Title: Pure HeartsAuthor: Jeannine AllisonGenre: Contemporary RomanceRelease Date: June 22, 2017
She gave me her kidney. I gave her my heart...Nicholas Blake learned a long time ago that nobody does anything for free. He’s felt the pain of lies and manipulations enough times to know that people only look out for themselves, and that all good deeds come with a price. So when he wakes up from a near deadly car accident and finds out a stranger is offering to donate her kidney, he’s immediately suspicious of her intentions. What he doesn’t expect is Iris Chamberlain, a beautiful woman with a big smile and an even bigger heart, claiming she just wants to help. The more time Nick spends with Iris, the more he starts to believe in what he always thought was impossible: a pure heart. But betrayal leaves a bitter mark. Will Nick be able to let go of his past and let Iris in? And will Iris be able to show him what it truly means to have a pure heart?
I fell in love with this book!! I waited until the last minute to read it because I have family in town, so I kept putting it off. I finally sat down and read it in one sitting and it was so refreshing. Ultimately, after having family in...I needed this book. I don't know about you, but my family is a little crazy and I'd like to give them away - ASAP!! After reading this I felt a little more positive that there's always a little redemptive quality in people. That's the whole message of this book - why spend your life being angry with others when you can forgive them? It's a hard concept for some.
The hero in this story has been dealt a rough road. A lot of people are but he sees everyone through distrustful eyes. His dad left when he was a boy and walked out of his life. His ex did something that was unforgivable and he can't find it in himself to forgive her or anyone who comes after her. Enter Iris...she's a breath of fresh air. She's also had a crappy life but she's chosen a different path, a different outlook. Instead of being distrustful of everyone, she chooses to give them the benefit of the doubt and to forgive. What a great world we would live in if everyone did that. When we meet the hero...he's been in an accident and needs a kidney transplant and Iris wants to be his living donor. The problem is - why would someone give something for nothing. That's the question to answer through the whole book and the conclusion to the question is - love. Love of people, love of self-worth, love of your Creator. It's so simplistic and yet it's complicated at the same time. There's a wrench thrown into Nick and Iris's love story that I predicted pretty early on. I don't think that it detracts from the story. If anything, it lent a real aspect to it. There are things that happen in life that are connected, woven together like the yarn in a crocheted blanket. I absolutely would recommend this to all my friends. It's uplifting, heart-warming and at times heart-wrenching. I cried for the children they were and for the adults they became...It's a book that you really need Kleenex for. The side story of the mother finding true love was welcome. So often, you have the bitter mother and this didn't have that. I would buy this for my mom to read, it's that good!
United Indie Book Blog - “This is a beautiful, raw and emotional story.” Bad and Dirty Books - “Pure Hearts has heart, intention but most of all a story to tell. A story I'm grateful I got to experience.” Becca (Goodreads Review) - “This book is perfection. I have nothing to say. Hurry up and read it as soon as it’s released! You don’t want to miss it out.”

Chiah Wilder is the author of Hawk’s Property, the first book in the Insurgents MC Series. It is a full length, standalone novel. Its release date is set for October 27, 2015.Always a lover of books, she began writing at a young age and continued through college with collections of short stories. Figuring she had to grow up and get a “real” job, her writing was placed on the back burner.
Her love of reading has always be center front in her life. Chiah’s love of bad boys both in and out of fiction has inspired her Insurgents series. She loves an alpha male whose softer side is brought out by a passionate, spirited woman. In fiction there are no rules or boundaries, and fantasies can go as far as the characters want to take them. Steamy, biker romances with rough, sexy bad boys are her guilty pleasure along with brownies, cheddar cheese, and movie marathons.
Returning to writing has been a dream come true. Writing and publishing Hawk’s Property has been an amazing journey, and she is happy to share the Insurgents family with her readers. She is busy writing her next book in the series.

