Excerpt
Jess stepped off the transporter and right into the bustle of alien activity around her. What kind of fresh holy hell did I come to? Alien races, some of which she recognized, others she didn’t, streamed up and down the walkways, coming and going. Transporters of various sizes occupied every available space of the four long rows of docking stations. She and JB had waited half the day just to get a spot in line for landing. From what she could see, the Sonis palace had a slew of visitors. She could have easily retreated back into the confines of secured safety. But to do so would be an open admission of fear and weakness. She was neither. The days of being scared of every alien who came her way were long over. Jess took a long breath, filling her lungs with so much air that her chest puffed out. It burned as she held it there while a group of Zarcarians, blue aliens with small, seemingly vacant slits for eyes, meandered by her, deep in conversation. Their white hair was cropped just above where their ears should have been. Silver robes covered their tall, lanky frames and brushed the ground as they walked. Although she couldn’t make out the hushed whispers that came from mouths that were devoid of lips, she still stood ridged, prepared to fight if needed. She didn’t relax even after they finally moved past her and away. Stay calm. Deep breaths. In, out, in, out. JB rustled from behind her at the transporter’s door. She didn’t startle as he held onto her  waist and pushed her gently to the right, out of his way. He exited and stood by her side. Unlike her, concern and apprehension didn’t show on his face as he raised his arms in the air and stretched. Standing six-feet-two, he was only two inches taller than her. “Whew, sweet Jesus. Look at all these people.”  “They’re not people.” She scanned the transport bay. “They’re aliens and…things.” She cringed as she caught a pair of Rasdons emerging from a transporter. Their species resembled a snarling dog. They were taller than her and JB with black, coarse hair covering most of their body. Long snouts sat just above yellow fangs that hung out of their mouths. Their beastly black eyes darted from side to side, taking in everything around them. Their sexual tastes…ran to the obscene. She’d been the subject of their affection at the brothel more times than she could remember. To her, next to the Loconuist, Rasdons were what nightmares were made of. One of the Rasdons turned her way and ran a tongue over the tips of his fangs. At her hiss, JB followed her gaze. He straightened, prepared for a confrontation. “You know them?” She shook her head. “No.” She didn’t need to know them. She knew of them and it was all the same. “Don’t pay them any mind then,” JB said, relaxing. Right. Ignore the dogs. “What about them?” Jess nodded in the direction of two males golden in appearance and with more muscles that should be allowed on aliens. Each towered above eight-feet tall. “They’ll be too hard to ignore.” The tribal tattoos covering one side of their faces, necks and exposed torsos indicated they were members of the Sonis Royal Guards. The jangos strapped to their backs and blasters clipped to their black indicated they were dangerous. Their pants were so tight that every muscle was visible in their legs as they walked. She grabbed a hold of her own blaster that she kept strapped tightly to her thigh. Her heart sped up. The erratic beat sent blood rushing through her veins, drowning out the other sounds of the room. Against her will, she took a step back, almost falling into the transporter. JB gripped her arm firmly, stabilizing her. “Whoa, take it easy. They’re not coming this way. You're safe.” She closed her eyes and took the breath that had begun to burn in her chest. Safe. She shook off his arm. Nothing against JB, but everyone would have seen her stumble back. They didn’t need to see her requiring help as well. “Give me a sec.” She stood in place and listened as the commotion continued around her. Nearby, there was an argument regarding decorations and a conversation about the royal transporter. There wasn’t talk about slaves, brothels or whores. Sonis was supposed to be her new home. She couldn’t panic out every time she came near aliens, especially royal guards. Hell, Sonis was littered with them. While Laconia was mainly a native inhabited planet, there were ten royal guards, including Sa’Mya’s head guard, Jor’Dan who lived there. Jess stayed away from the Neanderthals at all costs. Her main goal had been to avoid as many aliens as possible. Even while working on The Vengeance II, she chose not to leave the vessel when they docked on alien worlds. Here, it looked as though it was