Crowdfunding Cora Riley: YOU DID IT! AND STRETCH GOALS!

The Cheat has a lightswitch rave

A-HOLY CRAP, YOU GUYS,

WE MADE IT!

$2320/ $2000 raised :: 116% funded!

Another generous soul donated at the $500 level while I was taking a grump-nap this morning, pushing us past the $2,000 original goal, past the first stretch goal of $2,100, and right up to the brink of the second.

I’ll admit I cried. I’m not proud.

AND THEN. And. Then.

More donations started rolling in. I can only assume that folks with fresh paychecks in hand got excited, too, because we easily crested the $2,300 mark by lunch...

Crowdfunding Cora Riley: We’re $300 away from being fully funded! Let’s talk stretch goals!

Keanu Reeves Whoa

$1,695/ $2,000 :: 85% done!

Let’s just take a moment to bask in the glory of those numbers, shall we?

Eighty-five percent funded. Three hundred and five dollars left to go.

*deeply-contented sigh*

For those of you who didn’t see when I lost my mind on Twitter and Facebook, the campaign received a single donation in the amount of $500 last night – yes, fivehundreddollars. I never really believed in angel investors until that moment.

I cried. I may have even peed a little.

And then, the most amazing...

Crowdfunding Cora Riley: 50% funded and the sneak peek cover reveal!

Success kid - nailed it

$1001/ $2000 raised :: 50% done!

It’s official! We’re halfway there!

To celebrate, Desz and I are releasing theCora Rileycover study. I’ll admit that I squeed a little (okay, a lot) when it hit my inbox. SO PRETTY. Keep in mind that this is just the rough sketch that forms the base of the eventual artwork. The final will be much more detailed, lush, and colorific, trust me.

Click here to see the first draft of the cover!

WOOPWOOP!

But we still have $999 to raise, and there are only 9 measly days l...

Crowdfunding Cora Riley: Meet Desiree Kern, the lady behind the art

You guys have already heard a lot aboutThe Transmigration of Cora Riley (and if you haven’t, I’ll be happy to tell you again). But you haven’t been hearing much about the flesh-and-blood artist creating the cover art for that book. Which is a goddamn shame, and I apologize. Time to shine up a star.

Desiree Kern contemplates the universe

Desiree Kern – Desz to her friends – is a huge nerd, a world traveler, a cancer survivor, and a loyal friend. She’s also a talented seamstress, photographer, woodburner, and leathercrafter.

But, most...

Crowdfunding Cora Riley: Want to read the first chapter? Thought so.

Success kid - nailed it

You did it, y’all!

Overnight, we passed the $750 mark and are well on our way to 50% funded with only 14 days remaining.

That means I get to release an excerpt! Originally, I’d said it’d be 500 words, and then I realized the part I’d picked out was only 440 words. I couldn’t bring myself to short you like that, but no other small passages seemed good or non-spoilery enough. And so I decided to release the entire first chapter of the book. Because I love you.

Head to the IndieGoGo page to downloa...

Crowdfunding Cora Riley: Progress, teasers, and interviews, oh my!

$670/ $2000 raised :: 34% done!

That’s right, folks! We’re halfway into the crowdfunding campaign to pay our brilliant cover artist (and assorted legit-making coolness), and we’re just over a third of the way to our goal. Not too shabby!

But we can do better, right? I thought so.

And so, because I really do love giving you presents, I’ve decided to release a 500-word excerpt from the book once we hit $750. Yes, in addition to the next-stage cover reveal when we hit the halfway mark of $1000. Huz...

Crowdfunding Cora Riley: Announcing more cool shit!

Mischievous cat is plotting something via icanhascheezburger

MWAHAHA. Desz and I are evil geniuses. Just so you know.

We’re at the end of the second week of the IndieGoGo campaign to getThe Transmigration of Cora Riley a sexy cover, and we’ve come up with some tempting additions designed motivate you to jump feet-first into the Book That Love Built.

Addition the First

When we passed 25% funded, I revealed Desz’ four pencil sketch brainstorms for the cover. The tease went over so well that I decided to do it again. Once the campaign reaches 50% funded, I’l...

Looking into the face of addiction

Self Preservation by I Must Be Dead

I smoked a pack of Marlboro Reds every day my first semester of college. I switched to Lucky Strike unfiltereds the second semester because I’m secretly a middle-aged man from the 1940s.

I make no excuses for this behaviour. The reasoning is simple: I wanted to be as cool as my indiemodhipster suitemate. I loved the curl of smoke around my face, the earthy scent of a fresh cigarette, the sharp hit of a new pack against my palm.

One day, idling at a stoplight while grocery shopping, I abruptly c...

Crowdfunding Cora Riley: 25% update and cover sketches reveal!

Success kid - nailed it

It’s the second week ofthe IndieGoGo campaignfor the professional cover-ing and printing ofThe Transmigration of Cora Riley. Excitement!

On Friday, I announced that once we hit the $300 mark, I’d release the batch of brainstorming sketches Desz (our cover artist) has done. And then I sent a poke to the newsletter on Monday when we’d reached $215 – and you guys came through in freaking spades. Overnight, we blasted past the promised 15% mark for the cover sketch reveal straight to 25%.

100 Things #41: Complete a 5K

Colors of Hope - Ellie and Lino

Lino and me post-race. I look like hell and give no fucks.

I did it!

I walked a 5K on my new hip yesterday and didn’t pass out or cry or anything!

Lino carried a 120lb ruck, and we traversed the muddy-as-shit course together around the lake at Christie Conservation Area, clocking in at 1 hour, 12 minutes. We were not dead last. Huzzah!

This was a big one, folks. I honestly wasn’t sure if I could do it when I put it on all three of my lists back in January. I needed to prove to myself that I am no...