He's my brother's best friend. When my parents died, a part of me died along with them. Nothing mattered anymore; everything lost its meaning. I lived my life in moments, good and bad, but somewhere along the way, I stopped living. We only had each other, and Cade, he did a hell of a job looking after me. They doubted we could make it; they doubted our resolve. Braxton has lived next door to us ever since we moved in with my aunt after the horrific accident. Cade took to him so quickly; they've been inseparable ever since. Their favorite pastime? Torturing me. But something has shifted between us recently, and I'm seeing him in a whole new light now. I know my brother will never accept it, but he's drawing me in like a moth to a flame.
He pushes off the doorframe, closing some distance between us. He is now close enough that I can feel his breath on my face when he speaks. There are droplets of water left on his chiseled chest, and he looks like he just stepped out of a magazine ad. The hairs all over my body are standing up, and I’m worried that I am visibly shaking. God, he is going to give me hell for this. He leans over so that his lips are dangerously close to my ear. “What’s the matter, Em? Are you feeling okay?” His breath tickles my ear and sends shivers down my spine. “What are you doing?” I ask, my voice shaky. “Nothing,” he replies, pulling away enough so I can see his face and then batting his eyelashes innocently. “I just love watching you squirm.” I push him away, annoyed. Within seconds Braxton has my back up against a wall and he is pressing into me as he trails his mouth and breath dangerously close to my ear. It takes a few moments for me to register what else I feel because I can barely catch my breath. Braxton is Cade’s best friend. I know he gets off messing with me…but he’s never taken it this far before and I feel completely out of control.

✮✮✮ Excerpt✮✮✮ “How does it work?” I ask. “The whole donation process.”She stabs a carrot slice, chews, and swallows. “Well, there’s this thing guys do when they’re horny. It’s called”—she glances furtively from side to side—“jacking off.”“I’m well aware of how the protein shake is made. What I mean is, are we talking about one of those little rooms you go into?” I ask, since what man doesn’t have an image of a jerk-off chamber? “With magazines or porn or whatnot?”“Yes, they schedule the donors for forty-minute sessions in them.”“I’m more efficient than that, but that’s good to know.” I take another bite and chew. I set down the burger. “So, a nurse or orderly would escort me to a special room, and then I’d need to drop my
drawers and whack off. Into a cup, right?”“A plastic sample cup. With a top,” she says, and I’m kind of amazed that she’s answering every question like a champ. No blushing, no stammering.“What do they provide for entertainment? Laptops? Computers? Or is it old school with Playboy?”“They provide pornographic material in printed form as well as video on a TV screen.”“Awesome. So I just choke the chicken in a room with a ton of other dudes going at it in their own rooms, too. Hand a cup to the nurse. She seals up the goods. Then, what’s next?”“They do tests on your swimmers.”“They’ll pass. Then you come in, maybe the same day, maybe a few days later?”“Same day. We’d have to time everything to my cycle and when I’m ovulating.”“Fine, so they undress you, prop you up on an exam table, and stick a turkey baster into you?”“You paint a lovely picture of the process.”I hold up a hand, waving her off. “Wait. I’m not done. You’re in nothing but a hospital gown. The doc tells you to put your cute little feet in stirrups, and they stick that baster up inside what I am sure
is an absolutely gorgeous and heavenly home,” I say, because if she can complement my tadpoles, I can say something nice about the paradise between her legs. She mouths a thank you. “After the boys
make the upstream trip, they send you home.” I mime patting her on the rear and then sending her out the door.“I think you’ve got the basic idea.”“And after that?”“That’s all,” she says. “That’s all I’d want you to do. I don’t expect or want any involvement. I’d have all the paperwork drawn up in advance saying there are no legal rights, responsibilities, or expectations of parenting, and no financial commitments required.”I’m almost ashamed to admit it, but that’s the clincher for me—the lack of involvement. If I’m ever going to raise a child, I’m damn well going to do it right. The whole nine yards, two parents, just like my mom and dad raised my brother, my sister, and me.Nicole isn’t asking me to sign up for daddy duty, though. She doesn’t want me to help with diaper detail or midnight feedings. She’s a friend asking for the help she needs so she can then do those things on her own.And helping a friend seems like something I should consider.Fine, she’s asking for a hell of a lot more than a dude to put together an IKEA TV stand, and those things are beyond Da Vinci Code-level cryptic. I’d like to see Robert Langdon decipher some IKEA assembly instructions. Good luck with that, Harvard symbologist. I like Nicole. I respect the dickens out of this woman. I want to take her request as seriously as she’s asking it. “Can I have a few days to think about it?” “Of course. Take all the time you need,” she says, then glances at an imaginary watch on her wrist. “It’s only my biological clock ticking.”

