Matteo was my best friend— my person. He’d been my armor since we were seven years old. Although many in the family speculated our relationship was more than a genuine friendship, as our bond grew tighter throughout the years. Without question, no one was more valuable to me than he was, but it wasn’t what they thought. Thick as thieves, they’d joke. On that part, they were never wrong.

We were personality opposites in every single way, but I loved him deeply as one would cherish a pain in the ass sibling they adored, I’d guess. As an only child, I wouldn’t personally know, but Matteo would’ve, and I’d bet everything I have that given the choice of his brother or me, Matteo and I would’ve stuck together. It’s been us against the world from the start. I was the yin to his yang.

In my vulnerable years, when so many people vowed to be there for me, Matteo was the only one who proved it. Trust— unquestionable. Loyalty— incontestable. He never gave me a reason to second-guess any of his motives or instructions, and when I’d balk at his protective bossiness, he didn’t give up. Both of these are Novella's and are a Duology. This seems to be a "thing" now and it works for this fun, sexy, set of short stories. I much prefer this setup than reading one and then a couple months later reading the other. It only takes a couple of hours to read the set and you can do it while at the doctors office or on a day off when you don't have all weekend to put into it. Definitely, if you want something hot and spicy with banter back and forth - this is what you'd pick!

 I loved the first book by Dangelico. In fact, I went on and on about that book and couldn't give enough stars. This book, however, had me shaking my head and scratching it at the same time. Don't get me wrong...I LOVED the characters and the premise. I even loved the story that was told, but I didn't love the inconsistencies of the characters of Ethan and Amber. There were some sex scenes in this once they started having sex at like 70% but then they didn't really add up to the characters. Ethan turned into a kinky dude who was demanding? I just see it. Amber, I could see being that way and being demanding, but Ethan....just no. I loved this book - don't get me wrong. I just didn't love it as much as the first book. I hope that it also has several rounds of editing before it goes to press. I didn't take off anything for that because I know when you're given an ARC you're agreeing that it's not proofed and this book needed it...with a red marker. What I love about the author is her sense of humor and her one-liners because some of them are abso-freaking-lutely hilarious!!! Overall, this book for me was worth the time and effort and I will automatically have this author on my TBR list right at the top!!!

My mother used to have a saying for everything.

“You can’t be pretty and lucky.”
She wasn’t pretty or lucky.

“You have to kiss a lot of toads before you find your Prince Charming.”
I kissed too many of those. Sorry, but Prince Charming isn’t in Hicktown, Kentucky.

“The good ones go to Heaven; the bad ones go to Hell.”
Guess I’m going to Hell.

“Hell is paved with good intentions.”
Surprisingly, that one is true. Why? Because ...

I intended to stay away from Calder Riggs.
I intended not to fall in love with him.
I intended to find a man who wasn’t a loser or a joker.
Oh well, I’ve never been afraid of Hell, anyway.
That’s why I’m Crazy Bitch!  




“That wasn’t polite,” he mumbled as they continued up the stairs.

“I didn’t like the way you were looking at Jewel.”

“I don’t look the way you look at Shade, Knox, or Rider.”

Crazy Bitch didn’t say anything until they reached their room.

“I didn’t like the way you looked at Jewel, so I said something. If you don’t like the way I look at other men, say something. I’m not a fucking mind reader.”

Tossing his bag onto the bed, he angrily stalked to where she was standing by the door. “I don’t like it.”

“Then I won’t do it anymore. Satisfied?”

He placed his hands on the door, caging her in. “When I’m with you, I’m never satisfied. I always want more. I’m not even satisfied when I’m done fucking you. I’m not satisfied when you come on my tongue and don’t beg me for more. I’m not satisfied that, if I walked away from you, you wouldn’t give a flying fuck. You know what would satisfy me? You quit playing around with me like you’re expecting me to fuck up and give you an excuse to stop seeing me.”
“You are going to fuck up—that’s what men do!”

“Woman, you act like you’re made out of armor. The problem is, it may be protecting you, but it’s keeping me away.” He traced the line of her stubborn jaw with his thumb. “You don’t have to protect yourself from me. I’m so crazy about you that I’m jealous over every man you look at.”

“I don’t want you jealous.”

“What do you want?”

Her eyes shifted sideways. “I want you to say you like me.”

Calder was stunned at her simple request. She wanted what no one had given her before. His heart ached that the only thing she wanted didn’t cost a dime, yet to her, it was as valuable as gold.

“Anna-Kate, I like you a lot. In fact, I like you so much I’m falling in love with you.”

“You are?” The woman whom he had considered to be hard as stone gave him an uncertain smile.

“A hundred percent.”

“You can’t go any higher than a hundred percent.”
“No, you can’t. I guess that settles it then. I’m definitely in love with you.”

She gave a smile so radiant he had to blink to make sure he was seeing it. It was like a flower that had unfurled in the sunlight, trying to catch the first rays of the morning. There was also wariness, but a gradual openness that let him catch sight of the gentle soul she kept guarded within her. As if one careless step would trample the budding love she was feeling for him.

He embraced her so gently he heard her breath hitch in her throat.

“Do you know how long I’ve been in love with you?” she asked.

“How long?” he asked huskily.

“When I looked over the edge on Black Mountain and you pulled me back. I’ve never had anyone do that for me.”

He frowned. “What, keep you from falling off a mountain?”

“Usually, people want to throw me off them, not hold me back.”
“That’s what makes me different. I would have gone over the cliff with you before I would have ever let you fall.”

This is a great start to a series that I want to have in my hands both physically and electronically. We've heard the hype for months and seen the clip of Brock O'Hurn which that in itself is enough to have us picturing him as we read...WINNER! Add in all that and a really good plot and storyline, you've got the makings of a totally great 2 hour movie. The authors did a tremendous job working together to pull this off and I hope that all the books in this line are going to be as good. I'm not giving anything on this one away. There's laughter and angst, but just enough to keep you in the book...oh just go buy it already!!
