My mother used to have a saying for everything.

“You can’t be pretty and lucky.”
She wasn’t pretty or lucky.

“You have to kiss a lot of toads before you find your Prince Charming.”
I kissed too many of those. Sorry, but Prince Charming isn’t in Hicktown, Kentucky.

“The good ones go to Heaven; the bad ones go to Hell.”
Guess I’m going to Hell.

“Hell is paved with good intentions.”
Surprisingly, that one is true. Why? Because ...

I intended to stay away from Calder Riggs.
I intended not to fall in love with him.
I intended to find a man who wasn’t a loser or a joker.
Oh well, I’ve never been afraid of Hell, anyway.
That’s why I’m Crazy Bitch!  




“That wasn’t polite,” he mumbled as they continued up the stairs.

“I didn’t like the way you were looking at Jewel.”

“I don’t look the way you look at Shade, Knox, or Rider.”

Crazy Bitch didn’t say anything until they reached their room.

“I didn’t like the way you looked at Jewel, so I said something. If you don’t like the way I look at other men, say something. I’m not a f***ing mind reader.”

Tossing his bag onto the bed, he angrily stalked to where she was standing by the door. “I don’t like it.”

“Then I won’t do it anymore. Satisfied?”

He placed his hands on the door, caging her in. “When I’m with you, I’m never satisfied. I always want more. I’m not even satisfied when I’m done f***ing you. I’m not satisfied when you come on my tongue and don’t beg me for more. I’m not satisfied that, if I walked away from you, you wouldn’t give a flying f***. You know what would satisfy me? You quit playing around with me like you’re expecting me to f*** up and give you an excuse to stop seeing me.”
“You are going to f*** up—that’s what men do!”

“Woman, you act like you’re made out of armor. The problem is, it may be protecting you, but it’s keeping me away.” He traced the line of her stubborn jaw with his thumb. “You don’t have to protect yourself from me. I’m so crazy about you that I’m jealous over every man you look at.”

“I don’t want you jealous.”

“What do you want?”

Her eyes shifted sideways. “I want you to say you like me.”

Calder was stunned at her simple request. She wanted what no one had given her before. His heart ached that the only thing she wanted didn’t cost a dime, yet to her, it was as valuable as gold.

“Anna-Kate, I like you a lot. In fact, I like you so much I’m falling in love with you.”

“You are?” The woman whom he had considered to be hard as stone gave him an uncertain smile.

“A hundred percent.”

“You can’t go any higher than a hundred percent.”
“No, you can’t. I guess that settles it then. I’m definitely in love with you.”

She gave a smile so radiant he had to blink to make sure he was seeing it. It was like a flower that had unfurled in the sunlight, trying to catch the first rays of the morning. There was also wariness, but a gradual openness that let him catch sight of the gentle soul she kept guarded within her. As if one careless step would trample the budding love she was feeling for him.

He embraced her so gently he heard her breath hitch in her throat.

“Do you know how long I’ve been in love with you?” she asked.

“How long?” he asked huskily.

“When I looked over the edge on Black Mountain and you pulled me back. I’ve never had anyone do that for me.”

He frowned. “What, keep you from falling off a mountain?”

“Usually, people want to throw me off them, not hold me back.”
“That’s what makes me different. I would have gone over the cliff with you before I would have ever let you fall.”









I've read every book in the Last Riders universe and this was good, but I can't wait for Riders story. I felt like his should have come first for some reason. I guess because we want it so much. Calder in this story is a recovering addict and I felt for him. He made his bed and he lays in it. Every day. He's made the mistakes and paid for them. He's watching his child grow up with his brother and his wife and he's made peace with it, but what he hasn't made peace with is Anna Kate or Crazy as she's called. Something he did or didn't do when he got high that she won't let him forget. At this point in time...cue the song "And then I got high" because it's kind of fitting.

What I enjoy is seeing all of the cast of characters...even Greer!! Who sends everyone on a scavenger hunt and that's the best part. Seriously, if you're a fan then this is worth reading.