Author of Hearts Aligned (Self-published 2016), a military romance, Cheri Marie lives for a good read with an alpha hero and strong, stubborn heroine. After many years of starting books and never finishing, she took to Word in April 2015 determined to write and finish her first novel. Nights that turned into mornings and a whole lot of unruly characters she finished Hearts Aligned. Currently, she is in the works of publishing her second and third novels set to release the beginning of 2017 while writing three others set to release in the Spring, Summer and Fall later in the year. Residing in sunny Southwest Florida, she lives with family, five dogs, a cat, a tank full of fish, and a bearded dragon named Toad.

EXCERPT - "THE FIRST KISS"
Admitting I haven’t tried Sushi makes me realize there are plenty of things I missed out on experiencing. That’s not saying I would have necessarily wanted to try different things or even liked them once I had, but I never got the chance to make those choices or decisions.Aside from different foods, I missed out on a bunch of firsts too.“Hey, are you okay?” he asks, tilting his head to the side as he stares at me. “If you don’t want Sushi we get something else…”I shake my head.“It’s not that.”“Then what is it?”“I just realized I’m twenty-six years old and not only are there so many things I probably haven’t tried but there are things I never got the chance to experience. Things I pushed out of my head because I told myself there was no point in dwelling on it. Now that I’m free, it feels wrong, if that makes any sense. I mean I know I lost twelve years and everyone keeps saying I’ve got a second chance to make a life for myself, but all those things I missed…I can’t get that back. I can’t replace all the miserable moments with what should’ve been. I guess what I’m trying to say is…I can’t trade my painful firsts for the firsts I dreamed I’d have.”“Says who?”My brows knit in confusion and I blink as he turns fully, propping his leg on my bed.“Name one first you wish you could change.”“Why? You can’t change them.”“Maybe not all of them,” he says with a shrug. “But if we can manage to change a few that should count for something.”Biting down on my lip, I think about his suggestion.“My first kiss is something I wish I could change,” I say honestly, lifting my head to meet his expressionless face. “Papa,” I mutter, cringing as I say the name. “That’s what he made me call him,” I explain, watching Deuce’s jaw go rigid.“Rush?”I shake my head.“Yankovich,” he growls. For as long as he kept me, I never knew his real name. Hearing it now sends chills down my spine as I recall the first time I was kissed and how Yankovich’s lips felt against mine.“It was rough and not in a good way,” I confess. “It wasn’t done in a way to make me feel desired but in a way where I was scared of what would happen if I didn’t oblige. So, I kissed him back and hated myself afterward.”Muttering a curse, Deuce runs his fingers roughly through his hair before turning back to me.“Close your eyes,” he directs.“What for?”“I won’t hurt you,” he promises, evading my question. A foreign feeling erupts inside of me, one I can’t quite place and I find myself closing my eyes, not because he ordered me to but because I trust he won’t hurt me.Seconds tick by before I hear Deuce’s exasperated breath. Then I feel the mattress dip and as I continue to keep my eyes closed I subconsciously lean forward. His hands lift to my cheeks and the next breath he releases brushes gently over my lips. Then it happens.Deuce lays his mouth over mine. For a moment neither of us move as our lips stay locked on one another. Slowly, he then moves his mouth, taking my lower lip between his and giving it a gentle tug. Sucking softly, he parts my lips and a small gasp spills from my mouth into his.My heart pounds against my chest as he applies more pressure, making our kiss rougher in all the right ways. I’m not scared or trying to drift away. I’m right there with him, flying high on sensation and adrenaline. His tongue touches my lips, prying them open. Following his lead, I part my lips. He pushes his tongue into my waiting mouth and glides it over mine, tasting me—teaching me that some firsts can be rewritten.Pulling back slightly he pecks my lips once more and I open my eyes. Keeping his eyes fixed to mine, he licks his lips and drops his hands from my face.