Interview with Author B. Addler

Please see my amazon associate note about the links in this article.

I love reading books and stories written by self-published authors. While they sometimes lack the polish of stories put out by publishing houses (both the traditional giants and the smaller, independent and niche presses) I find that often they more than make up for it in the freshness of the authors’ voices and ideas. One such story that I found and read last year was Penetration Fascination by B. Addler. The story was ed...

This year's Lairnia Summary (Part 1)

Picture What's Lairnia, you ask? Well, if you've been following my tweets over the New Year holidays, you already know, but if not, here's the slightly longer explanation. For over ten years now, my husband and I have had a New Year's tradition. We build ourselves a "lair" in the living room - in front of the TV and underneath the Christmas tree - and we "check out" of society. We don't make plans to go out and we try not to answer the phone. It's our time to stay in bed and watch movies.

At first La...

Crying over spilled milk

Sometimes it's really appropriate to cry over spilled milk - like when it's cereal milk that you spilled over a corner fo the keyboard of your netbook. Yeah. I know I should have been more careful, but it's too late now.

In a way, I should be grateful that the damage wasn't more extensive. I didn't lose any files and the computer is still functioning normally - for the most part. Initially there was a weird glitch where I could either turn on the wifi or use the keyboard, but not both. This ba...

That's so gay! (In the Gay is Good way)

Picture I know, I know - the phrase "That's so gay!" is usually not something any member or ally of the LGBTQ community wants to hear, mostly because it's normally not used in a positive way. So imagine my surprise when I turned on my radio this morning and heard the phrase on WBEZ (the Chicago NPR affiliate). I kept listening for the condemnation, but it wan't forthcoming. Instead, I learned that "That's so gay!" is a new trivia game about LGBTQ history.

Based on the sample question, this is defi...

Big recognition for my YA novel

My YA novel made the top 3 YA LGBTQ list on Greedy Bug Book Reviews. I blogged about it on my YA blog and you can read the post on GreedyBug itself, so I won't go on too much here, except to say that for as an unknown, self-published, first-time YA author, this is the kind of honor that I didn't even fantasize about, much less hope for. Josh reads and reviews a lot of LGBTQ YA books and I really respect his thoughtful and insightful reviews, especially because he doesn't hesitate to offer con...

Christmas in the house

Picture I know this tree seems a little puny, but it's the smallest of many trees we put up this year throughout the house. For pictures of three of the others, including the other (and bigger) dining room tree, hop over to this post on my YA fiction blog.
