Louise Truscott was born, brought up and still lives in Melbourne, Australia. She tried not being a writer and editor, then tried being a corporate writer and editor, but she’s only truly happy writing and editing when she chooses what to write and what to edit. With a blog called Single White Female Writer, there are lots of hints in the name about who she is.

She published Enemies Closer, her debut novel, under the name LE Truscott in 2012. Project December: A Book About Writing, her second book, was published in 2015 and Project January: A Sequel About Writing was published in 2017. Black Spot, her upcoming novel, was shortlisted for the 2016 Text Prize.

Of course, I can’t speak for anyone except myself. But I like to think of writer’s block as my mind’s way of telling me that either:

1) I need a break, or

2) Whatever it is I’m writing, it’s not working and I need to stop and do some thinking about the writing (which leads back to point 1).

The only solution to writer’s block that I’ve found will work is to stop trying to force the writing to happen.(less)

Book Review: Sensual Whispers by Michelle Anne Noonan

I haven’t reviewed many poetry collections, mostly because I find it’s a difficult medium to strip down to its basic components. It’s almost never about fully developed characters or intricate plots (which are what I am usually looking for in writing) and compositions that would be ridiculous in a novel somehow work beautifully in a poem. And, yes, I struggled with trying to coalesce the mixtu

“In politics, If you want anything said, ask a man. If you want anything done, ask a woman.”
Margaret Thatcher

“I write to give myself strength. I write to be the characters that I am not. I write to explore all the things I'm afraid of. ”
Joss Whedon

“I'll take crazy over stupid any day.”
Joss Whedon

“Write it. Shoot it. Publish it. Crochet it, sauté it, whatever. MAKE.”
Joss Whedon

“I love writing, but hate starting. The page is awfully white and it says, 'You may have fooled some of the people some of the time but those days are over, Giftless. I'm not your agent and I'm not your mommy: I'm a white piece of paper. You wanna dance with me?' and I really, really don't. I'll go peaceable-like.”