“There you go,” he rasps, as if what just happened didn’t shake the ground beneath us. Unsure what to say, I lift my fingers to my lips and watch as he leans his elbows on his knees. Silently, he stares into space before he slowly turns to me. His eyes immediately dart toward my mouth but quickly lift to my eyes and I wonder if he liked it as much as I did.“You still got those matches I gave you?” he asks suddenly.Biting my lip, I stare at him for a moment then lift my hips and reach into my pocket. Pulling out the book of matches my cheeks flush and I turn my palm over to display them. His lips quirk slightly as he slaps his hands against his thighs and rises to his feet.“Let’s go,” he says, reaching for the hoodie I draped across the back of a chair. “Is this all you took from Reina?” he asks, tossing it onto the bed and crossing his arms as he leans against the wall.I didn’t know I wasn’t going back there,” I reply, taking the hoodie from the bed. “Wait, where are we going?”“To get food.”“Raw food?” I question, slipping my arms through the hoodie before getting up from the bed. “No way.”“Won’t know if you like it unless you try it,” he retorts, raising an eyebrow “Gotta strike the match, girl,” he adds, tipping his chin toward the book of matches I’m still holding.“Are you daring me?”“Maybe,” he says with a shrug. “You accepting?”Licking my lips, I shove the matches back into my pocket and take a deep breath. If trying Sushi is anything like my new first kiss, then joining the land of the living might not be so bad. It might be scary but it’s a leap I’ve got to take.“Under one condition,” I say, stepping closer to him. Continuing to lean against the wall, he raises an eyebrow as amusement flickers in his eye.“You have to get me ice cream too.”“You like ice cream?”“We’re going to find out,” I tell him as I brush past him and walk into his room.Grabbing the keys off the table, he follows me toward the door and reaches around me to open it.“With manners like that it’s a wonder your room is a mess,” I tease as I walk outside.“My room isn’t a mess…it’s lived in,” he argues, slamming the door shut behind him.“I don’t have to wonder if you wear boxers or briefs,” I call over my shoulder as we head toward Wolf’s truck. “However, I’m not going to lie, I’m a little disappointed.”“Yeah, why’s that?”Pulling open the door, I climb inside and turn to him.“I took you for a commando type of guy,” I tell him before shutting the door. Standing in front of the car, he braces one hand on the hood and peers at me through the windshield with a dumbfound expression on his face.Something amazing happens then.Something genuine and natural.Something so unfamiliar to me but common to others.I smile. Then he smiles too and I decide Deuce has a great smile, one that if you stare at it long enough it can become an addiction. Isn’t that funny? I never knew a person could crave something so simple like someone else’s smile. I wonder if too much of someone’s smile can be bad for another person. I’d like to think not but what do I know—I’m the girl who never thought she’d smile again.“Looks good on you,” he comments as he slides into the truck.“What does?”“A smile.”“Yours isn’t so bad either,” I point out, realizing I’m still smiling. His lips quirk again as he pulls out of the lot and I find myself staring at him while he drives. The first time I saw Deuce, I didn’t think much about him. I don’t know if it was the drugs or something else, but at the time he was just another person. When you’ve spent most of your life surrounded by animals, you don’t take notice of people. They all look the same. They all act the same. You’ll expect them to hurt you and take from you. You give up hope that there are still people worth knowing. You give up on the good folks and lump everyone into one category. In the days since I was rescued I’ve been noticing things. I’ve been noticing people, and right now I’m noticing Deuce. I’m noticing there is a twang hidden underneath that raspy voice and every now and then it becomes more prominent.“Where are you from?”He looks at me out of the corner of his eye.“Caught that, huh?”“Were you trying to hide it because you’re not very good at it,” I reply.“Texas.”Not expecting that response, my eyes widen at the admission but I quickly recover.“Is it true everything is bigger in Texas?”Another quirk of the lips.Yeah, I was addicted.“I’m not touching that one,” he quips.Realizing the innuendo, I slap his arm and attempt to call him a jerk but I get distracted by the size of it.Things are huge in Texas.#DeuceIsLoose
