The 7 loves you need in your life (and 1 you don't) #30ColoursOfLove
Ask a dozen people to define love and you will probably get 24 different answers. That's just the way it is - love is a different emotion for everyone, based on how every experience and relationship has been in their lives. From that first momentous kiss to the sight of a crush to even the wag of a puppy dog's tail, the word love can conjure up a different image for even the same person at different points in their life.
This need to place love in a definable box is not a millennial thing, thoug...

Spread the Word About Leprosy to Help End the Spread of This Disease!
With all eyes – from the public to the government – fixed on the deadly coronavirus that has turned our lives around, it is easy to forget that there are many other diseases prevalent in India which risk fresh outbreaks if we let our guards down.
Today, I would like to talk to you about one such disease that has been in India literally for centuries. I am talking, of course, about Leprosy.
India is considered the country of origin of leprosy with skeletal evidence dating back to 2000 BC. Yet, ev...

20 personal moments I'm grateful for as 2020 comes to an end #Welcome2021BlogHop
2020 was a tough year. There really is no denying it. For the world, the country, for friends and family and yes, even me. There is a lot I would have to write on if I chronicled all that I felt went wrong.
But I would prefer not to give this beast of a year a list to enjoy as it evilly grins. No, I'd rather hunt through the memories of this year and show you all a few glimpses of what made me smile INSPITE of this year.
The aim behind this particular look back is to selectively let go of the pa...

3 out of 5 Vaccine Boosters is Not Good Enough
3 out of 5.
If these were the marks for any answer on my question paper back in my college days, Id say I did a pretty good job. If it was the review score for a movie, I would consider going for it.
Unfortunately, 3 out of 5 is not good enough always. As a doctor, one of the scenarios where it can be devastating is, in fact, for parents of young children.
I am referring to the DTP vaccine, of course.
Most of you already know that this vaccine that takes on three life threatening...

How to Pay for Medical Costs That Your Insurance Doesn’t Cover?
Health insurance is complicated, and medical billing is even more difficult to understand. Even though you might have enough insurance coverage, your health insurance may not cover all kinds of medical expenses.
What happens then? In this article, we’ll list down the types of medical services that the insurance doesn’t cover, and we’ll also talk about what you should do when this happens.
Here’s a list of medical services that your insurance policy doesn’t cover:

Have You Seen Fishes Sleeping on Branches?
I was walking around the house at 1 am one fine sleepless morning when I saw something that made me rush back for my mobile camera. It was only after becoming the proud owner of multiple aquariums (believe me, I am not using the term 'multiple' lightly here!) that I realized so many funny quirks of fishes.
From having a siamese fighting fish trust me so much that he would come to be petted every morning to watching the unique mating process of these betta fish, there have been some real eye - ope...

Is underwear the new outerwear?
Times have changed. People have started re-evaluating their truly essential products. They had a choice to make, and they made it in a split second. Either continue the search for a sharp dress-up fit or ditch the formal stitch for humble boxers.
We're back to the basics, and that's all we need. Just some underwear to get us by. Innerwear isn't the new outerwear quite yet.
But, the transition has begun.
What would work from home entail in the future? Will people cease to wear outerwear entirely whi...

How Would Your Favourite Superheroes Have Voted in an Election?
Superheroes. We have all grown up loving them.
From Superman to Iron Man, we've watched as movies and books have fleshed out their personalities, showcasing the people behind the mask. But have you ever wondered how your favourite superheroes would have voted in an election, given the chance?
If you have been a reader of the comic books or know the values that the creators (from Stan Lee to Jack Kirby) of these comic superheroes believe in, then you already know which side most of these comic her...

Delightfully Simple Sesame Prawn Toast
Close on the heels of that awesome super-easy prawn cutlet I made last week, I decided to try out another prawn based recipe this week.
The last (and first) time I had sesame prawn toast was nearly 16 years ago at one of Mangalore's most iconic hangout joints for non-teetotalers and lovers of classic rock, Liquid Lounge. Their food was consistently amazing as was their music collection, a memory that I still remember even though it has been many a year since I last set food in that lounge bar.

This One Piece of Paper in Your Pocket Can Save Your Life
What medication are your parents/spouse on? What is the dosage? What are their allergies? What is their medical and surgical history?
How well do you know it? More importantly, how well do the rest of your family members know it?
Imagine a situation where - God forbid - they are found unconscious and brought to the hospital. It could be following a heart attack, an episode of low blood sugar or following an accident. How would the treating doctor know what medication they are on and what medicatio...