I'm loving this alter ego that's being written because although it's Sawyer Bennett...it really seems like a totally different author. These books are so different and down home from her hockey series that they have a real heartwarming feeling to them. Yes, Jake is an Alpha male, but he isn't really like all her other characters. He's playful and solid. He's a good guy. He may be a Yankee and there because he wants something for nothing but he's at least honest about it. Laken is good at being a veterinarian in the middle-of-nowhere NC and she loves what she does. What she doesn't like? She doesn't like things that cause permanence or so she thinks. She's a likable character and the interaction between her and Jake was always top notch. I loved that this book took place in my home state. For this being the second book in the series, it's my favorite so far!! Can't wait for the next one.

I am prefacing this review with a warning for those that read this book - It's not for everybody!!! To tell the truth it wasn't really for me. I mean, I was freaking out...I lost some nails from biting them all off and shedded some hair. If you're going into this book thinking you'll come out unscathed - think again. The only thing I could think while reading this book was the true story of Adam Walsh and when he disappeared. I was 5 year-old and my mother wouldn't let me out of her sight...I'm 40 now and she read this book to write the review and had to step away and go..."I can't...it brings too many memories back." If a book can evoke those kind of feelings in a reader - then you've done your job. I picked up where she stopped and let me tell you, the authors outdid themselves. I was actually questioning whether psychologically they're right in the head lol.

Niko has spent 15 years looking for his friend, Aislin who disappeared without a trace. He became a detective and a darn good one, all in the hope that it would lead to him finding her. He does find her, just not where he wanted to...in a cold, damp, unearthed grave with torture marking her body. Not long after that another girl shows up and now Niko knows they're interconnected and he's not going to stop until the killer/rapist is found. 

What follows are several points of view. Some are horrifying and I'll warn you now -  they are explicit and uncomfortable. Some, I skipped over because is was just too much for me. I can read a psychological thriller, but I can't do the "explicitly so detailed that it makes you sick to your stomach" sort of books. So, those parts I went gently over. Overall, it was well-written and well thought out and they got the part of creepy psycho down to an art form! Just don't read if your under 18 would be my suggestion.

When you see this book and the way it looks...you think threesome weirdness, but what you actually get is a really good story told 3 different ways at one point. I, personally loved Grant Sanchez and am sooo glad he was in this book. I also loved Miller - you can't help but love him. He loves Emerson...she's his best friend, her first everything and he's the breaker of hearts. I can't wait until the next book. It was already put on Preorder on Amazon and EVERYONE lost their crap over it - why? Because it's Miller's story!! I'm not telling you any spoilers, I'm just saying that you shouldn't get peeved at the author for things like marketing...it's out of her control people!! It actually helped me while reading the book since I already knew who Emerson got with. I'm not one of those bloggers/reviewers that want to be shocked into a corner rocking back and forth after finishing a book because it didn't go the way I wanted. I totally get that some people like that - I'm not your girl! I had that in this authors last book and I couldn't read for almost 2 weeks because nothing was just good enough. If you want a book that tells a story, goes from past to present, and then has you laughing out loud in places - this is your book

I fell in love with a boy a long time ago.

I was only a small girl. Scared and frightened, I was taken from my home and held against my will. His father hurt me, but he protected me and kept me safe as best he could.

I ran the first chance I got and even though I knew he wasn’t behind me, I didn’t stop. The branches lashed out at me, punishing me for leaving him in the hands of a monster.

I’ve never felt such guilt in my life.

Although I survived, the boy was never found. I prayed for him to be safe. I dreamed he’d be alright and come back to me. Even as a young girl I knew I loved him, but I betrayed him.

Twenty years later, all my wishes came true.

But the boy came back a man. With a grip strong enough to keep me close and a look in his eyes that warned me to never dare leave him again. I was his to keep after all.

Twenty years after leaving one hell, I entered another. Our tale was only just getting started.

It’s dark and twisted.

But that doesn’t make it any less of what it is.

Twenty years ago



I’m so used to this room.  I don’t know how long it’s been, but I don’t bother to count the days anymore.  I don’t hope for Mama to come find me anymore.  I know it’s useless now, and it only makes me more upset.

