The Just, Girl Project- A Special Blog Spot
Every once in a while, I am approached with some amazing opportunities. Whether it be reviewing a musical artist or talking about something that I am passionate about. For the past two years I have been able to achieve several goals in my life and it is because of all of you amazing people that those things have happened for me. Today is one of those days whereI get to share something that I feel has an inspiring message.
The Just, Girl project was started byIlana Harkavy, a singer-songwriter out of California. She has just released her first EP and it is a small collection of songs written to help empower young women. Shewas inspiredto create her album after stumbling across groups on Facebook and other social media sites promoting things from eating disorders to self-harm. The idea of those kinds of groups were not-only heartbreaking to her, but disturbingly relatable. She decided to take her skills as a singer and songwriter and put them to good use.
Ilana is currently running an Indiegogo campaign to help her raise money to that she can share her message with young girls everywhere. I was approached to share her message and campaign and I couldn’t turn it down. I feel that women everywhere deserve to feel good about themselves. You can check out more about Ilana and the Just, Girl Project by clicking here.

Why Do I Blog?
I love this. I question why I blog from time to time. You should definitely read it!

Today, I read a very thought-provoking articleon Ronovan Writes. He talks about remembering your reason for blogging instead of getting caught up in blog stats. His post got me thinking about why I blog and what I want to accomplish by blogging.
Ill admit, there have been times Ive been caught up in blog stats. How many likes on this post versus that one. Or how many comments and shares. For the most part, I dont obsess over the numbers, though I do tend to suffer from Bloggers Guilt when Ive gone too long between original posts. I worry about how many reblogs I can get away with before I have to write something of my own.
But I shouldnt think of it that way. I shouldnt feel like I have to write something. I should want to write. I shouldnt worry about whether or not my post is

For writers: Steps to deal with book piracy
While there are a few of these steps I have a differing opinion on, I highly recommend reading this!

When my debut novel was released just over two weeks ago, book piracy was the last thing on my mind. In those two weeks, links to illegal downloads of Want spread like wildfire.
As fate would have it, I have a friend who is well-versed in book piracy, and I attended a writing workshop yesterday where one of the topics was dealing with the same thing. Serendipity? I think so.
Below are some of the things I learned, much of the info coming from author Candace Sams, who has been a victim of book piracy thousands of times over.

First: Do a Google search of the following:
[author name, book title, epub]
My search looked like this: Stephanie Lawton Want epub
UPDATE: Thanks to author Lisa Burstein, who pointed out that searching for your name, title and PDF shared will often return additional results, ex: Stephanie Lawton

What can YOU do about it?
If you are an author and YOUR book(s) are being offered without your permission issue DMCA Notices (SEE BELOW FIRST)
If you are a reader PLEASE DO NOT USE THESE SITES!
It may be tempting to get books FOR FREE or at greatly reduced prices but
They may bea click farm looking for your email
and you will be infected with a virus.

AUTHORS VERY IMPORTANT!!!
DO NOT SEND THE OFFENDING SITE A DIRECT NOTICE.
If they are on Facebook Use Facebooks reporting form to remove their link source from Facebooks server.
My attorney warns me not to click on them, but to send a form letter to their server.
You can find out their server here:

Promotional Opportunity for Authors and Bloggers!
Tricia Drammeh shared a call to arms for the ABAP tour. You should definitely check it out!
Originally posted on Authors to Watch:
The Authors and Bloggers Against Piracy Blog Tour is scheduled to kick off May 24th through May 30th. If youre an author and/or blogger, this is a great chance to raise awareness about piracy AND to promote your own book too!
For authors who are in the KDP Select program or have other means of giving away free books, this tour is a great chance to promote yourself.
For bloggers, this tour could be a fun way to connect with other bloggers and authors, AND to find some awesome, free books!
How will this blog tour end piracy? It wont. Piracy is a problem that isnt going to go away. Hopefully, well be able to sway a few readers away from the pirating sites and lead them toward places where they can legally obtain free books. Bear in mind that a lot of these pirate sites arent giving away books

Authors Against Piracy Blog Tour
Check out this awesome post by Joleene Naylor about the ABAP tour. And if you haven’t signed up today, what are you waiting for?

In a digital world, where content is turned into 1s and 0s, piracy has become an issue. As a consumer, one often reads about Warner Brothers or other studios cracking down on movie pirates, or music thieves. But how often does the average reader see anything about book piracy?
Before I was an author, I didnt know book piracy existed. Sure, I knew there were places to steal movies, and TV, but it never occurred to me that there were people or websites stealing books. yet Piracy accounts for at least 12% of ebooks in the United States alone. Id bet that there are plenty of other readers (and maybe even authors) as naive as I was, people who have no idea that downloading that free PDF of a novel is stealing. When you can’t be everywhere
Originally posted on Tricia Drammeh:
As authors, we often hear about the importance of social media. Were supposed to establish a presence on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Tsu, Pinterest, Tumblr, Reddit, and other sites I probably have never heard of. Overwhelmed yet? I am. The idea of being in all these places is daunting, especially if youre new to social media and are still trying to find your way around.
In addition to being told we need to have a profile set up on all the platforms listed above, were also told were supposed to have a snazzy website. Were instructed to blog X number of times every week and to engage with other bloggers. We have to Tweet X number of times per day, but not too many Tweets about our books, or well run the risk of being labeled spammers. YA authors are encouraged to be activeonWattpad.
