UC CEO pay boost to 960,000/year
UC approves raises for hospital executives
This post was updated at 1 p.m. to reflect approval of the raises by the full board of regents.
University of California Regents approved raises for two top UC Davis Medical Center executives today.
Chief Executive Officer Ann Madden Rice was granted a
raise of nearly $259,000, bringing her compensation to $960,000 a year.
UC officials said Rice was being recruited by another academic hospital
that was offering her a salary of $1.5 million. The raise UC is giving
her is contingent on Rice withdrawing her application from the other
hospital.

Nobel Prize-Winning Physicist Resigns Over Global Warming
Published September 14, 2011
| FoxNews.com
Dr. Ivar Giaever, a former professor with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the 1973 winner
of the Nobel Prize in physics, abruptly announced his resignation
Tuesday, Sept. 13, from the premier physics society in disgust over its
officially stated policy that "global warming is occurring."The official position of the American Physical Society
(APS) supports the theory that man's actions have inexorably led to the
warming of the planet, through increased emissions of carbon dioxide.
Giaever does not agree -- and put it bluntly and succinctly in the subject line of his email, reprinted at Climate Depot, a website devoted to debunking the theory of man-made climate change.
"I resign from APS," Giaever wrote.
Giaever was cooled to the statement on warming theory by a line claiming that "the evidence is incontrovertible."
"In the APS it is ok to discuss whether the
mass of the proton changes over time and how a multi-universe behaves,
but the evidence of global warming is incontrovertible?" he wrote in an
email to Kate Kirby, executive officer of the physics society."The claim ... is that the temperature has
changed from ~288.0 to ~288.8 degree Kelvin in about 150 years, which
(if true) means to me is that the temperature has been amazingly stable,
and both human health and happiness have definitely improved in this
'warming' period," his email message said.

More Obama Corporate Crony Capitalism

This is horrifying, that The President Who Wants Us To Love Him cares less about the security of the American people than his own endless money-grubbing:
White House Pressure for a Donor?
Sep 15, 2011 12:24 AM EDT
by Eli Lake
The Pentagon has worried for months that a project
backed by a prominent Democratic donor might interfere with military
GPS. Now Congress wants to know if the White House pressured a general
to change his testimony.
The four-star Air Force general who oversees Air Force
Space Command walked into a highly secured room on Capitol Hill a week
ago to give a classified briefing to lawmakers and staff, and dropped a
surprise. Pressed by members, Gen. William Shelton said the White House
tried to pressure him to change his testimony to make it more favorable
to a company tied to a large Democratic donor. The episode --confirmed by The
Daily Beast in interviews with administration officials and the
chairman of a congressional oversight committee --is the latest in a
string of incidents that have given Republicans sudden fodder for
questions about whether the Obama administration is politically
interfering in routine government matters that affect donors or

*Corporate Crony Capitalism - term coined by Sarah Palin in 9/2 Iowa speech:
Yeah, the permanent political class - they're doing just fine. Ever notice how so many of them arrive in Washington, D.C. of modest means and then miraculously throughout the years they end up becoming very, very wealthy? Well, it's because they derive power and their wealth from their access to our money - to taxpayer dollars. They use it to bail out their friends on Wall Street and their corporate cronies, and to reward campaign contributors, and to buy votes via earmarks. There is so much waste. And there is a name for this: It's called corporate crony capitalism. This is not the capitalism of free men and free markets, of innovation and hard work and ethics, of sacrifice and of risk. No, this is the capitalism of connections and government bailouts and handouts, of waste and influence peddling and corporate welfare. This is the crony capitalism that destroyed Europe's economies. It's the collusion of big government and big business and big finance to the detriment of all the rest - to the little guys. It's a slap in the face to our small business owners - the true entrepreneurs, the job creators accounting for 70% of the jobs in America, it's you who own these small businesses, you're the economic engine, but you don't grease the wheels of government power.
So, do you want to know why the permanent political class doesn't really want to cut any spending? Do you want to know why nothing ever really gets done? It's because there's nothing in it for them. They've got a lot of mouths to feed - a lot of corporate lobbyists and a lot of special interests that are counting on them to keep the good times and the money rolling along.
It doesn't surprise me. I've seen this kind of crony capitalism before. It's is the same good old boy politics-as-usual that I fought and we defeated in my home state. I took on a corrupt and compromised political class and their backroom dealings with Big Oil. And I can tell you from experience that sudden and relentless reform never sits well with entrenched interests and power-brokers. So, please you must vet a candidate's record. You must know their ability to successfully reform and actually fix problems that they're going to claim that they inherited.
Real reform never sits well with the entrenched special interests, and that's why the true voices of reform are so quickly demonized. Look what they say about you. You are concerned civilized citizens and look what they say about you

Raising boys in the city - your thoughts?

