Review: Wildfire Gospel (Santeria Habitat #3) by Kenya Wright
I am so freakin' excited to be posting this review. I know I am excited all the time when it comes to reviews...but this one...
This book is one that I have been waiting for and I lucked out in getting to edit it! Dream come true, for real.
SO here is the cover and a bit about the book...
LANORE'S TO-DO LIST#1- Set Dante on fire until he’s nothing but smoke and ash.
#2- Find Nona and Mother Earth, tie them to a tree, and create the biggest bonfire Santeria has ever seen.
#3- Find out if there is anybody higher in Mother Earth's psychotic chain of command.
#4- Burn anybody else to a crisp if they get in my fucking way.
Lanore destroys her old beliefs of nonviolence. Flames of revenge now fuel her movements forward. Too many of her loved ones have died, and she's done shedding tears. Sadly, she can't boil Dante's blood just yet. He has the resources to help her and Zulu. Discovering Mother Earth's whereabouts is proving more difficult than expected. She's not what they thought she was. She's something more.
Meanwhile, Lanore's father is missing. Normally, that wouldn't trigger stress, but whispers are spreading around the habitat like a wildfire. A Demon with feline eyes and fire-spotted cheetah skin appeared at the Masquerade Ball right after MeShack was killed. Lanore hopes her father will have some answers.
Is this Demon only a coincidence? Is Lanore just grasping at a last bit of hope that somehow MeShack is alive, or should she face the truth of his death.
My Review:
Since this book isn't out yet I won't be posting any spoilers (even though I freakin' want to.) I've decided that instead of writing a full on review, I'm going to let the gifs speak for me.
This is how I felt at the end of the last book.

How I felt reading Wildfire Gospel.

My overall final reaction:

Kenya Wright is an evil mastermind. This book is EVERYTHING I wanted it to be, and at the same time it was nothing I expected.
So go and read it...if not, I will get Lanore to burn you. ;)
Rating:
FIVE AWESOME STARS!

Beta Readers Wanted!!
Hey loves! I have a couple of beta readers for my upcoming release Skin Deep, but I'm looking for a few more brave souls who are willing to be brutally honest with me.
My publisher--the wonderful Dragonfairy Press--has set aside the third week of September for Beta reading.
If you are interested please email me at MeggieM823@gmail.com :-)
A little about the book:
What would you do to have the body of your dreams?
Kiera hates being overweight and hides behind thick layers of clothing. One night, her friends present an opportunity that seems impossible to believe. With a single spell, she can have the thin physique she’s always coveted.
But all magic comes with a price: no sex or she’ll revert back to her old body. Kiera accepts the cost. It’s not like she has men lined up at her door. Obeying this one tiny rule isn’t difficult at all—until the night she meets Cain, a were-tiger and a soldier with the Eternal Forces.
When a slew of unexplained murders forces Kiera and Cain together, they’ll have to face the horrors of their pasts. Will Kiera realize she is worth more than her outward appearance? Or will she make the wrong the choice and lose everything—including her life?

Review: Wanderlust by Skye Warren
It's 3:18am and I am writing a review. This happens to me sometimes. Though this book is on a level I have never ventured. Seriously.
Blurb:
Can love come from pain?
Evie always dreamed of seeing the world, but her first night at a motel turns into a nightmare. Hunter is a rugged trucker willing to do anything to keep her—including kidnapping. As they cross the country in his rig, Evie plots her escape, but she may find what she's been looking for right beside her.
My Review:

I have read a lot of books over the course of my life that have imprinted themselves on me in a certain way and made me feel certain things that were overwhelming to a certain degree, but no book as ever made me feel quite this way. Torn. Afriad. Happy. Completely bewildered...the list goes on.
Oh, and yes, there will be spoilers! Muahahahaha!

I keep asking myself this question over and over again. And I'm not sure. I started reading this book earlier in the night, just planning to start it before bed and that was all. But now I'm finished...and all I can say is...wow.
Wanderlust deals with a lot of things that romance novels try to indefinitely stay away from. The front runner being rape. Mrs. Warren does not shy away from it, not even a little.