a freakin’ alien United Nations. She had to get herself together and quickly. Otherwise she wouldn’t last out the week and going back to Laconia was not an option right now. She opened her eyes on the next breath. “Okay, I’m ready.” JB slapped her hard on the back, knocking her off balance. She found her footing and cut her eyes at him as he bit back a laugh. He shrugged nonchalantly. “See? Nothing to worry about. They probably thought you were a guy anyway.” He ran a playful hand across her short, spiky hair as she tried to duck out of his way. “But I guess you’re still going for that look, huh?” He of course was referring to her days as a runaway slave. The Loconuist had sold her to a brothel. In order to escape, she had cut off her curly locks and donned male clothing. Her height, chopped hair and the dirt she smeared across her face had gotten her waved through security. Once free, she hid on the first vessel she could break into, The Vengeance. That vessel happened to belong to a crew of wanted human pirates—JB, Ryan, Kyle, Eli and their captain Kane. She thanked God every night for guiding her to the five men who would become her only family. But right now, her closest friend was getting on her nerves and was one breath away from getting gut-punched. She snarled and pushed JB’s hand out of the way. He chuckled. His boyish dimples were set deep in his cheeks. “I’ll take that as a yes.” It didn’t matter that he teased her about her appearance. Hell, everyone did. She wasn’t dainty like other women, nor did she want to be. The only reason she had survived what she’d been through was because she was unbreakable. She had to be. There was no other choice. She straightened her shoulders. “When aliens look at me, I want them to see someone strong.” “Well if you ask me, the look you're projecting is…” He scanned her from top to bottom. “Penis repellant.” She narrowed her eyes and took a step closer to him so only he could hear her words. “Don’t make me fuck you up right here in the transport bay,” she threatened. JB feigned surprise by opening his eyes wide and inhaling sharply. Exaggerating his efforts, he placed a hand on his chest. “Really, Jess? You’re going to pick a fight with me and on your first day on Sonis? Tsk, you’ll never keep a job at this rate.” “Whatever,” she mumbled. “Stop fucking with me.” She scanned the area again. “I want to make a good impression.” JB quirked a brow. “Let me get this straight. You are worried about a good first impression?” Jess frowned. “Of course.” “Since when?” he asked in disbelief. She cocked her head in thought. She was stealing from Kane when she first met him. She had threatened to kill the guys when she first met them. She tried to strangle Sa’Mya when she met her… Oh yeah, she hadn't been worried about making a good first impression in a while. JB laughed. “C’mon, let’s get going.” She shook her head. “No, Eva said she would meet us here.” Jess adjusted the knapsack on her back and held the other tight in her hand. All her belongs could fit into two small bags. A far cry from the condo filled with high-end clothes and shoes she had back on Earth. JB looked around the large docking area again. “I don’t see her here.” She shifted from one booted foot to the other. “Yeah, but—” JB swung his medium-sized duffle bag over his shoulder. “I’m going exploring. She’ll find us when she’s ready for us.” Without waiting for her response, he set out. She had two choices. She could stay in the transport bay by herself or she could leave with JB. He took two more long strides away from her before she rushed to his side. She grunted under her breath as she stepped in time with him, just as he expected her to. Asshole. She followed as he led the way through the exit. She made certain not to brush against any of the aliens they passed. “What if we get lost?” He turned, only to give her a wink. His blue eyes were alive with mischief. She figured that was the reason many females swooned around him, human and alien. “Then Eva will send someone to find us.” She couldn’t help but grunt. JB didn’t give a damn about anything. She would've thought being abducted from Earth, sold as a slave to a mining colony and then spending a year on the run would have been enough to sober anyone’s attitude, but not his. If she didn’t know any better, she would think he didn’t have a care in the world. That’s if she didn’t know better. But as with the rest of their small band of misfits, JB had lost family and loved ones as well. “What’s the plan now?” she asked when they reached a large communal area. JB scanned the room of females and whistled low. “Trouble. The plan is to get into as much trouble as humanly possible.”

