A Writer Refueled

December is a month when I slow down with my writing, and this year, it was much needed. After three surgeries within a month, ten weeks of therapy, and the release of seven books in the last six months, I was more than ready to put my feet up, grab a cup of coffee—or Jameson depending on the time of day—light that cigar and kick back. I’m pretty sure I deserved it. Besides, it was by doctor’s orders, so I had a legitimate excuse. However, slowing down did not mean stopping, not by a long shot...

The Mess Reborn

When I started the transformation from magazine writing to self-publishing my fiction, the first thing I did was create a blog called, The Mess That Is Me. I thought it a fitting title for a chaotic mind. Most of the posts were my quirky observations on myself, my family and friends, and the people I saw around me. Nothing was off-limits, especially me. I took a tongue-in-cheek, smartass look at things everyone else saw as normal, I called out those things that just didn’t make sense, and I s...

The Best of Both Worlds

Christmas is here!!!! And Susanna Tawnie is hoping Santa Claus brings her everything she wants this year. She’s not really asking for much. Not really. She’s not asking for clothes, or new shoes, or a new car, or even a trip home to see her parents. She doesn’t want any of that. Not this year. To be honest, all she wants this Christmas is both of her roommates. That’s not asking for much, right? She’s not sure how she landed in this predicament, but Susanna has found herself in a relationship...

My Little Black Book

I admit it, and I’m not even embarrassed about it. I don’t hide it. I carry it with me wherever I go, right out in the open. It’s sitting beside me right now, as a matter of fact. In the guise of full disclosure, I’ll even confess that I had to purchase a new one because I had thumbed the other one raw. Besides, it was full, with no room for new additions, and there’s always new additions. I needed more space. Lots of it.It’s my little black book.Don’t worry; the girls know all about it. They...

The Destructive Force of Secrets

Rhychard Bartlett has a secret, a very big secret. We’re not talking about what he bought his mother for her birthday or whether Santa Claus is real or not. (For the record, Santa Claus is real. The North Pole is part of the faerie world.) No, we’re talking about a secret that, while he wishes he could tell someone, it’s for their safety that he must keep it. You see, Rhychard is a Warrior of the Way, a soldier in the battle between the Way and the Void, the Seelie and the Unseelie. He’s been...

Things Are Not As They Seem

It’s not just because the world is full of faeries, although for Rhychard Bartlett that has become a definite reality. It’s more than that. Much more. What Rhychard has been forced to realize is that the things he thought were true, the roles of good and evil predictable, were not as they should have been. They had been flipped; his viewpoints, even his beliefs, challenged. That was not only the way of the faerie world, but also the human world as well. Anyone who looked at Tryna would think...

2016 – An Author’s Year in Review

Every year, before New Year’s Day, we like to take a look back and see where we started, how we progressed, and even where we may have dropped the ball at times. While some may say that 2016 was a tumultuous year filled with bitterness, rage, and insecurity, for this author and his team, it was a year of progress and growth. The girls and I set out to accomplish some milestones, and for the most part we were quite successful. Let’s take a peek at some of the highlights.First, we saw the Fangi...

Christmas in Flip Flops

(A Throwback Post from the Mess That Is Me December 2012)I have a confession to make.  As much as I love this time of year with its Christmas music and festive lights, I’m finding it hard to get into the Christmas spirit.  I could be wrong, but it just might be because it’s ninety degrees outside and I’m in shorts and flip flops.  Okay, maybe not shorts because anyone who knows me knows I don’t wear shorts, but I do wear flip flops.  Well, I do sometimes.  Sometimes I just skip the shoes alto...

A Bullet Dodged

Standing at the front door, there was a churning in the pit of my stomach, a twisting resignation that I was saying goodbye to everything on the other side of that locked door. What was once a storm passing us far out in the Atlantic was now predicted to make landfall right on our coast, a coast one mile away from my front door. Now, before you think me melodramatic, let me assure you I believed what they were saying on the news channels. It was a Category 4 Hurricane and it had already done t...