You're just as shocked as I am.
Especially because the relationship between the hero and heroine of this novel is based on a twisted barely consensual sexual relationship that just seems to get even more corrupt as we follow Evie and Hunter down the rabbit hole.
I liked Evie's character a lot. She had to deal with a lot of hardship in her lifetime which seems to only get worse when she meets Hunter. At first Hunter comes off as this psychotic truck driver, though his character evolves to be anything but what he seems to be in the beginning. It becomes clear that he treats Evie the way he does, to prove something to himself--that he is the monster the world thought him to be.
Which kind of sucks for everyone in this situation.
Even though this relationship bordered on rape, both characters craved what they received from the other (this sounds so effed up, I know) and both were able to find themselves through the messed up sexual and eventually, emotional connection they form. It was mutually beneficial for both, even if they didn't see it that way in the beginning.

What I didn't like about the book--
Evie was raped by her mom's boyfriend. She ends up in this twisted borderline non-consensual relationship with Hunter. I can understand and accept the twisted nature of these things, but there is a point in the book where Evie gets away from Hunter and is raped AGAIN by some boys that she meets on a beach.

And then an old man shoots and kills them both, but not before they could rape and beat the crap out of her. Sigh. Poor Evie. She is like a rape magnet. No joke. If I had been sheltered my entire life and read this book, I would be terrified to go into public for fear that every man I came into contact with would try to rape me.

Overall, I found this book really entertaining. I love books with damaged characters--especially when both have emotional and psychological problems. Ms. Warren definitely hit the nail on the head with that one. I cheered for Evie and Hunter even when I was tempted not to--even when during the times when I thought they were both ridiculous and stupid. I wanted them to be together because they both deserved happiness and I am so glad they got it.
I give Wanderlust FOUR stars.

Review: On Demon Wings by Karina Halle
About the book:
When the life you wanted has crumbled beneath your fingers, there’s nothing left to do but pick up the pieces and soldier on. You’ve done this before.
But what happens when you no longer feel like yourself anymore? When fires spontaneously start-up around you, when you hear growling coming from underneath your bed, and you no longer recognize your face in the mirror. What happens then?
Ghost-hunter Perry Palomino doesn’t have much time to find out. Now, the evil she used to hunt is a lot closer to home. It’s inside of her, taking over her life bit-by-terrifying bit, and there’s only one person who can help her.
If part of her doesn’t kill him first.
My Review:
It's no secret that I have been reading the Experiment in Terror series by Karina Halle and absolutely loving them and I feel no differently about this book. I have to admit that it is extremely different from the other books. If I thought the other books were dark than this one was born in the pits of hell.
(And I mean that in a good way, really.)The story-line before now was more of a fun and rather innocent journey. Perry and Dex expanded their relationship through their YouTube ghost hunter show called Experiment in Terror. But all innocence died with the ending of Lying Season (EIT #4). Perry's character has evolved like no other character I have ever read. The reader gets to see Perry at the lowest point in her life and gets to experience the fright of the things that are going on around her. Perry questions her sanity and Halle does a fabulous job of putting the reader in Perry's shoes.
I was questioning my own sanity while I read this book. (I know, I should have questioned it long before now, lol).
Of course questioning my lucidity isn't the only thing this book invoked. I was absolutely shit-my-pants terrified for the ENTIRE book.
I'm freaking serious. I actually made this exact face and ran from my kindle into a bunch of coats more than once while reading this book.
As an overall look at the book--I loved it. Granted it didn't have enough Dex in it, but I understand why. The things that happen in this book are MAJOR, people. MAJOR! I am so excited to read Old Blood (EIT #5.5) which is Pippa's story. In fact I think I will start it tonight.
I give On Demon Wings FIVE stars!
I purchased this on Amazon. :)

