Traditional Narrative and Digital Storytelling – San Diego Comic Con Special Guest Pics!

Huge thanks to San Diego Comic Con for having me as a special guest speaker once again at their mega-event. This was the sixth consecutive year that I have spoken at SDCC, and every year I have met not only engaging staff, fantastic collaborators, but also, out-of-this-world fans.

Special thanks to Cameron Dayton (Sledgehammer Games; Etherwalker), Adam G. Simon (Screenwriter; Man Down; Point Blank), and Eric Kieron Davis (Star Citizen) for joining me on stage for this fantastic discussion on storytelling.

Here are the special guest pics I received from talented photographer, Michael Pluff @jmprunner. He shot these during our Traditional Narrative and Digital Storytelling panel!

Our Digital Future; Connect; Minecraft; Julian Gough guest-stars on Gamer’s Dominion podcast!

My podcast interview with Julian Gough is live! We discuss his novel, Connect (available today, August 14th, 2018), plus, the ups and downs and sideways of our digital future, and the mega-hit-game, Minecraft!

For some background information: Julian Gough,  the author of four acclaimed novels, two BBC radio plays, a successful stage play, and the ending to Time Magazine’s 2011 computer game of the year, Minecraft, which has sold over 140 million copies. He also sang with underground literary pop band Toasted Heretic. They released four albums, and had a top ten hit with the single “Galway and Los Angeles”, a song about not kissing Sinead O’Connor.

He won the largest prize in the world for a single short story (the BBC National Short Story Award) in 2007, and was shortlisted for the Everyman Bollinger Wodehouse Prize in 2008, and again in 2011, for his linked novels Jude in Ireland, and Jude in London. His poetry collection, Free Sex Chocolate, was published in 2010. In 2013, he had a UK number one Kindle Single with the comic novella CRASH!

His three children’s books, starring Rabbit & Bear (and illustrated by Jim Field), are published in 20 languages. The first and second of these (Rabbit’s Bad Habits, and The Pest in the Nest) were shortlisted for Irish Book of the Year Awards in 2016 and 2017. He now lives in Berlin, from which base he blogs, twitters, and steals pigs. (photgraphy credit to Juliana Socher)

Huge thanks to Julian Gough and to Emma at Penguin Random House, Nan A. Talese/Doubleday Books, and to Random House.

Syd Mead speaks with me about his Progressions Exhibit and Oblagon AR app

Hear artist-legend, Syd Mead, discuss his PROGRESSIONS exhibit, (showcased at SIGGRAPH 2018), plus his outlook on the innovative AR app, Oblagon, which has a unique way of enhancing the art-viewing experience!

Illustrator and concept artist, Syd Mead, is regarded as one of the most accomplished and widely respected artists and industrial designers alive today. With a unique vision for forward-looking designs, Mead’s artwork can be found in various beloved intellectual properties such as Blade Runner and Aliens. Syd Mead is considered a visual futurist and is constantly challenging the boundaries of the art experience. One example of this is an augmented reality app, OBLAGON, which will be featured in conjunction with Syd Mead’s PRORESSIONS exhibit at SIGGRAPH 2018. To learn more, visit SydMead.comSiggraph.org; and search “Oblagon AR” in the Apple or Google Play stores.

Gnomon Workshop: One of the highlights at SIGGRAPH this year is the PROGRESSIONS exhibition. What excites you about this exhibit?

Syd Mead: The PROGRESSIONS exhibition is a celebration of my career creating images for a wide range of clients, starting with some images from my design school assignments, so it really is ‘progression’ from initial beginnings to professional career. Oddly, viewing the exhibition as mounted was the first time I’d seen the full range of my work all at once!

Listen in: Omensight’s Murder-Mystery Development

Get a load of this! Spearhead Games and I have a chat about Omensight on Gamer’s Dominion podcast where we dive in to the development and writing behind this murder-mystery, action-adventure game. I was the co-writer for this game alongside Nadim Boukhira, and incredible talent, Chris Avellone, was the Script Doctor. There are so many cool details and twists we incorporated into the plot, that it truly makes for a roller-coaster-gaming experience. Huge thanks to the whole team at Spearhead Games for having me on the project, especially to Atul Mehra, Malik Boukhira, Philip Tam, Nadim Boukhira, and Chris Avellone for their inclusion. You can find Omensight on Steam and Playstation, and to hear our in-depth chat on the game’s murder-mystery development, copy and paste the following link via Assembly of Geeks network: https://www.assemblyofgeeks.com/the-gamers-dominion/omensight-by-spearhead-games

San Diego Comic Con Schedule

Looking forward to my appearances at the San Diego Comic Con July 22-24, 2016!

It’s such a pleasure to collaborate with so many incredible artists, writers, and creatives and I’m so grateful that events such as comic cons bring us all together. Last year I hosted six panels at San Diego Comic Con while breastfeeding my little one and while traveling back and forth by train after each day. It was a fantastic time but also extrememly tiring.

This year I’m hoping to take it a bit easier, although I just rescued a baby bird and my one-and-a-half-year-old is still nursing so it will still be a lot of work juggling everything, hehe.

With luck from a great big wishing star, I hope to see you at the show! Here are the panels I’ll be hosting/speaking on at San Diego Comic Con 2016!
