Advocating for a learner-centered approach often brings up the question, “Won’t my kids just play video games all day?” Although the answer to that is multi-faceted, we know that no experience is devoid of learning. And, in fact, some may have more opportunities for development than we first believe. Join our special guests Genese Davis (The Holder’s Dominion, MMORPG.com, The Gamer In You,) Eric Kieron (Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo,) Ash Monif (CEO and co-founder:Grimm Bros Game Studio) and Bryan Tillman (Owner – Kaiser Studio; Lead Artist - Dark Legacy: The Rising) discuss the benefits and potential drawbacks to video games and how to navigate both. This high-powered panel will plunge into video game culture and its social development divulging how video games affect our lives and education.

Bryan Tillman

Bryan Tillman is currently the academic director for Game Art and Design, Visual Effects and Motion Graphics, Media Arts and Animation and Visual Game Programming at the Art Institute of Washington DC. He has an MFA from the Savannah College of Art and Design, with a focus in sequential art and a minor in drawing. Tillman is the owner and CEO of the Kaiser Studio Productions, a production studio for comics, toys, animation, and games. Within Kaiser Studio Productions, Bryan Tillman wears many hats: He is a sculptor for toys, and acts as the editor for all the comic books produced by the studio. He also does layout and illustrations for multiple projects. Tillman is currently working on a tabletop RPG titled Dark Legacy that is starting to make waves within the RPG world. Eric Kieron

Eric Kieron is an award-winning producer for film, theater, video games, web, and literary genres. He is passionate about producing high quality, creative content built to entertain. He is a cinematics producer for Blizzard Entertainment, and is the founder of the film production company, Sleepwalker Studios. As a director, he focuses on the creative vision of the project aiming to intrigue and excite an audience. As a producer, he has led teams from concept to completion on a number of premium projects. Ash Monif

Ash Monif is the co-founder and CEO of Grimm Bros, a video game studio currently developing the upcoming RPG title Dragon Fin Soup. Ash Monif become a creative in order to share ideas and connect with others. Monif attended Cogswell College, which at the time was the only school to get an accredited degree in game design. After earnestly applying himself to learn storytelling, digital art, project management, and game design, Monif combined all of these elements and founded and led a team of students to build games. Monif and his team became a finalist in the 2003 IGF showcase. This event launched their careers into the game industry. Monif has worked across the entire spectrum of the game industry from massive publishers to indie developers with past game credits including Sims 2, Lord of the Rings: TTA, James Bond: FRWL, Fort Courage, TinkerBox, Fieldrunners, Mercenaries 2, and Doki Doki Universe. MARV WOLFMAN

Marv Wolfman started writing because of his love for comics. Many of his characters have been turned into movies, TV, toys and animation. He has created more characters that have been adapted into movies, TV and animation than any other comics writer with the exception of Stan Lee. The New Teen Titans, which Wolfman co-created with artist George Pérez back in 1980, has been a major hit on the Cartoon Network for five seasons. Although different from the comic, aimed more at the younger crowd than the high school/college age audience, it still features the characters, Starfire, Cyborg and Raven as well as Titans greats such as Robin and Changeling. Many of the villains appear in the series, as well, from Trigon to Slade Wilson – Deathstroke The Terminator, The Hive, Mammoth, Gizmo, Thunder and Lightning and many, many more. Meredith Moriarty is a freelance artist living in Philadelphia, PA. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 2011 and has since collaborated with a variety of clients in the fields of comics, illustration, and web design. Her credits include pinups in the award-winning series Princeless, and art for the iOS game Roxy Dark and the Spydrs. Her latest work, Once Upon a Time, is a fairy tale alphabet book for young readers

Tracie Ching

Tracie Ching is a self-taught graphic designer. In 2011 she joined the design team for VC Ultimate, the premier ultimate frisbee apparel company, later becoming the Lead Designer and Creative Director in 2012. Simultaneously, Ching has produced licensed posters for properties such as Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, AMC’s The Walking Dead, Doctor Who, and Community, and Ching’s limited edition silk screen prints of alternative movie posters have garnered critical acclaim. Andrew Auseon

Andrew Auseon is a novelist and narrative designer based in Washington, D.C. He has written for the Infinity Blade and Age of Empires franchises, and was a Lead Narrative Designer on games in the Kingdoms of Amalur series. He was the first staff game writer ever hired by both Epic Games and Big Huge Games. Andrew’s novels include the acclaimed Funny Little Monkey, and Freak Magnet, a Bank Street Best Book of the Year, among others. In 2009, he published Alienated, a science fiction comedy, in collaboration with Academy Award-nominated filmmaker David O. Russell (American Hustle, Silver Linings Playbook). Andrew currently splits his time between writing novels and indie games, and teaching courses in Interactive Narrative.