Reading and writing go hand in hand and from the day I could read, I enjoyed writing. To put pen to paper and conjure up weird and wonderful little stories was what I thrived on! English was my favourite class at school right throughout to secondary - and I will always be thankful for the teachers who gave me the opportunities to develop and be creative! If I remember rightly, one of my first stories was called 'The Turkey Who Could Talk'...but I'll tell you more about that some other day :-) Author Linkshttps://www.facebook.com/samantha.darling.9828https://twitter.com/samanthav1986

Review: Complicated by You by Kenya Wright
So I read this book today and I am knots--TOTAL knots people. It made me happy, horny, angry, and then slightly psychotic because I need to know what happens. I can't wait until I read the next book. Seriously people! I CAN'T wait!
First here is a little about the book...
Evie's childhood friend Jay has always had her back. But college complicates things as Jay starts dating Evie's roommate Cynthia. Now, Evie spends her nights trying to sleep while Jay and Cynthia go at it like rabbits a few feet away!
Evie hates feeling like a third wheel and hates wishing it was her in Jay's arms even more. It doesn't help that Jay won't let Evie date or even hook up withoutinterfering and making sure everyone on campus knows that she's off limits.
Something has to give. Evie can't continue pining away for Jay, and Jay can't continue to act like he owns her when he won't so much as touch her. And worse of all, Evie can barely look Cynthia in the eye for fear she will know just how she feels about Jay.
Then one night shifts Evie, Jay and Cynthia into an web of love and deceit, tangling their hearts and forcing one of them to come to a compromise that will change all their lives.
My Review:
Prepare yourself...There will be spoilers, spoilers, and more spoilers!!
Seriously.
I like Evie's character a lot. She is very likable and has a good head on her shoulders. She has loved her best friend Jay since they were kids, but thought that he would never love her back...until she finds out that she is completely wrong about this. Jay has really loved her all along. He can't stand the idea of her being with someone else and sets out to sabotage any other relationships--sexual or otherwise--that she tries to take part in.
BUT of course he has a totally beautiful girlfriend named Cynthia. He doesn't want to break up with Cynthia because he is afraid that it will hurt her feelings...
I want to smack him in his super attractive face. Like, for real. Who cares if you hurt her feelings?! Hurt them already!I get that Jay doesn't want to be a bad person...but prolonging the situation just makes it worse. BUT then something totally cray happens. Cynthia (Jay's girlfriend) approaches Jay and Evie with a proposition. She wants to have a joint relationship...
Jay thinks it is a fabulous idea. Which, I mean, DUH, of course he does. Thank the lord Evie has some sense and thinks it's ridiculous, but that doesn't stop her from agreeing to it!
I understand where she is coming from, I mean she wants the guy...but she is going to have to share him. I couldn't do it. Jay would be mine and there would be no if, ands, or buts about it. Unless he wanted me to remove his testicles by force...but of course that is different post for a different day... ;)
The book ends on a happy note, with the promise of more drama and craziness to come in the strange triangle relationship. I will definitely be picking up the next book. No doubt about it. Kenya pulls you into the story and makes you want to know more, no matter how f'ed up you might think the situation is she makes you believe that there is potential for anything and everything to work and fall apart all at once. I can't wait for the next installment. I hope that Jay comes to his senses and leaves Cynthia. I just can't wait to find out!!
With all of this being said--I give Complicated by You 4 stars!
I purchased this book on Amazon. Get your copy today, it's only $1.29!