#WedBriefs Flash Fiction Lady #21 by A.R. Von

Happy Hump Day and welcome to Wednesday Briefs Flash Fiction! As always, I was given various options to inspire this weeks brief. I chose to go with the 2 photos below for this weeks Lady.

For those of you that have not read the prior week's portions and would like to. Click HERE to access them all.

I hope you enjoy & thank you for reading!

Running on two legs is even more thrilling then running on four hoofs. So invigorating and freeing, only not as fast. I never thought I’d be so quick to learn to be human and am grateful for such an amazing teacher in Dezso. Having him chase me just adds to the thrill of it all. Especially, knowing what is to come once we arrive at home.
My heart pounds and my sex clenches with need. I hope he catches up quickly. I turn to look at his progress and do not see him. I slow down my movements and listen closely and hear nothing but the sounds of nature. Taking a step back in Dezso’s direction, I find myself unable to go any further. It’s as if I’m encased in a clear rubbery substance, oily and evil.

Slowly, it shrinks itself around me to a point I can’t take a breath or blink my eyes. I scream Dezso’s name in my mind. This is true fear for me. Fear of death and helplessness…
****

I relax my mind and allow the visitor entry. Once it is open I hear Iria scream in my mind. She is trapped, but I do not see where. The force of her power is immense. I don’t think she realizes what she did when she sent out her call.
Fire heats my blood. I need to get to her, now! Only I don’t know where. So, I send my thoughts back to her. Hoping she can answer and give me an idea of where she is. It’s working; she’s now sending me not only her thoughts and feelings, but also what she sees around her. [image error] She’s suffocating. It’s as if she’s encased in a bubble, but one that molds to her body.
I must find her quickly. I send calming thoughts her way with hopes it will help her to last longer without air. She is over the hill, only a half mile from our home. There are dark forms surrounding her, hooded and oozing evil. I cannot make out what they are saying. All I now hear is the blood rushing, pounding in Iria’s ears.

I’ve dropped our things a ways back and turn to the light to use its power to get to her quicker. I find myself standing right in front of her now with my back to the enemy. Realizing my position, I quickly turn and send blasts of energy and fire at each form. Only hitting half of them. There must be at least a dozen and they are all full of darkness. Only out to destroy. [image error] I let my light forth and surround Iria and myself in its warmth.

The evil surrounding Iria seems to melt away and she falls to her knees gasping for air. What do they want with her? They cannot know who or what she truly is. If they do, we are in more trouble than I thought. I rush to her side and gently pull her up into my arms. I look at her face and her eyes widen in shock. I turn my head to look at the reason why and I see two of the last people I’d want to cross swords with right now. Than and Cassiel, my father…

****
Thank the goddess Dezso was able to hear and answer my call for help. I’m still not practiced enough in magic to escape something so dark and foreboding as what was just done to me.  I NEED much more training if we are to be able to defeat those associated with the darkness. I want to say this to Dezso as he holds me, almost too tightly as I am trying to gain my bearings and replete my lungs of oxygen. I raise my gaze to look at him and see two males moving closer to us.
My heart pounds and I feel my eyes widen in recognition. The two most evil males of this time are heading straight for us and I can’t get my mouth to speak any words. Dezso instantly takes notice of my fear and places me behind him as he spins to greet or defend us both from Than and Cassiel.

I feel a strong pulse of magic thrash out from Dezso and try to take a small step away from him. He prevents me from doing so by pulling me closer to him and whispering an apology without taking his eyes off of the two men. I feel his chest expand and the pulses of magic calm around us.
He slowly blows out the breath and addresses my attackers. “Why are you here and why have you attacked my beloved?”

Both men smile wickedly and raise their hands. Power is pulsing from their fingertips in oily waves. They are not going to talk. They are only going to fight to get whatever it is they want. I hope Dezso sees this as I do.  My curiosity is quickly answered when Dezso whispers in my mind, “Bring forth your light Iria. Help me to fight them. We should be able to banish them even temporarily, if we push our light before they release their dark magic.”I don’t answer him. I simply bring it forth and let it loose along with Dezso. Both men’s eyes widen in shock and surprise at our bold and successful move against them.

Our combined light is so bright as it hits them, I can no longer see their forms. Dezso tells me to ease back and I listen. Slowly pulling the light back into myself and feeling its warmth. Dezso is doing the same, only he looks pained. He begins to seize up and groan. I look to the spot where the men were and they are gone. Dezso’s light seems to be stuck on something or by someone. I see no one and nothing. Only that he cannot pull it back within himself.

Acting on instinct, and to what my heart is telling me, I release my light once more. This time, pouring my love and soul into it with hopes to help Dezso. I try to get into his mind but it is blocked. He must be too focused on trying to bring his power back within. I am not going to push any harder with fear of distracting him. Instead, I lean my body against his, close my eyes and whisper, “lux et veritas—light and truth.”