Barbara,
I don't know if you have time
to answer this or not... but I wanted to ask you your opinion about
raising boys in the city.
As you know, I have 5 boys. My (city) home on a
very large fenced lot is nearly paid for.
God willing, we only have a
few years left on our mortgage. We are starting to feel the need for a
3rd bathroom, a laundry room, and a little more garage space... but we
were also looking forward to becoming mortgage-free. As you know, it
takes a lot of money to feed a large family.
Something about living in
the city seems... restrictive to my boys. I know that the grass is not
always greener in the country. Somehow, though, I feel that there would
be more opportunity for work and more active play in the country. I
wonder if the city life is just a bit too.. cushy for my
boys.
At the same time, I know that God has
called us to be content and have promised to bless us in the country or
in the city. Selling our house would be a very large project. It needs a
lot of work and money to become desirable to a buyer. Do you have any
thoughts on raising boys in the city, maybe a preference? Thank you!Lisa
Dear Lisa -
Sorry this took forever. The wonderful thing about the country is how it affords boys the opportunity to roam. I saw it with my boys and also with my grandsons (Samantha has four boys and lives in the suburbs, but near some open space where they have scavenged and built and had so many adventures.
With the housing market the way it is, now might be a good time to trade up. If God's in it, He will sell your house even if it takes a miracle :)
You can also raise food and chickens and who knows what else in the country and with a bunch of boys, you'll have all the help you need.
I love the city - grew up in it myself. But I love the country more and think if you have a choice it's better for kids.
Where we live there is a much higher percentage of intact mom/dad families, stay-at-home moms, and respect and good manners - those are things money can't buy.
I can pose this as a question on my blog too, if you like
love,
barbara
Lisa asked me to post this to gather your thoughts. How do you city moms cope? Have any of you moved from city to country?

Elisabeth Elliot: In our weakness, He is strong
Anyway, I like what Elisabeth Elliot says:
Content to be Weak
What
weakness are you feeling today? The inability to manage circumstances
that cry out to be changed? Helplessness in the face of another's deep
need, or of evil you have to watch perpetrated on others you love? A
sense of inadequacy for some task laid upon you? Physical weakness or
pain? The need for power to forgive an injury or keep silence about
unjust accusations against you?Christ
has been there before you. Every form of human limitation He knew, and
out of that utter poverty we have been made strong. Yet, again and
again, in the life of each disciple, comes the experience of weakness in
order that we may live His life for others."We who share His weakness shall by the power of God live with Him in your service" (2 Cor 13:4 NEB).
This
sharing of His weakness is one aspect of the death of the cross, one of
the conditions of our discipleship, and hence cause for joy rather than
bitterness. For we walk the road, not alone, but with Christ, "well
content to be weak at any time if only you are strong" (2 Cor 13:9 NEB).
The mystery is constantly being worked out--strength out of weakness,
life out of death.

Obama Solyndra: Corporate Crony Capitalism

For years, conservative analysts have been warning that the so-called "green industry" is serving as an umbrella for savvy opportunists like Al Gore who see a way to cash in. The Obama Regime has granted billions of your tax dollars to companies/Obama contributors now bankrupt or on the verge. No skin off anyone's neck but ours.
But just imagine if a Republican were casught in such criminal activity. This is exactly what Sarah Palin pinpointed in her 9/2 Iowa speech: Corporate Crony Capitalism
From my summary at Pajamas Media:
Palin defined Corporate Crony Capitalism - not the capitalism of
small business and enterprise but of corporate connections and bailouts.
Good Ol' Boy Politics. "I've seen it in my home state" -- referencing
the government/oil collusion she cleaned up as governor of Alaska.
"You must vet a candidate's record for reform and ability to fix problems."
But reform doesn't sit well with entrenched powers. "Look at what
happened to you!" she reminded the crowd -- Tea Party Patriots accused of
being anti-American, terrorists, suicide bombers ... "hobbits."
What is President Obama's answer to today's problems? Spend more money.
He rewards corporate sponsors so they can add more to his campaign coffers so he can get elected and reward them again.
"Barack Obama has shown us cronyism on steroids."
Really, this president should be impeached, but that's not going to happen since he's our first black (well, half-black) president. Drudge is keeping up-to-date with these headlines:
SOLYNDRA the 'tip of the iceberg'?
Federal green energy loans could go to 15 more companies...
SOLYNDRA Employee: 'Everyone Knew The Plant Wouldn't Work'...
Dem Rep: 'I'm still waiting to see something that makes me concerned'...
Ex-CEO of 'green' group pleads guilty to skimming fed funds...

Chinese anti-life culture spreads to elderly
Chinese respect for elderly devastated after decades of population control
by Jeremy Kryn
Thu Sep 15, 2011 09:09 EST
BEIJING, China, September 15, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The deep
veneration for parents and the elderly that has been a traditional mark
of Chinese culture is rapidly deteriorating after decades of anti-life
population control measures in the Communist state, reveal a series of
recent surveys."Thirty years of anti-people propaganda have left their mark," said Population Research Institute
President Steven Mosher. "Like Hitler's campaign to eliminate 'useless
eaters,' the one-child policy has created the impression in the minds of
the young that the principal hindrance to China's development is too
many people."An online poll by Hong Kong-based Phoenix Television found that fewer
than 7% of 20,000 respondents would stop to offer help to an elderly
person in distress. More than 45% said they would turn a blind eye while
43% said they would help only if their actions were caught on camera.Read more at LifeSiteNews