Boarding by DD Symms
I am pleased to welcome the wonderful DD Symms on my blog today. He is going to be discussing his recent release Boarding, which is a fashion erotica novel! I had the pleasure of being the content editor on this book, and I know just how marvelous and hot it is! Definitely take the time to check it out!
Hi Megan and thanks for hosting me!
I'm the last person to write a novel about a fashion designer but I did and had a blast delving into the characters.
Boarding, Book 1 of The Jessie Carter Fashion Series: True Friends are Life's Greatest Pleasure
Jessie Carter wants to do more than design for a cheap lingerie company and while visiting in New York City she gets a chance to design for a supermodel she admires.
Her boyfriend doesn't like it and tries to sabotage her efforts and she has to fend off a gossip columnist who gets wind of the model's kinky desires and wants to dish the dirt.
Boarding reveals Jessie's struggle with her boyfriend through her sexuality. Early we see her trying to romance him and he's more interested in the plans he has for her career.
Later, she seduces him and shows she's in control of her destiny and knows what she's doing. She finds herself falling for the handsome bisexual assistant to the model's manager and discovers true friends are life's greatest pleasures.
Boarding doesn't focus on celebrities and glamour in the fashion industry. Instead, it looks closely at a young woman's pursuit of her dreams and sexual expressions and stepping into an adventure like boarding a plane to an unknown destination.
In the excerpt below, Jessie and her boyfriend Raymond are in separate cities and he asked her to use a webcam for a little fun. However, he doesn’t like the fact she spent money on a sex toy during a visit to London.

I will send the first 3 chapters of Boarding to any reader who comments below with an email address.
Excerpt
Jessie arranged the pillows so she could lean back on them. Her legs dangled over the edge of the mattress and she ran the crystal toy the length of her body and then spread her legs wide. "Can you see?"
"Yeah. You're so lovely." He gritted his teeth.
She ran the curved tip over the few tiny hairs on her mons and then pressed once on her clit. Whoever crafted the product was a genius. There was an unusual balance to it, so even though it had no batteries it still felt like it had its own natural movement.
She leaned back on one elbow and raised the point with the other hand. "I got this in London."
"London?"
"Yeah." Jessie moved the tip along the lips of her labia.
"Why?" Raymond sounded shocked and incredulous.
"Huh?" Jessie did a double take.
"Why'd you buy it?"
Jessie inserted the tip but just like a balloon bursting with the prick of a pin, the molten lust flowing in the air instantly cooled. She reclined and pulled it out. "What do you mean 'why did I buy it'?"
"Was it expensive?" He was awakened from his sensuous daze. "Cash or credit? You told me there are specials online all the time."
Perhaps Raymond was a long, lost relative of Ebenezer Scrooge. "Aw, sweetheart." Jessie collapsed on the pillows and the ceiling seemed to close in on her. She wished Raymond could appreciate the experience of walking into a store and browsing. She had been so hot and so close to striking a fucking orgasm when the fire department from the Kingdom of Pure Pragmatism arrived in time to completely douse her. "Why the hell would you care?" She couldn't help raising her voice.
"Now, Jessie—"
"It's my money, goddamn it."
"Of course it is. And you've mentioned your concerns about not having enough."
Ugh, I sound like a child. Swearing from anger was distasteful, especially when lying naked on silk sheets in a five-star hotel overlooking Central Park. Her long-term career options weighed on her more than spending habits. He couldn't hear that.
Raymond had such an ability to inflame her passion when he wanted. He knew how to apply tiny quick kisses and lather her in luxurious strokes with his tongue and his hands. But the past several months after his tech firm launched, his playfulness had grown dim like the diminishing wick of a candle. Now he huffed, puffed, and extinguished the flame.

Doin' the DIRTY in Romance Novels Today
I have to decided to talk about sex today.
(I actually talk about sex most days. ;) I'm a creep I know.)

But on a serious level--Sex is a staple in most romance novels these days. Especially since Erotica has become extremely popular in the last couple of years. Not to mention to Fifty Shades craze that brought BDSM into the hot popularity mixtures.

Here's how I feel about sex in books today.

Haha, okay, so I'm being creepy again...but really, I like to read books that have sex in them. (Of course I also enjoy writing them too :)) I like books that embrace the sexuality of its characters. I believe it is more realistic, because that's what people do in real life. Of course this isn't to say that I only read contemporary. I have particular love for a good contemporary erotic romance, but I also love paranormal books where there IS sex. I don't care for books where the main characters do the dirty right away (in most cases). I like it when everyone is damaged and broken and they have to work really fucking hard to make it work. (Pardon my inappropriateness, lol) I also dislike people who have sex in dreams that end up being real (AKA they traveled to some sort of weird dream realm outside of their knowledge and had actual sex they thought wasn't real.)
They wake and are all like..."Woah, that was the best sex I've ever had...too bad it WASN'T real."
So, anywho...that's how I feel. What's a girl to do with all these emotions besides write a kinky blog post? ;)
SO, what I want to know...is how you feel about it. That's right, I want your opinion on sex in books today. What do you like? What do you not like? What is a must-have when it comes to reading a good romance for you? I'm dying to know.

