"Rockets Readers

"The sins of his father weigh heavily on Durango, an outcast teen mercenary who's trying to eke out a living on tomorrow's gritty, trigger-happy Mars. Fortunately, he is armed with an AI implant, a crew of colorful misfits, and an unshakable sense of humor. David Macinnis Gill rockets readers to new frontiers in this imaginative, action-packed tale."

Redux: Open House

Because it's less than two weeks until the launch of Black Hole Sun, I thought it would be fun to revisit some old blog posts.  I've been blogging about writing since 2004ish, and it's interesting–if not embarassing–to read some of the things I wrote before.Today's blog redux from 2007 is a post about rejections. I still feel the same way.

One of my stories got rejected today. It didn't upset me. Disappointed, yes. Upset, no. When a writer sends out a query letter, a story, a partial, or f...

"Fans Will Eat This Up

"Intrepid teen regulator Jake Durango leads a daring pack of fearless freedom fighters in a dystopian future where humans rage against ferocious, porcine creatures called Drau, who prey upon human flesh. Based on Mars, Jake and his crew are hired to protect a colony of human miners from the Drau and their evil queen. Throw in a forbidden love triangle, an extensive
underground cave system, a smart-alecky, trigger-happy Buckaroo Banzai–like soldier and plenty of blood and guts, and Gill scores ...

Redux: Esiver, Esiver, Esiver

Because it's less than two weeks until the launch of Black Hole Sun, I thought it would be fun to revisit some old blog posts.  I've been blogging about writing since 2004ish, and it's interesting–if not embarassing–to read some of the things I wrote before.

Today's blog redux is a post about revising WIPs that I had.  Note the last sentence. I got a kick out of it.

After much procrastination, the rewrite of BOUND FOR GLORY/GLORY BOUND/DEVILS AND DUST has begun. Armed with the suggestions...

No NASFIC for me, but….

A business trip/family misadventure kept me from attending NASFIC this year, which is a shame because it's just up the street in Raleigh, but I delighted to hear that Black Hole Sun was included in Amy Sturgis' presentation "Young Adult Dystopias: What Do They Mean for SF?" http://eldritchhobbit.livejournal.com...

Even more fun was seeing articles from The ALAN Review listed in the critical bibliography. Many of these articles are available in the electronic archive of the...

Letter to the Reader

When galleys of a new book are sent out to readers, editors often include a short letter from the author, telling a couple of things about how the book came into being. A couple of months ago, Greenwillow sent out ARCs of Black Hole Sun, and they asked me write a such a letter, letting the reader know how I came up with a future dystopia on Mars.  The response from the letter was pretty good, so I thought I would share it:

Black Hole Sun is a novel set in a dystopian future. So of course, I'm...

"Rockets Readers to New Frontiers"

Suzanne Collins, best-selling and award-winning author of the Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and the forthcoming Mockingjay, has written a blurb for Black Hole Sun!  Interestingly, Mockingjay and Black Hole Sun share a publication date of August 24. Here's the blurb:

"The sins of his father weigh heavily on Durango, an outcast teen mercenary who's trying to eke out a living on tomorrow's gritty, trigger-happy Mars. Fortunately, he is armed with an AI implant, a crew of colorful misfits, and...
