Human ascension is not found by emphatically entering into the pain of another, but from the aspiration that walks us out of the pain, out of the cave, and into the stars.

Aspiration not only defines us as ascendant beings’, existing just above the eastern horizon, but aspiration is also hardwired into us to be without hesitation or reluctance, recognized.

The dreams we dare dream for our lives are mostly influenced by where we start out in life, but aspiration has always been the thread holding us in common as we stumble through darkness.

How dates got so complicated

Below is a link to an article that attempts to explain it. I bring it up here in this community because some of us write books that are driven by character and the relationships of those characters in their world. I don’t know about you, but writing about present-day, pitching woo, to me is like standing under pitch forks and trying to catch them as they fall out of a blue Siberian sky.

For example, National Date Night is this Saturday. It's an occasion that poses more definitional issues than you might suspect. Glamour, in a recent poll, found that 73 percent of women "said they often can't even tell whether they've been on a date or not" and 19 percent "said they had never been on a real date at all."

After speaking to the experts, the reporter asked those experts what their definition of a date is.  The reporter listed their seven explanations as follows :

1. A date involves two people who are meeting in person
2. A date has no time restriction, and there's no rule that short dates are better than longer dates
3. Someone paying for the date usually signifies that you are on a date
4. Don't expect dates to be elegant anymore
5. You can take your hookup on dates
6.  Some people think hookups are dates
7.  If you're unsure, just ask: "Is this a date?" (the nuclear option)

So, my confusion, and the many writing attempts to approach the present day dating relationship . Maybe, I’m just spinning my wheels in a deepening trench and should not pay attention to the modern day dating conundrum.

Would you or would you not try to depict today’s dating reality into your book if it takes place in the present-day?

Warning dorky video~
Approach with caution~

Libraries vs. Bookstores

Who do you find to have more of a bias against self-published books? Or, as I like to say, who seems to still have a hair across their ass when it comes to self-published books?

I find libraries to be more over biased.

I offer up the article at The Digital Reader as “exhibit A”., OverDrive Carries Self-Published eBooks, but Don’t Worry – They’re in a Ghetto

As the snow flies~
On a cold and gray Chicago mornin'~
A poor little baby self-published book is born~
In the ghetto~
And his mama cries~

What do you think or have found?  Who do you find to be more biased against self-published books, libraries or bookstores?

When OverDrive and Smashwords announced a deal last month which made hundreds of thousands of self-published available to public libraries, I was thrilled. Besides the potential increase in revenues and ebook sales, indie authors were gaining access to a whole new market with opportunities to find new readers. Unfortunately, the deal between Smashwords and Overdrive …

The sage of independence, good timing, and luck of all things written says, go west big publishing, not to Missouri, and not too far west. Go to the corn fields of Iowa. “It would be a great place for a big publisher to relocate.”

He states, “The only way to finance the changes needed is to drastically cut costs. The best way to do this is to move out of Manhattan, but no publisher wants to take that hit in its perceived respectability (or give up the awesomeness of living in New York).”

I’m too much of an idea guy to throw his idea under the bus or joke around with it in this post. But if we are not going to see the five big publishers go to the devil and the deep blue sea, what about of all places, Iowa?

It is far too easy to blame people for what are really problems with systems. You see this fallacy everywhere, and it leads to unnecessary heartache and

Now, Where Are We Going to Get As Good An Example of Mass Lying?
Gosh Darn You, Colorad-a!

Now that the lies that most of us always knew were lies around marijuana are finally being exposed one by one by the self-evident facts of its legalization, what we have always knew would happen is indeed happening in Colorado. I have one tiny little question…

Where are we going to find as good an example that asks, what else are they lying about?

What If Hachette (Big Time Publisher) Gave A War and Nobody Came or Even Gave A Damn

What If Hachette (Big Time Publisher) Gave A War and Nobody Came or Even Gave A Damn

So, let me praise my fellow writers here in this community for not given a rat’s ass about this alleged "war" between Amazon and Hachette.

We know the future of ideas can not be drowned by the big and powerful, but faint of heart. Self-publishing is neither extremist nor restraining. Self-publishing is alive and doing what it is supposed to do, democratizing publishing. The risks are an inescapable part of self-publishing just as they are for traditional publishing and for all consumers who are vetting the street before they cross it.

The readers vetting and decision making process might be deeply flawed, but every writer can submit a manuscript. Despite the nominal risk, democratization of publishing produces a similar democratization for the reader by making literary culture more open.

Anyone agree or disagree?