Be sure to come back for the next brief!

***All parts of Lady, except for #1 will be removed from the blog within the next few weeks and released (with additional scenes) in ebook as well as print not too long after (I will let you know new title and all other information soon). I'm very excited about this and hope you'll join me for the thrill ride!***

(This story continues to be dedicated to my one and only sister, my Pookie. Her love of unicorns from when we were tots is what inspired me to write it. Love you my sissy!)

EXCERPT
Pyre was ready to call it quits. He foresaw no end to the desert and was not only tired but starving. Reaper warned them from the start that stopping even for a few minutes out here would mean death.
Pyre tried to lift his leg to step in vain, and soon felt himself crash, exhausted in the sand. The others heard the thud over the swirling winds and stopped each turning around.
“Pyre you have to get up. We’re almost out of here!” Oceanus yelled, Panic laced in his words.
It’s too late for him. We have to keep moving! Reaper growled to the large blue dragon.
“I’m not leaving him behind wolf! He’s my brother I can’t leave him!” Oceanus hissed to the wolf alpha.
The ground behind Pyre began to rumble. The vibration trailing over to Oceanus and the wolves. They all looked down between their feet, then to Pyre, then to the large sand dune forming behind him. Shocked horror masked on all their faces.
We have to move now or we’re all dead! Reaper barked. Behind him, the four scouts began to shift their weight from paw to paw nervously as they whined.
“I am not leaving Pyre…” Oceanus started. His words abruptly cut off by an earsplitting clacking sound.
Behind Pyre, stood a scorpion as large as a small dragon. It’s deadly tail dripping green poison.
“What in the nine hells is that?!” Oceanus fumbled for words as his gaze fell on the creature.
One of the many reasons I told you not to lift the mountain. That’s a pet of the demons of Shai’Pyre. If it’s tail even grazes you, it’s death. Reaper explained as he and the other wolves backed up slowly.
I hear the meat under the shell is to die for. The snarky female scout commented.
The scorpion had spotted Pyre’s prone form and poised its tail to strike.

Goodreads Blurb:
Ryan Christensen just wanted to be an actor. Never in his wildest dreams did he ever think that accepting a role in an unknown film would toss his career into overdrive. His new fame has cost him dearly; anonymity is no longer an option. His fans stalk him, the paparazzi hound him, and Hollywood studios all want a piece of him. Despite all of that, Ryan Christensen craves the most basic of human needs - to have love in his heart and privacy in his life.

Taryn Mitchell, the story's protagonist, is a realist. She's been feigning contentment, running the family pub in Seaport, Rhode Island, while quietly nursing her own internal heartaches. Her feet are fairly glued to the ground and she doesn't buy into all the hype that has descended on her tiny, coastal town. In her world, men are safe if they're kept at a distance.

Fate has other plans for these two when their paths cross one sunny afternoon. A group of female fans has attacked him, leaving his shirt torn, his face cut, and Ryan in obvious distress. Bonds between them form from the most dramatic of circumstances while jealousy, insecurity, and the stress of his celebrity life try to tear them apart.

Through all the tabloid lies, secrecy, and pressure, can Taryn's peace and Ryan's high-profile insanity live together in harmony?

My Review:
This is the kind of story that sticks in your brain and with you for quite a while after you are though reading it, very… interesting and unusual compared to what I normally read (all good things). It was fun, funny, sensual, exciting and romantic with an edge that keeps you turning the pages. It also had excellent characters and vivid descriptions, so great at times they make you feel as if you're a voyeur! Any romance reader will be HOOKED on Love Unscripted :)
Taryn is a beautiful, independent and strong woman that takes no crap from men or anyone in general. She has her own business and some great friends that are always there for her. Taryn has some insecurity issues that are to be blamed on past experiences, specifically men, which tend to really throw off her thinking process, driving her thoughts in various directions and leaving her befuddled. Especially when it comes to a certain hot bodied, handsome, amazing actor hottie named Ryan.
Ryan is a HUGE movie star. He lives and loves acting. It’s a dream come true for him, he just cannot stand the way his fans practically brutalize, stalk and gossip constantly about him and whoever he’s around. Once and awhile everyone just wants to be left alone, left in the peace of their own thoughts and actions. One day some of his female fans end up chasing him straight into his peace (unknowingly), right into a woman that is all he’s ever wanted and more. Only thing is, it’s not a small task to convince her or to gain her trust, after all we know what the gossip columns say…