REVIEWI’m going to try and keep my review on Roamer as brief an “I” possibly can, but I can’t promise anything. I started reading it at soon as it went to my Kindle. In fact, I was sure it hadn’t gone to my Kindle at all because I didn’t have the approved email address in there and immediately sent an email to say such. However, upon looking - there it was all shiny and pretty on my shelf…so begun my ride at two in the morning and continued on until seven with NO SLEEP OR BREAKS! I worked the previous day for twelve hours and went to the gym, then worked on my own novel. I was tired, but I couldn’t put the darn thing down and when I say that – I mean, I didn’t even take the dogs out to pee y’all! I inhaled every word, and my heart jumped from my chest at the prologue. An author once told me that you shouldn’t have a prologue in a book because you can just put that information in the book and be done with it…Ummm, that prologue is what will keep readers up all night shirking their responsibilities and basically ignoring their families. True story. So, the first two books were good…yeah? Well, the third book was…I don’t think there’s a word for it, but awesomeness comes to mind. It’s my favorite word! This book has dark, sometimes troubling topics that the author addresses at the very beginning and I thought that fit this book perfectly. Sex trafficking here in the Eastern United States and all over the United States is such an undertalked about matter. It happens way more than anyone would like and it affects millions of women and girls a year. That’s not just a number, it’s a statistic. I live in North Carolina where sex trafficking is a major problem, especially because of our Army and Marine Base that reside here. It’s easy to traffic women/girls in and out. That’s a fact and not fiction. This hit very close to home, so while reading this book I also had to put on my critical hat of whether the author was doing justice to Ally, the heroine as a sex trafficking victim. For me, it’s crucial that you get your facts right and the emotions better be spot on in a book like this. From the mental health aspect, everything Ally thought and felt was physically, emotionally, and logically sound. You do what you have to do to survive, and you shut yourself off. Some patients find it’s easier to quit fighting, to stop the insanity in the needle or the bottle…in this case, it was drugs. It’s a very real, plausible problem that doesn’t go away overnight. It’s an uphill battle on a rocky road…while you’re barefoot in the sweltering heat is what someone once told me. It’s always been in the back of my mind that it must be what hell is like.
Deuce is a hero who lives by the code of an outlaw. He doles out justice the way he’s been brought up, and we know that he’s going to be Ally’s saving grace. She’s his Bonnie to his Clyde. He thinks she a pain when he first meets her and yet he’s tasked with taking care of her. He doesn’t want the job and yet he does. He’s one of the bluntest heroes I’ve ever seen in a book, and for a drug addict who’s going through withdrawal and looking for her next fix, it’s something that’s really needed. At a pivotal point in their relationship, he just lays in all on the line with one quote that resonated with me, and I had it highlighted and bookmarked. It was “Don’t be the girl waiting for the light at the end of the tunnel. Be the girl who strikes the match.” It’s at that point in the book that the wind changes for the characters. Everyone has that happen in their life. A moment that you look back and remember. This was theirs. That doesn’t mean that everything is right in their world or that all things go according to plan…things seldom do. At times, the emotions made me want to step away, put the kindle down, take a breath and take my box of Kleenex and walk out of the house. I did none of those things because I was trapped in Deuce and Ally’s world. They held me hostage with their love story. The wind kept blowing for me to stay and follow them a little longer, to stick it out and I’m so glad I did for what a story it was!!