The only solace I have is lying beside me.  I speak without thinking, just saying what’s on my mind to break up the silence in the cold room.  
        “I wish I were a bird.”  I blink at the faint light shining through the small window so high up on the cinder block wall.  “Then I could fly away.”  My voice lowers to nearly a whisper and I turn on the hard ground, facing the boy at my side.  I tuck my arm under my head and swallow the lump in my throat as I avoid his gaze.  It’s such a serious look in his light gray eyes.  I can hardly stand the chill that runs through me.
Some days I think he’s angry with me.  I can’t shake the thought that he hates me; that he hates being stuck here with me, both of us helpless and at the hands of his heartless father.

“Both of us.”  I clear my throat and chance a look up at him as I add, “I mean I wish we were both birds.”  I turn to gesture toward the far wall as I explain, “So we could fly through that window.”

The boy smiles at me, although I don’t think it’s genuine.  “But it’s closed,” he says in a voice so rough and low it makes goosebumps spread across my skin.  He clears his own throat, propping up his head in his hand and leaning on his elbow to look down at me.  My heart does a weird flip in my chest, fluttering when he leans closer to me.  I can feel the heat of his body.  He’s older than me.  He looks it, too.  I feel my cheeks heat with a blush and I look away, turning back to the window and pulling at the thin gown I have on.  It’s not enough to keep me warm down here and I know if I were just a bit closer to the boy, I’d be more comfortable, but I keep my distance.
“Well, what animal then?” I ask the boy, curling on my side and tucking both arms beneath my head.

He’s quiet for a moment, but then he answers, “A wolf could break it.”

I resist the urge to turn to face him, closing my eyes as they roll and a small smile forms on my lips.  A wolf could never fit through that window.

I decide to play along, feeling a warmth run through me as I hear him scoot closer to me.  He never touches me, but he likes to be close to me.  And I like it too although I don’t tell him.  “Well, you be a wolf and break the window, and I’ll be a bird.  Together we can run away.”

“I saw a wolf kill a bird once on TV,” he says, but the boy’s voice is devoid of emotion and the shock of what he said makes me turn to face him, sitting up and pulling my knees into my chest.

“Why would a wolf do that?”  I feel my brows pinch and my lips turn down; I know it’s obvious I’m horrified from what he said, and it only makes him laugh.
He shrugs his shoulders and picks at a spot on the concrete floor, a satisfied smirk on his lips.  Something about the look on his face makes my heart do that fluttering motion again and I find myself inching forward, my toes barely touching his thigh.  But we both notice that they touch.

“A wolf doesn’t have any reason to hurt a bird.”  I stare at him, but he still doesn’t look up at me.  “I don’t understand.”

The boy tilts his head to look at me and this time, the expression is something I’ve never seen before.  There’s a rawness in the light gray flecks, a heat on the outer edge where his eyes get darker.  Almost like a flicker of a flame giving his gaze an intensity that makes my body freeze, but not with a coldness, with a burning heat.

“I think he did it,” the boy starts to say, licking his lower lip and staring right through me, not caring that I can’t even breathe when he looks at me like that, “I think he did it just because he wanted to.”




This was a psychological mind twist of a book that you won't mind reading!! I loved absolutely every moment of it. I WILL NOT GIVE ANYTHING AWAY!! Seriously, you would hate me if I did. I will say that from the first book I read that Willow wrote to this one - she has grown leaps and bounds. The characters were well-fleshed out and the plot....there was a plot y'all!! I did not want it to end. I was sad when I read the last page, but alas all good things must come to an end. Great job!!

I love Harper Sloan and I love the Corps Security series...so this series was a little different for me. It had the Alpha make but it had a BDSM quality to it. Shane and Nikki were good characters in the other books, but I struggled with their characters in this book. It was almost like they weren't true to themselves in this. I really felt no backstory on this. Nikki has some weird Tourettes going on with her cute saying but otherwise I was left scratching my head. I loved and what saved everything was seeing Maddox and everyone else. Gosh, I miss them all!! For that it was 4 stars to just see Axel. So if you're a fan you'll get this definitely!! If you're starting out...then start at the beginning.