Even though (at times) the main characters made me want to knock their heads into one another because of their insecurities and repeating of issues, it did make the story seem more realistic and believable and I was able to relate (we all want to knock our loved one(s) upside the head when they repeat something from the past and what not, UGH!) It was still a 5 rating for me. Love this author’s voice and look forward to the next in the series as well as more work from Tina Reber. Especially after an ending like that! Bring it on!!!

Goodreads Blurb:
She’s forty and vanilla…he’s twenty-eight and…not.

Score one for Kate Angel. She’s just signed the hottest erotica author to her start up publishing house, Angel Books, but she needs a crash course in kink to appease her demanding client. Creating a Domsublife.com profile seems like an innocent way to do her homework and satisfy her curiosity.

Mason Myers has lived a lifetime in his twenty-eight years. The product of an Irish orphanage, he grew up fast to overcome his lonely, humble beginnings to become the successful businessman he is today. He's also an experienced Dom at the Satin Rose Experience, an elite BDSM club in New York City.

A mutual appreciation for modern art establishes their online connection. Mason convinces Kate to meet him at the Guggenheim museum’s erotica exhibit where she reveals her fascination in the art of rope bondage, known as Shibari. Introducing her to the ancient art within the safety of the club, Mason helps Kate surrender her deep-seated hang-ups about her age and body image.

As the physical and emotional ties that bind her into the submissive of his fantasies tighten, can Kate learn to break the emotional tethers ruling her life and embrace the freedoms they bestow?

My Review:
As with all of the other SRE stories so far, I LOVE Tie Me Free! So realistic, touching, sensual and (of course) very well written. A definite must read for all fans of the genre. Even if you’ve not read any of the others yet, this story can be read as a stand-alone.
Kate is a 40 year old woman that’s not found her Mr. Right just yet. She mainly focuses on her publishing company and keeping her clients happy. In fact, her desire to keep them happy has her doing research into various erotic elements. More particularly the BDSM scene. This is all very new to her and she finds herself curious. But can she get over the negative opinion she has about herself, her body in general and open up to explore some newly discovered pleasures in life?

I look forward to more from Sandra and (hopefully) more additions to SRE. The experience in itself is quite addictive ;)

Goodreads Blurb:
Taranis, the Celtic god of Thunder, has spent an eternity longing for the touch of a single mortal woman. He has followed her through incarnations, but always his powers were too much for her to bear.

Tara is a deaf woman, struggling to fit in the hearing world. She hides a gentle heart behind a tough exterior. Will she let down her defenses when a handsome mute tries to win her heart?

And even if she does, can Taranis’ love come without a death sentence?

My Review:
Awesome! I've read quite a few of Laura DeLuca’s works and have never been disappointed. Yes, I’m still a VERY happy camper! She’s an amazing writer that brings us very entertaining and amazing stories to escape with. Thunderstruck is this author’s first adult story and it’s original, sensual, romantic and emotional. A short that many fans of the genre will enjoy & crave more of!
Taran has been awaiting the other half of his soul for a very long time. It seems each time they meet, something goes completely wrong and they never get together. Will the next time (with more care and planning) be the last and finally successful time? Will Taran soul finally be complete? Read away to find out ;)
I hope there are more adult themed stories in the works from Laura! I know I’ll be snatching them up once I set eyes on them :)

#WedBriefs Flash Fiction Lady #20 by A.R. Von

Happy Hump Day and welcome to Wednesday Briefs Flash Fiction! As always, I was given various options to inspire this weeks brief. I chose to go with the 2 photos and 3 word prompts for this weeks LadyThe word prompts I used are: "You know what I want." use a source of light in some way, "Tastes soooo good.".

For those of you that have not read the prior week's portions and would like to. Click HERE to access them all.

I hope you enjoy & thank you for reading!