I couldn’t have been happier that I got to review this from Janine Infante Bosco because I know it’s always going to be a ride…I just never know what kind of ride it’s going to be. This was one heck of a journey that I got to tag along with Ally and Deuce on!

Melanie Blythe has a house, a career, and a cat. She doesn’t need a man. But she isn’t the only one who’s noticed the gorgeous cop down the street. When her faithless cat prances home from the cop’s house with a note tucked in his collar, it might be the beginning of something beautiful…or it might be Melanie’s death warrant.Detective Finn DeLuca is stuck at home recovering from a hit-and-run accident, and has plenty of time to wonder about the woman two doors down. There’s something mysterious about the beautiful brunette, and he’s determined to get to know her. But someone else has other plans. As the two grow closer, someone is watching—and waiting. Sooner or later, their chance will come. And the two lovebirds will never see it coming.
CHAPTER ONEMelanie It was the cat’s fault. She certainly never would have gotten involved if it hadn’t appeared in her life, much preferring to keep to herself and mind her own business. She wasn’t even a cat person, for heaven’s sake! She wasn’t much of a dog person, either, but now she had one of each, apparently. Fluff had belonged to Aunt Karen, and Melanie had made a deathbed promise to take care of the small white mutt. Who else would understand Fluff needed his food heated for exactly eight seconds in the microwave and would only eat from the Blue Willow dishes? Of course Melanie had promised to continue to care for the elderly little mop. Sigh. As for the cat, she’d seen the paw prints first. She was rinsing her dishes in the sink and noticing how much dust had accumulated on the bay windowsill when she frowned and leaned in for a closer look. There was definitely a trail of small animal prints in the thick dust and what looked like a butt print where something had sat and stared out the kitchen window. What the…? Melanie glanced across the room at Fluff, curled up in his little bed, and shook her head. “Some guard dog you’ve turned out to be.”
The cat itself showed up the night after Aunt Karen’s funeral. It must have come in through the doggy door, but Melanie was too busy crying to notice. She’d held herself together all day long through the funeral and reception at the church, and was finally able to allow her emotions free rein. It scared the crap out of her when the cat jumped on the table and began purring and rubbing it’s furry little face against hers, as if trying to cheer her up.She picked up the chair she’d knocked over and sat down to pet the ginger cat, who sat on the kitchen table staring at her. “Where in the world did you come from?” There was no collar. “You look like you’ve been through the ringer.” The cat had a torn ear and rough coat. She found a can of tuna in the pantry and added a small bowl of milk beside it as the cat made short work of the meal before leaping back on the kitchen table to lick its paws.“Make yourself at home,” Melanie muttered as she put the cat’s dishes in the dishwasher. “Doesn’t this bother you at all? This cat just waltzed into your home and took over.” She addressed the words to Fluff, who continued to snore in his little blue bed. “Apparently not.”She put it out before she retired for the night, but it was sleeping on the end of her bed the next morning. It left soon after breakfast, but returned later that night and every night for the next week. She started calling him Cooper, and finally broke down and bought him a blue collar and heart-shaped nametag. She’d made a vet appointment for him too, but they couldn’t get him in until next week. The note was attached to his new collar; she felt it when she pulled him on her lap as they settled in to watch Wheel of Fortune the next day. She didn’t really care for the game show, but it had become a habit when Aunt Karen was still alive and she’d continued to watch for some reason. “What’s this?” She unfolded the small piece of notebook paper, Pat Sajak forgotten for the moment.
