the ‘Nature of Mind’ with the Himalayan Masters.

Gradually she began to transform her knowledge into the art forms of film, photography and writing for wider audiences. Her artistic documentary film, ‘Circle of Immortality’ depicts spiritual life in the Himalayas while also demonstrating varying layers of manifest reality through its purposefully designed layout of visuals, narration, music and timing of all these aspects.

If you, or folks you know might happen to be in London during 31st October through 4th November, make sure to drop in at the High Commission of India’s Cultural Division so you can enjoy her amazingly diverse exhibits.

On Healing Hearts, Souls and Minds

“You are here now.”

“I am here now.”

“We are here now.”

“You are not alone, we are in this life together.”

Read Janni Styles poignant post on her journey towards the light…yes, life can make us bitter, or it can make us better – always our choice. As Gautama Buddha’s first Noble Truth states, mundane life is suffering – but what we make of the ingredients dumped onto our plate is what truly matters.

JanniStyles1

A friend is currently seeing a psychologist for issues that stem from the way her childhood was virtually robbed from her, only to find herself in a catastrophic medical event in her thirties that further robbed her of many of her hopes and dreams for herself and her once so bright and promising future.

My friend and I share many things, sadly in this case because these things are all less than happy making. Someone recently asked me how I felt about my life and I said, after thinking on it for some time: “Ripped off.” But that’s not really the truth anymore. It is what happened to me, I was ripped off in many ways but I don’t feel torn apart or bitter over it. It just is what it is. Or was what it was. I am here now. We are here now.

My own childhood was brief…