Dezso looks as if he’s opposed to my idea but takes more time to think about what I proposed. I continue to stare at him and try to get a feel for exactly where his mind is. I was frightened when I felt the darkness surface from within him. He looked like a completely different man, a stranger. So much evil was coming off of him in waves that I could not stand from where I landed on the floor during our practice. But I did not show it. I know darkness feeds off of negative energy. The lessons I’ve had thus far has taught me as much. I only hope I can generate enough positive for the both of us. His darkness grows stronger as days pass and I am naïve as to how to defeat it. We need the help of all that are willing.

“Fine Iria. I agree to it. But please just not right now. Right now, I just desire it to be you and I. We can go visit my uncle Dillon and explore his vineyards. It is beautiful there. We can have a meal with the sunset as well and see if he has found out anything else about how to find the amethyst. Then tomorrow, we can go find Tethys and see if we can gain an audience with the goddess. Hopefully, one or both of them will be willing to help us or lend us their wisdom.”
I’m glad Dezso is seeing reasoning to my idea and being agreeable. I would dislike an argument over something like this. It’s only meant to help him…not harm him after all.

He grabs my face and gives me a brilliant smile.  “Are you agreeable my love?” Briefly kissing me before I can even answer. I grab him as he begins to move away, pull him close so his lips are hovering before mine and whisper between kisses, “Yes, very much so.”

*****
MY uncle Dillon has found out nothing of much use to use except for one thing. He says there is a warlock who knows of a place where amethyst crystals can be found. But there’s no guarantee we’ll find one which holds such power as the one he has us looking for. Iria and I give our thanks and offer him to join us for a sunset meal. He declines and states he does not enjoy being a third wheel, at least for the moment. But will join us another time which we hope he means. He’s such a pleasant male, a very lonely one. But one who can make the saddest person smile in a heartbeat. He is truly treasured.

Iria and I bid our farewells and make way to a beautiful spot in the vineyards. I’ve always enjoyed coming here and filling my belly with grapes. I find the ripest bunch as we make our way to where I want to be, so I can feed them to Iria.

Settled and enjoying ourselves after such an unpleasant day is a wonderful thing. But I cannot quite get rid of the feeling of unease I’ve felt since the darkness breached. I want to enjoy the moment, so instead I take the grapes I’ve picked and offer them to Iria.
She lies upon my lap, her head on my stomach while she stares up at the sky.
I hover the grapes just above her lips. “A taste of my uncles finest grapes my love?”

Iria licks her lips and opens her mouth.
I then placed the fruit within her sensual mouth.
[image error]  She takes a grape and bites right in. It’s so juicy it squirts right onto her face. She startles. “Oh my Dezso! It tastes soooo good!”
This enthusiastic reaction is just what I expected I chuckle my pleasure at her words and feel blood rush to my groin. “Iria would you like to go home now to bathe and rest with me?”

She bubbles up a laugh which turns into a giggle. “Do you think me a fool my desire? I feel your sword of passion poking at my back. There will be no rest when we go home. But I am more than fine with that. I’d love to go home now.”
“You know what I want Iria? I want you naked upon our bed bathed in candlelight and covered with the juices from these grapes all over my favorite places, so I may remove them with my tongue and bring you the greatest pleasure.”She giggles again while moving to get up. We both swiftly pack what is left that we’ve brought and Iria begins to run the way towards our home. My face hurts from smiling so much and I cannot help but to think how incredible it feels and how happy Iria makes me.

I cannot run as quickly as she does while holding all of our things. So, I go at a fast walk with Iria in my sight at all times. I trip over a fallen branch and quickly look down as to regain my balance. When I look forward towards Iria again, she is gone. Nowhere to be seen. My heart begins to pound and my senses are on full alert. I swiftly drop our things and go to a full run in the direction I last saw Iria, while calling out her name. “Iria! IRIA! Where are you female? I hope this is not one of your games.” I’m at the spot I last saw her and come to a halt while looking all around me. Not seeing Iria or any sign she was here.

The sun is setting and it will soon be dark. I’m not comfortable that within the hour, the only source of light will be the moons crescent phase. Of course I can use my power to brighten my steps. But I fear for Iria. She’s not yet learned how to do something so small and yet so important with her power. It will be the next thing I show her once I find her. “Please my love, come to me. I’m not enjoying this game of yours.”

I pause to listen and I feel a pressure within my head. Someone or something is trying to get into my mind with a colossal force.

