When to Ignore Negative Feedback

I think we call all agree that getting feedback on our writing is very important.

Most of the time—whether it’s positive or negative, feedback serves to encourage or help us grow.

badreviews

We can learn a lot from negative feedback but this isn’t always the case.

Popular Spec-Fic Subgenres I’ll Never Write

As a speculative fiction writer, you’d think I’d try just about anything when it comes to writing a story. Maybe it’s a tad narrow-minded of me but there are subgenres that I just will not write.

I must admit that at first, the premise of Death Parade seemed a bit cheesy:

Whenever two people die at the same time, they are sent to one of many mysterious bars run by bartenders serving as arbiters. There, they are coerced into participating in Death Games with their lives on the line.

The result of the games reveal what secr...

FlashFic: Brand

becca

“Becca, eyes and ears please!”

The researcher fumbled with her earpiece. “Ah, sorry!”

She drew back, momentarily dizzied as her aural and optical implants reinitialized. When she opened her eyes again, Becca hopped out of the capsule. She swung her body downward, scanning the wild panorama laid out beneath them.

“How is it now, Sam?”

“Good.” Her partner’s voice crackled in her ear. “Ugh. I hate these suits.”

The newer models were better but it seemed, not much had been done to fix the lack of mane...

Ursula K. Le Guin’s Inspiring Message to Writers

Ursula K. Le Guin urges writers of science fiction and fantasy to remember why we write what we write, the importance of being true to our artform.
