Been seeing a lot of people post words that encapsulate their 2018 hopes/goals/attitudes. This word keeps popping up in my resolution conversations, so holding it as my beacon this new year.

Hippocrates and I have some very strong feelings about 2017. It was…a year. Heh. I moved three times (once out of state); Husband started a new job; I didn’t have any new books come out (still twitchy about that); and even without the added craziness of a book release, 2017 has been one of the hardest years I’ve had in a long time. I’m still, and will be for awhile I suspect, trying to refill my well (creatively, personally, spiritually, mentally…) and trying to figure out exactly how to do that, honestly. My 2018 resolutions/goals include a lot of giving myself space and time. To indulge in things purely because I want to do them. To be patient and kind and steady — with myself. Not easy for someone who finds it impossible to do anything that doesn’t have a clear purpose (Type A Virgos FTW), but damn it, I think we’ve all decided 2018 will be good, yeah? It will be good. By the collective power of all our intentions, 2018 will be GOOD. And hey, we all have pirates to look forward to this August, so there’s that.

Let it be written, let it be so. Thanks to everyone who made name suggestions! The winning nom de plume for my Writing Stress Hippo came from one of my old college comrades, @laurelizsch. Puns always win.

This hippo - this poor, unsuspecting hippo - came into this world, thinking “I shall be a lovely Christmas present.” Little did he know his true fate would be far darker: to become the official Writing Stress Mascot of one Sara Raasch. It is not a fate easily bestowed, nor a destiny easily accepted - but this wee hippo has taken up the mantle with vigor and grace. Thus, he is deserving of a name worthy of such an esteemed, poised creature. I call on you now, good folks of the internet - what should this fine Writing Stress Hippo Mascot be called? Submit your names in the comments and I’ll pick the best one!