Be sure to come back for the next brief!

(This story continues to be dedicated to my one and only sister, my Pookie. Her love of unicorns from when we were tots is what inspired me to write it. Love you my sissy!)

Giveaway & cover reveal Drowning by Rachel Firasek

Blurb:

"I dare you."

Those words would change adrenaline junkie, Alice Harrison's life forever. She's a party girl that doesn't believe in love until she meets a man that only writes about it.
Seth James escaped his overbearing father and moved into one of the James family's vacant condos, hoping to create the music he loves in peace. But the fragile calm he's envisioned shatters when a tiny woman with a world full of energy bounces out of the elevator and nearly takes him out.
With the patience of a saint, Seth seeks the dark that keeps Alice from enjoying life. He challenges her to exorcise the demons in her past in order to discover the true meaning of love. But when the walls fall down, the hidden deceptions will bare the ugly truth about a woman drowning in sorrow and a man who may not know how to be her hero.

Excerpt
Alice
I race to the elevator, stab the button and it pings open. We live in an eight level condo with all the finery you can ask for. My “father” dabbles in oil, and Molly and her mother reap the benefits. Although, if Row had her way about it, Molly would be in a home right now and I’d be on the streets.
The floor drops beneath my feet and my stomach hiccups with the fall. I love it. It’s the same feeling I get when I jump. Cliff diving, sky diving—when I could afford it—even that time I jumped off the Sampson Street bridge onto the train and rode it through town gave me the same hiccup, only bigger. Much bigger and way more satisfying.
I’m still riding the sensation when the elevator doors glide open, and without waiting for a clear view, I rush out and smack into a wall of solid muscle only to immediately fall back into the closing doors. One strong forearm wraps around my waist while another zips past my face to keep the doors from shutting on my head. A firm thigh, still in a lunge move, cradles my hip. We pant in a diagonal position. I glance at his wide chest, up to his neck where veins bulge, and on to his chiseled chin covered by a dark stubble surrounding a perfect bottom lip that twitches but doesn’t lift.
Holy damn, he’s fucking beautiful and I’m jumping again. Jumping or falling. Not sure which is scarier.
He glances down and I freeze under his intense blue eyes. They aren’t glacier, cobalt, or any other pretty color. Just intensely blue. His gaze roams over my face, landing on my pierced eyebrow and he frowns.
Well, what do I care if he doesn’t like it?
I squirm, twisting against the heat of his abdomen, trying to right myself and leave the awkward comfort of his grip. “Uh, thanks.”
The air whooshes out of my lungs when he pulls me closer and helps me stand. “You should watch where you’re going.”
Really? Maybe he shouldn’t be freaking gorgeous. Then my body wouldn’t want to stay pressed against his. “And maybe you shouldn’t stand that close to the elevator doors.”
One dark brow arches. “Is that so?”
I shrug and edge past him. I don’t have time for a lecture and sure as hell won’t take one from a stranger that doesn’t have the sense to move out of the way for exiting traffic. I cross the foyer with the weight of his gaze on my back.
Don’t turn around. Don’t turn around.
I want to so bad.
The shiny silver lockboxes have never looked better. I stab in the key and slip out the three small letters from our slot.
Bill. Bill. Something from my father addressed to me.
He never speaks to me anymore—it seemed that as soon as I’d found my own will to stand my ground, he didn’t like me near as much as he used to proclaim. I palm the short stack and head back to the elevator where he waits.
He’s reclining against the buttons, one foot kicked back resting on the wall like he doesn’t have a care in the world, and he’s watching me. A frown tips down the edges of his bottom lip. I stop and tilt my head, matching his scowl. He crosses his arms over his chest and it further defines the muscles in his forearms, bare beneath his short sleeved t-shirt.
I slam my hand on my hip. “What?” I think I’m more pissed with myself for letting him get to me.
“Are you going to apologize?”
Was he serious? “For what?”
“You ran into me.”
“You were in the way. Besides, you weren’t hurt.” I tap my toe, growing more restless under his stare—and growing hotter with each spark blazing in his gaze. “Are you going to move?”
“No.” His lips lift up at the corner, but not all the way into a grin. He is enjoying this power play. Well, news flash buddy, I don’t do those. Unless I’m on top.