Excerpt:
The hot water felt good on Ella's aching body. As she stood under the flow of water, all the events of the evening began to replay through her mind. She scrubbed herself harder and harder, trying to make herself feel clean and safe. All that had happened became too much, and she started to sob uncontrollably. Ella slid down the side of the shower, wrapped her arms around her legs, and just cried and cried.
There was a knock on the door. Mel called out, "Ella, are you ok? Can you answer me? Is there anything I can do to help?"
Ella tried to answer, but all that came out was some sort of wounded yelp, more of a cry of pain than a coherent answer. Apparently that response caused concern, for Mel opened the door, rushed in, and had the shower open so quickly that Ella could not even think about modesty.
Mel, still clad in jeans and tank top, crawled into the shower to examine what was wrong. When he could find no physical cause for her state, he simply sat down and pulled Ella to him, holding her and comforting her for a long time.
Gradually, Ella began to calm down, to let go of the horror she felt and she became more aware of her present situation. Despite all that she had been though tonight, she felt her body respond to the closeness of Mel. His clothes were soaked and clung to every contour of his body. He held her on his lap and still stroked her back in a calming motion. She looked up into his chocolate eyes, which, realizing the change that was occurring in her mood, began to darken even more in reaction.
Not able to take her gaze off his eyes, Ella rubbed her hands down his chest, down his wet clothes, and mumbled, "Your clothes are soaked through. That must not be very comfortable, perhaps we should get you out of them."

Review: Broken by Megan Hart
It's 1am and I'm writing a review. Not because I'm bored, but because I couldn't wait until morning to share how I feel about this book. Seriously.
Broken by Megan Hart
This month my name is Mary. My name is different every month—Brandy, Honey, Amy…sometimes Joe doesn't even bother to ask—but he never fails to arouse me with his body, his mouth, his touch, no matter what I'm called or where he picks me up. The sex is always amazing, always leaves me itching for more in those long weeks until I see him again. My real name is Sadie, and once a month over lunch Joe tells me about his latest conquest. But what Joe doesn't know is that, in my mind, I'm the star of every X-rated one-night stand he has revealed to me, or that I'm practically obsessed with our imaginary sex life. I know it's wrong. I know my husband wouldn't understand. But I can't stop. Not yet.
My Review:I would like to start off my review with this gif.
This is exactly what my face looked while reading Broken. (Yes, I wore this ridiculous O face for more than twenty-four hours. The people at the grocery store looked at me funny.) I purchased the book because I thought the blurb sounded awesome. Like, super awesome. But the book...it ended up being so much more than I could ever even begin to explain. That sounds corny as hell, like a first date that won't have a second... but seriously. Broken is AMAZING. I previously read Dirty by Megan Hart. I liked the book, BUT I didn't love it. This book is on a totally different wavelength. I'm not kidding. 8% in my mind was blown. Literally splattered on the wall.
(Yes, I seriously just got that graphic).
Megan Hart does something with her characters that I can't even begin to describe. The detailed sexual encounters that Joe has from the POV from all different women is off the chain and completely genius. She makes you love the characters. Especially Adam. I spent most of the book in turmoil, because I loved Adam's character.
Even though there were times when I didn't want to love him and I wanted to love Joe. Hart does a spectacular job of making you feel the same emotions that Sadie feels throughout the book. This read is raw, full of emotion, and so real there were times I could taste it. I cried. I laughed. I loved. Hats off to Megan Hart.
This book deserves more than five stars.
I purchased this book on Amazon.
