Playlist Musings

I don’t listen to a lot of music while writing. I can’t have any distractions but I do get inspired by music when I’m in the car or running or some other activity. The problem with music and inspiration is that sometimes it takes time to discover your own taste.

I’ve never taken that time. I admire those that do, however.

To give you an idea of how banal my music tastes are, my latest purchase was Icona Pop’s “I Love It.” I like the beat, the catchy tune. It makes me think of Thelma and Louise and their amazing friendship. Oh and Abba.

When I think about the women in my stories, I like them to be part of a friendship with other women. I couldn’t have survived this long without my female friends. I wish there were more of those depicted in fiction.

Photo shoot anyone?

I might be doing a photoshoot for the cover of my second book, Unspoken.  That would be thrilling and I would definitely have to share outtakes on the blog and on Facebook.  Have you read the excerpt yet?  I can’t wait to finish this book and send it out to be beta read.  I really love Bo and AnnMarie (or AM as her girlfriend calls her).

Engagement Rings

I’ve been thinking about doing guest blog posts around the interwebs and one idea that sounded fun was envisioning what rings our favorite heroes would give our favorite girls. Can you guess which couple I thought this would belong too?

Layken and Will, right? I know. He gave her Layken’s mother’s ring. But if he had to buy a new one, butterfly promise anyone?

Cover Reveal

Totally Booked Blog graciously hosted my cover reveal. The cover makes everything real.  Be careful if you go over there, though, the information of all the new releases is going to wreak havoc on your pocketbook.

Ah, revisions

I received some great feedback on Undeclared but it means I need to go and rewrite a substantial portion of the book. That’s actually really great news.  The bad news is that it is going to push back the release date of the book until May 1.  It’s more important to put out a book that is good enough for readers than rush a publication date

Snippet from Undone

“But he wasn’t doing anything. You show a woman you love her by what you do for her from opening her door to making sure that bumps in the road of life are smoothed out. That she wants and worries for nothing.  That when you think about sex, it’s her face in your fantasies, her body you’re touching, her lips you’re kissing. That every day you remind her that she is the first thought in your mind when you wake up and the last thought before you drop off to sleep.”

“Oh” I said.

“Yeah, Oh” with that he unbuckled his seat belt and got out of the car.  I sat there stunned for a moment.  Bo’s belief in love was hotter than I had ever expected an expression of love to be. I had always viewed love as a more esoteric emotion, I guess.  For Bo, though, love was a visceral and tangible thing.  And one that made me want to be the object of it.

Win a Kindle Fire

I’ve donated a Kindle Fire to the popular romance book tournament: DABWAHA.  It’s run by two popular bloggers, Dear Author, and Smart Bitches Trashy Books.  A few of my favorite books are in the New Adult/Young Adult category.  Check out the books and titles:

Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore
Seraphina by Rachel Hartman
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
Easy by Tammara Webber
A Midsummer’s Nightmare by Kody Keplinger
Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry
Something Like Normal by Trish Doller
My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick

I haven’t read the Cashore and Hartman but I’ve put them on my to be read list.  I loved Easy, Pushing the Limits and Something Like Normal.  The Fault in Our Stars made me laugh and cry.  Perfect.

If you are interested, you can add my book to your Goodreads shelf.

Snippet for Bo’s Book

I came across this during my rewrites/edits this morning.  I’m not sure if it will make it into the final version but it so encapsulates my characters:

“Do you know what guys think about when you press your lips together?”

”That I am a judgmental and no fun?”

”That we would like to pry them apart”

“With what your fingers?”

“That or my tongue.”