Rob Paulsen

Rob Paulsen is a voice actor well-known for animated characters including Raphael of the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” Arthur in “The Tick,” the title role in “The Mask,” the title role in “Mighty Max,” Carl Wheezer in “Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius,” Jack Fenton in “Danny Phantom,” and Bobble in the “Tinkerbell” series. Paulsen’s extensive credits include on-camera roles in numerous motion pictures including Body Double, Stewardess School, Eyes of Fire, The Perfect Match, and Warlocked. His television acting credits include guest-starring roles on MacGyver and St. Elsewhere. Additionally, he is one of the most sought-after voice actors in the commercial arena, performing in over 1000 of commercial spots. Paulsen won a Daytime Emmy in 1999 as “Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program” for Pinky and The Brain (Warner Bros.) Though nominated twice previously, the victory was especially sweet due to some formidable competition – fellow nominees Louie Anderson, Ernest Borgnine, Dennis Franz and Jeffery Tambor. In addition to his Emmy, Rob won back-to-back Annie Awards in 1997 and 1998.

Genese Davis

Genese Davis is an American author, host, columnist and media personality. She is the author of The Holder’s Dominion, a next-generation video game thriller heralded as a breakthrough novel by Publishers Weekly. Davis is the founder of The Gamer in You and was recently awarded IGR Woman of the Year. She is a featured columnist at MMORPG.com and appears internationally for literary and entertainment events all over the world. Adam Simon

Adam Simon is a native Californian that began acting at an early age. Fresh out of college minoring in theater Adam began working as a Close Protection Specialist. While training as an actor, Adam offered protective services to business professionals and celebrities all around the world. In 2010 Adam was hired as a 3D technical assistant at Cameron/Pace Group LLC in Burbank California (founded by legendary directors and cinematographers James Cameron and Vince Pace). Adam worked as a Sales Producer for Cameron/Pace while attending the Joanne Baron D.W. Brown School of acting in Santa Monica California to further develop his craft. While attending their two year intensive Meisner Program, Adam continued to write and sell scripts. Adam acts in film and television productions and continues to develop his innate talent as an actor and screenwriter. Adam wrote and starred in “Synapse,” a Sci Fi thriller which is produced by Hollywood Locations and L.A. Center Studios with Kenlon Clark Directing. Adam is also the writer of “Man Down,” a film in pre production with Stephen Mceveety and Mpower Pictures producing and Dito Monteil directing.


Brandon T. Snider

Brandon T. Snider has authored the best-selling Dark Knight Manual as seen in Entertainment Weekly, Time, Forbes and Wired. He’s also written for and appeared on Comedy Central’s Inside Amy Schumer. Brandon has penned over 30 books featuring pop culture’s most recognizable icons such as Superman, Spider-Man and The Muppets among many others. As an actor he’s appeared on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Chappelle’s Show and Law & Order: SVU, as well as various commercials, stage productions and short films. Roderick Brown

Roderick Kendall Brown graduated from Emory University with a degree in Liberal Studies and African-American Studies. It wasn’t long before others started to see what Brown was trying to create and joined what Brown calls the Native Comics Crew. Brown and his Crew began to participate in art festivals, road races, expos and elementary, junior high and high school events, showing kids and adults alike, that having a positive mindset can lead you to a better understanding of all people. Brown also graduated from the Art Institute of Atlanta with honors in technical expertise for Graphic Art and Design. Native Comics continues to grow and expand creating imaginative storylines and colorful characters.


Gabe Smith

Gabe Smith is a screenwriter and independent comic book publisher from Venice Beach, California. Smith is the Creative Director and Owner of Human Comics, a publishing company whose works have been internationally distributed through Diamond Distributions. Human Comics is also based in Venice Beach, California.
