Contentment Is the Root of Gratitude
We’ve all met them at some point. The person who isn’t happy unless they’ve got something to be upset about. Gas prices. A slow traffic light. Road construction. The weather. Politics. Food that’s too spicy or too bland or too something. They walk around sporting a frown and a wrinkled nose at someone else’s choice of fashion or music. Even on vacation, it seems they just watch the world around them until the moment comes

Guest Melanie Snitker – Wrapping Up a Series
From time to time, I spotlight other authors as they share lessons to encourage us all. Today, I’m featuring Christian contemporary romance author Melanie Snitker and her Love’s Compass series…and revealing the cover of the grand finale. (Personally, since I’m in the middle of plotting a five book series, I’m encouraged to see how perseverance and hard work can make a dream come true.) When she published Finding Peace, the first book in the Love’s

Silence the Grating Voices
My life lately has been a scene from the animated classic Finding Nemo. No, I did not lose my child. (Although as I’ll share in a moment, I’ve been tempted!) Remember the flock of seagulls all clamoring “Mine. Mine. Mine.” endlessly? Well, around here, I’ve been hearing a lot of “Mom? Mom? Mom?” usually in a chalkboard-scraping, irritating, whine. Until I’m ready to scream. Or at least plug my ears and yell “la-la-la” while running

A Season of Change and Preparation
I’ve been thinking about—and blogging about—change for the past several weeks. And outside my front door, the world has been changing right along with me, because fall is a season of change. The leaves change colors, then drift to the ground. The air gets crisp and frost paints the blades of grass. It’s time to winterize the sprinkler system. Prune back the garden beds. Wrap up the harvest and stock the freezer. It’s nature’s way

Guest Mary Alford – The Mountains Are Calling
Dear readers, From time to time I ask other authors to share their stories of faith, hope, and love in order to encourage you. Today, please welcome Mary Alford. As a child, I grew up loving to go to the beach. Every vacation my family went on had to be to the beach…until one year when my husband and I visited the mountains. That was it. So long beach. I was hooked on the mountains.

Change is Hard Work, But Worth the Cost
Last week I blogged about how a tiny degree of change can alter the course of one’s life. Lest it sound like all you have to do is tweak one little thing and life will be awesome, let me remind us all that change is hard work. First, I have to be willing to change. That means being brutally honest about the consequences of the path I’m currently on. Until the pain of staying the

Significant Change One Degree at a Time
I’ve been reading The Little Things: Why You Really Should Sweat the Small Stuff by Andy Andrews…and getting both convicted and motivated with every page. Why? Because significant change can happen one small degree at a time. In the book, he tells the story of a time he and a few buddies sailed out to sea in search of a prime fishing spot beside an oil derrick. Despite relying on the boat’s computer navigation system

Dear readers, From time to time I open my blog to guests so they can share their own stories of faith, hope, and love in order to encourage you in your journey. Today, please welcome Brenda B. Taylor as she shares about her recent time in Texas helping family clean up after Hurricane Harvey. I spent the first week of September watching the devastating effects of Hurricane Harvey on Houston and surrounding areas on television.

Finding Rest in the Cracks of My Crazy
I wish I could take credit for the title of this blog post, but the idea of finding rest in the cracks of my crazy came straight from a Periscope by upcoming author Cara Grandle on her Writer’s Encouragement Show. (Seriously. Check her out every Tuesday 9 a.m. Pacific time for a boost of encouragement and a pep talk geared toward all sorts of creative people. End the commercial.
