“At the very least, this lapis lazuli was a connection to Winter. And having it helped me feel stronger.” Mather, SNOW LIKE ASHES.

I am now an ambassador for @littleskystone and I HAVE NO CHILL. Not only do they make gorgeous jewelry, one such piece is this lapis lazuli bracelet that perfectly matches the stone Mather gives to Meira. I am in LOVE.

If you want to have a piece of Winter with you too, use the code SaraR30 for 30% off!! I do not feel nearly fancy enough to have my own code so please go use it lest my imposter syndrome consumes me.

Swipe for the quote in the book as well as my outtake pics!

There are two idea seeds I now know I need before I start a project. One is the ending—I cannot write a book without knowing where I’m going. The second is the opening line.

This is the opening line for my current WIP. As soon as it popped into my head, it aligned the opening scenes and solidified the characterization and made me EXCITED to work on this book.

But ya know what?

I’ve already changed it

Proof that I get out of my office.

I’m trying to be more active on Insta. The reason I dropped off on here to begin with was that a lot of the Insta culture made me feel wildly inferior. Disheveled. Unworthy. Perfect pictures of perfectly staged lives, while I’m in stained yoga pants with greasy hair.

But I even said the most important word just now: STAGED. This is all staged. This is all perfection theater, and for every gorgeously edited pic, there are camera rolls full of outtakes.

So, as I get more active on Insta again, I am going to try to be transparent. Swipe for a selection of my outtakes, and come behind the scenes of perfection theater with me.

What are some of your favorite poems? I love this line so much I had it permanently inked on my body.

I have an ever-growing collection of poetry books I read when I hit the final round of edits. Poetry helps me get into an opulent frame of mind, where I can let words be luscious and lyrical. It’s one of my favorite stages (editing > drafting!!

Give me a ✍️ if you like drafting or a ✏️ if you like editing!

While at the retreat this weekend, we had many a discussion about which stage of writing we like best. For me, drafting is an abysmal vortex of soul-splintering, time-wasting nonsense; but I’m able to power through it to get to lush, exciting editing, where messes become pretty and all that time-wasting in drafting redeems itself.

I’ve also found that wearing pretty things while I draft helps counter the ugliness. Hey, whatever tricks my brain into tolerating drafting!