Dear Nice Lady, I love my new collar and ID tag. Thanks for taking such good care of me and giving me a warm place to sleep every night. The nice man two doors down is writing this note for me on account of my not having opposable thumbs. He noticed me leaving your house this morning. He’s a pretty nice guy and I’ve been spending my mornings with him recently. I especially enjoy helping him read his newspaper. I like to lie on it and make sure it doesn’t get away, which is a very important job, let me assure you. Every once in a while I take a bite out of one of the pages if I dislike what is written there. This morning I felt compelled to bite the sports page when the man read the score from the Astros/Braves game and said a naughty word. I wanted to express my solidarity with him in his disappointment over the Astros’ loss. It is with some regret that I have to inform you that, while I like the color blue, I am definitely a female and feel the name “Cooper” may be a bit masculine. The nice man calls me CJ. What do you think about it? I like it a lot. Sincerely, CJ Catson
“What in the world?” She re-read the note and laughed softly at the way he’d written from the cat’s perspective. She bit her lip as she realized who the author must be. Two doors down to the left was an elderly widow, so it had to be the young guy two doors to the right, who’d moved in about six months ago. She’d only seen him from a distance, but she could tell he was good-looking: tall, dark hair, well built. He was a police officer—she’d caught glimpses of him in his uniform and he often parked his police car in his driveway—but he’d been gone for several months. She’d wondered if he moved or something. Actually, her writer’s imagination had dreamed up all sorts of scenarios that included him being deep undercover in a drug ring or organized crime syndicate. She’d seen several different young women coming and going when he was still there and figured he must be something of a ladies’ man. Should she respond to the note? What could possibly come of this? She shook her head and reached for a piece of stationary. Why should anything come of it? She would simply write back and that would be the end of it. She thought for a few minutes, then wrote quickly and folded it up before she could reconsider.
There. He could respond or not. It was totally up to him.

She loves him. She loves him not. When Cassandra Porter was seven years old, she fell in love with her next door neighbor and her best friends brother. Cass loved that boy every single day…until he broke her heart and all that remained were the pieces.Ten years and what feels like a lifetime apart, that boy—now a grown and sexy, warm blooded man—is thrust back into her life. He might make her temper flair and blood boil, but a few unresolved feelings are no match for the way her heart races when he is near…She drives him the good kind of crazy. Paxton Luke led his life with one thing on his mind: success. Friends and family come first, with no room for emotional attachments—not even with the neighbor girl, who's turned into a complete knockout. His sister's best friend. Emotions only lead to love, and love was trouble. They’re determined to fight this undeniable attraction to the bitter end. It’s too damn bad their hearts are about to get love drunk-- wasted on love.

Several questions are swirling through my mind at this hour of the night. For example, when I try to stand, is this little paper toilet seat cover going to stick to my ass? Are my feet numb from the champagne or the magenta stilettoes I'm wearing? Or why am I sitting in the bathroom stall of a bar, staring at the sticky, alcohol laden floor? Not to mention the most important question of the night, one I will never admit out loud, why I can't get the picture of the brunette, hanging on Paxton all night, plunging to her death from a cliff out of my head? Oh, hell. I need to stop. There's only one person who can distract me from my dumb, girl emotions. Laney. Taking my phone from my clutch, I tap Laney's name under my favorites. When it begins to ring, I stand up, wobbling a little while shimmying my panties up my legs and pulling the bottom of my gold mini dress back down from around my waist. A giggle slips past my lips when I think of the hot mess I am tonight. As Laney's voicemail echoes in my ear, I fall against the wall of the bathroom stall. "Dammit, Laney! I really wish you would've answered,' I hollered into the phone unnecessarily. The sounds of feminine chatter drifting from two stalls down from girls making one last dash to the ladies room before the countdown. I lower my voice, "Happy New Year. God, I wish you were here." I sigh. "You'd tell me like it is...you'd stop me from doing something stupid. But, you're not here, and when I do that stupid thing, I'm going to blame you. Just a friendly warning." Pausing, I stare at the writing on the side of the stall and admire the use of the words love and forever written in twirly letters full of hope. I'm sure the voicemail is going to shut off any moment, so I say my goodbye. "Anyway, I love you, Laney...like whoa and don't you forget it." Ending the call, I glance at the time before opening my clutch and dropping it in. I have five minutes until midnight. Pushing the door open, I wobble my way out, slowly making it over to the sink. I wash my hands, drying them before I freshen up with a touch of hot pink gloss and a fluff of my hair. One final look and I approve.
