Children's Book Week Champion, Kid Lit Blog Hop & Sharing a Couple of Peter H Reynolds' Books
Yay, it is Kid Lit Blog Hop time!
Welcome to our post for Kid Lit Blog Hop #38.

Do you know that next week is Children's Book week? It is! Children's Book Week is celebrating it's 95th Anniversary this year. it is the annual celebration of books for young people and the joy of reading. As Children's Book Week Champions, we'll be joining the super fun Children's Book Week Kid Lit Giveaway Hop.
JOIN US: If you are a children's book or teen literature blogger, an author, a publisher or a publicist looking to share copies of a fabulous book, we invite you to join the paw-some Children's Book Week Kid Lit Giveaway Hop running all next week. You have less than two days (including today) to enter your giveaway! We'll be paw-ticipating with our fabulous Virtual Author Visit Giveaway. The Children's Book Week Kid Lit Giveaway Hop 2014 runs May 12 to 18. Mother Daughter Book Reviews and Youth Literature Reviews are joining forces to provide you with the opportunity to take part in the Giveaway Linky featuring links to giveaways for fabulous children/teen's books, gift cards, cash or other prizes. What better way to celebrate Children's Book Week! Click here to add your giveaway and sign-up now.
BOOK SHARING TIMEIf you have been following our blog for some time, you may already know that we are huge fans of Peter H. Reynolds and International Dot Day. Any event that encourages creativity, makes our paws dance. Way back in September we entered our Dot Day Blog Post into a contest and won! We won a copy of the Make Your Mark Kit, a copy of Ish as well as a couple of signed prints from Peter H. Reynolds - which now have spots on Neighbor Girl's wall.
The Make Your Mark Kit includes two paw-riffic books: The Dot and The Blank Book as well as a pack of watercolor pencils for your own creations.
The Kit was a huge hit around here. We continue to read The Dot and Ish over and over. Both books are short and sweet with a message that creativity doesn't have a right or wrong way to do things. You just need to start and keep going.
The Dot
Cool Mom shares her thoughts on this book in an earlier post. Click here to read that now.
Ish
Neighbor Girl loves this book. The story is about a young boy, Ramon, whose creativity is crippled by one critical comment from his older brother. Ramon's love of drawing is destroyed when he begins to believe that everything must be perfect. It takes his younger sister, who creates a gallery of his crumpled artwork in her bedroom, to allow Ramon the freedom to be creative again.
I love this book because all of my own drawings are "ish". Would you like some clarity on what I am talking about? Head to the library or bookstore and read the book for yourself so that you also may live "ishfully ever after."

Mighty Dads $50 Book Blast Hosted by Mother Daughter Book Reviews (Ends 5/31/14)
About the BookTitle: Mighty Dads Author: Joan Holub Illustrator: James DeanPublication Date: April 29, 2014 Publisher: Scholastic Pages: 40 Recommended Ages: 3+ Summary: A new constructacular picture book from the New York Times bestselling creator of Pete the Cat, James Dean and bestselling author, Joan Holub. Mighty dads, strong and tall, help their children, young and small. They keep them safe and bolted tightand show them how to build things right.Inventively told through James Dean's colorful construction vehicle characters, MIGHTY DADS is an adoring dedication to hardworking fathers and the subtle ways they teach their boys and girls to follow in their tracks. The Dump Trucks learn to get dirty. Crane keeps his little one safe from harm. The busy Cement Mixer gives his daughter a hug. The Forklift cheers his son on. A surprising and touching view of a father's love for his children, MIGHTY DADS is the perfect way to say: I'm proud of you! Book Trailer PurchaseAmazon | Barnes and Noble | Book Depository (free worldwide delivery)Also available at Walmart, Target, and Barnes & Noble stores. The Buzz"Like the best 21st-century human dads, the vehicles don’t just show their kids the ropes—they also offer plenty of TLC (“Cement Mixer Busy/ gives a hug if Mixie’s dizzy”) and affirmation (“Forklift Wise/ cheers whenever Forky tries”). Dean’s decision to anthropomorphize the construction equipment solely through a highly stylized, often single, forward-facing eye takes some getting used to—imagine a cross between the Eye of Providence on the dollar bill and a Egyptian hieroglyph. But his construction sign–inspired palette and ability to convey calm, steady affection between parent and progeny quickly outweighs this visual idiosyncrasy, making this a book worthy of any young armchair foreman." ~ Publisher's Weekly"This will make a good read aloud for those looking to update their trucks/machines storytimes." ~ Goodreads Review "The simple rhyming text will be fun at read alouds as children can do motions (roll, roll, roll or smooth, smooth, smooth)" ~ Goodreads Review
