Coming Soon!

I just finished writing the first draft of Harper and Phoenix's story, which was set up at the end of my last book, Second Nature. It was originally going to be called Second Thoughts, but nah, there are no second thoughts here. :) So instead, I've changed the name to His Assistant.

Here's a look at the cover, by designer Angsty G.

That model is exactly how I pictured Phoenix, my main character!

If all goes well, my team and I should be able to move through edits quickly, and I'm planning to make it available the last weekend of November on Amazon. I also hope to do a pre-order if time allows. I'll update this blog with more information as soon as things are nailed down.

Finally, here's a peek at the rough draft of the blurb for His Assistant. It might change a bit by the final version, but you get the idea. :)

I knew going to work for movie star and party boy Harper Royce was a mistake.

It was a bigger mistake to sleep with him, but here we are.

At least this situation is temporary. I’m on the verge of a major breakthrough with my musical career, and then my days of working as a personal assistant are over. As long as I don’t fall for Harper, this should all work out just fine.

If only he wasn’t drop-dead gorgeous, but I can resist a pretty face. When he starts showing me his vulnerable side, though? Well, now I’m in trouble.

This light-hearted, opposites attract gay romance features a spoiled Hollywood A-lister, his long-suffering assistant, and a loopy chicken. It’s set in the world of Alexa Land’s Firsts and Forever and His Chance Series, but it absolutely can be read as a stand-alone.

Halloween Sale

In honor of Halloween, I put all three books in my lighthearted paranormal California Obscura Series on sale for 99 cents each for a limited time. They're also available on Kindle Unlimited. The books feature a snarky vampire hunter, a clueless warlock, and more. Each book can be read as a stand-alone, or they can be enjoyed in order.

Here's the link to all three books on Amazon: Series Link

What's Next? You Tell Me

I'm happily working my way through Second Thoughts, which is the light, funny story of a personal assistant (Phoenix) and a movie star (Harper, introduced in my last book). I hope to have it for you in November if all goes according to plan.

The thing that's a little odd is that, for the first time in my seven-year career, I don't know what I want to write next.

I'm very much a "write what inspires me" author. It just doesn't work for me to randomly plan ahead to write a certain character at a certain time. I need to have that spark, that "a-ha moment" where the next story clicks into place for me.
That's why it took me ages to write Gabriel's story. I had to wait for it to click, which it finally did when one of my readers gave me a great idea for his love interest (the result of that is Second Nature, my most recent release).
So, if there's a story/character/couple you've been wishing for, now is a really good time to throw it at me. You never know what might be the thing that makes me shout, "Yes! That's my next book!" Emails are always welcome at AlexaLandWrites at gmail, and I also encourage you to join the discussion in my Facebook reader's group.

September Check-In

September was a challenging month. On the first day of school, a fire broke out on the edge of town and we were put on standby to evacuate. The fire ended up traveling north, away from my town, and it decimated two neighboring communities. The damage it did is truly heartbreaking, and it's going to be tough for those communities to rebuild. Several lives, over 2,375 homes, and 100 businesses were lost. These are small towns, so a huge percentage of people were affected.

I got lucky because my town and my home were spared, but that scared the hell out of me. I'm a single mom who lives with chronic pain and mobility issues, and all of a sudden I was faced with the possibility of having to evacuate and potentially losing everything. We were on standby to leave for days, because it took a while to get the fire under control, and conditions were perfect for additional fires to break out. My stress level was through the roof, and to make matters worse, the air quality here was so hazardous from the smoke that we couldn't open a window or set foot outside.

Facing something like that really makes you evaluate your priorities. All I cared about was getting my kid, my cat, and my dog out of the house and getting us all to safety. The only item I wanted to take along was my laptop, because that's where all the books I've written are stored, and it's what allows me to continue my writing career, which means the world to me. Everything else is just stuff.

Before the fires, I'd gotten off to a great start on my next book. It's called Second Thoughts, and it's a fun, lighthearted story about a movie star and his personal assistant. Now that things have settled down, I've been trying to get the book flowing again.

Like I said, we were lucky. But that was truly one of the most stressful times of my life.

Pre-order Now Available!

My latest book, Second Nature, is available for pre-order and will release on August 29th. This is Gabriel's story. He's a character I introduced in my Firsts and Forever Series about four years ago, so his HEA has been a long time coming!

Here's the description that appears on Amazon:

The last time I saw Gabriel, he was putting me on a bus and sending me to some relatives I’d never met, with the hope of a fresh start after rehab.

That was four years ago.

Now he’s back in my life. I’ve wanted him for years, while he’s always thought of me as just a friend. This is my one shot at turning our friendship into so much more.

But how do I convince him I’m the man he needs, and not the broken boy he used to know?

Second Nature is book two in Alexa Land’s His Chance Series, which is a spinoff of her best-selling Firsts and Forever Series. Firsts and Forever readers will recognize some familiar faces, but this gay romance can be read as a stand-alone.

Instagram Hacked

My Instagram account was hacked on August 3rd, and they messaged my followers. I never message from IG, so if you receive any messages from me please report them. This is a scam!

Second Nature Update

I'm still working on Second Nature, book two in my new His Chance Series, which is a Firsts and Forever Series spin-off. I'm hoping to have it out in late August, and I'll let you know when that date gets nailed down.
In the meantime, here's a look at the cover featuring Riley, who we met in Second Act, and my first pass at a blurb:

The last time I saw Gabriel, he was putting me on a bus and sending me to some relatives I’d never met, with the hope of a fresh start after rehab.
That was four years ago.
